Top Gear 20 worst cars ever.

I'd have put number 19 a lot closer to the top, but judging by the number of TG's top 20 I suspect we have a mole in our depths.

Come out, Jeremy, wherever you are...

Bloody hell, they can't even get facts about their own programme correct!

It says "There was a moment on the old TopGear telly where Jeremy refused to even drive it because it was so dull". He did drive it; he just refused to say a single word.

Fuck that, I'm only up to the 7th and feel suicidal already

LOL. Though to get into pedantry, you can hardly call a 1.8-litre K-series underpowered. A K-series is probably better performance wise than the equivalent Zetec or BMW twink, hence why they ended up in Lotii. And they sound ACE too, spesh in MG TF's. Though OBVIOUSLY you will end up in a cloud of HGF fail a mile down the road.

Is it me, or are there only 19 in that top 20?The first slide being the title page.

I believe number 6 is the Ferrari 348. I can understand that.

Yeah, the 'underpowered K series' comment really is daft. Even in 1.4 form, it's far from underpowered. 100+bhp from a 1.4 was pretty nifty for the mid-Nineties.Generally though, I'm relieved that the list is shit rather than shite.

The Dodge Nitro maybe shit in every way possible, but I actually love the way it looks. Call me mad, but I really do.

Mrs_Pog spotted a Rhodius the other day, she tries to explain it to me as a 'really fat focus with a loft conversion', and I instantly knew what she meant.:lol:

Only a handful of these cars register on my radar at all.

I'm afraid I'm in the same predicament.

I don't think it looks bad at all. Here's a lovely video on a Polish(?) Youtube of a guy just pressing bits of Nitro trim. Horrific.

Surely they all register, or you not a car enthusiast?

I think they mean most of the choices aren't especially hateful or likeable, just 'meh'.

Regarding fatty's comments about Vectras that sort of journalism does my head in.'They hardly sold any because we said they were shit'. Now, whilst they didn't set any huge records they certainly shifted a few so to me it's like the kind of bollocks you read in the gutter press where The Sun say they were responsible for Labour getting to power, or the Mail say they were responsible for bringing certain laws in or whatever, etc. That sort of thing is what spoils TG for me. If they think something is crap then fair enough, but it's the sort of 'jolly public schoolboy' destroying things and pretty much snubbing low rent cars off that does my bonce in.

My thoughts exactly Cavette.as fer the actual list, I was pleasantly surprised, thought it would be the typical Marina/SD1/allegro/Datsun cherry bullshit. I actually agree with a lot of those choices. Except the Corolla, that was just stupid. Oh what a terrible job they did of showing the rest of the world how to make a cheap, practical, reliable, attractive saloon :roll:they were right on the money about the Cayenne though

I really don't think Vectras are shit. I went from a '97 Mondeo to a '99 Vectra and it was a whole world better in terms of handling, build quality, comfort, toys...I'm never going to pretend they're great cars, they're merely nicely average at what they do. They'll be shite one day, I'm sure at some point there was a BBS discussion board about how crap the Mk2 Cavalier was and now look how we all fap when we see a beige base model :)

i had a vectra break for few weeks, although a dull car was very competent in its day to day duties..

It's not the fact he had a bash at Vectras, that's his call, but his dismissal of them outright without seeming to even test them properly and the general 'badge snobbery' of T.G is annoying at times.Surprised to not see the usual 'Allegro/Marina/Lada' bollocks crudely typed out by some half witted lazy bastard journo, but still a pretty poor effort non-the-less.

I don't think the TVR Cerbera deserved to be there, but the rest I have no problem with. The Corolla and Vectra would be in my list of top 5 miserable motors.

I have no arguments about a Corolla being reliable and cheap. But, I can't agree about it being attractive. Plus, I understand why it is in the worst cars list ever. It is as dull as dishwater. A massive selling car does not need to be dull to drive and dull to look at. Mk 1 Focus for example.

Thing is with the Corolla though, it's a nameplate across a ridiculous amount of generations, models and trim specifications. Whilst first thoughts might be some dullard 1.6-spec late 90s model, the fact remains that there has been a hell of a lot of exciting kit with a Corolla badge lobbed on so to say they're all boring is almost as sweeping a statement as "all Fords are rubbish".

I have a Corolla and while i wouldn't consider it too be overly exciting its not unattractive, its more inoffensive.

I have to say though the engine and gearbox are a delight, the 1.4l VVTI is a nice car to drive. I just wish the handling was better, it seems to hate any road surface that can be described as moist

Surley there are worse cars out there than some of those choices. Vectras and Corollas must be bad cars, they hardly sold any of those twat boxes :x Hang on... wheres the Marina ?! I thought the whole point of Topgear was to make cheap shots at Marinas. Maybe the Rover 45 is the new hate mobile for them ?

Posted

I was a bit surprised the Marina didn't make it too, especially considering it's one of those cars that actually does unquestionably qualify for a list like this.
