Daimler Ferret

My wife’s boss has just acquired this delightful vehicle, it’s been in storage for 30 odd years and doesn’t currently run but I’m sure it won’t take much to get it up and running! It has a straight 6 Petrol engine which I assume is a Daimler unit and the overall condition of the vehicle is excellent, BS6 the younger approves and hopes to have a drive when it’s running….

A friend had one of those and the earlier Dingo, I thought the Ferret had a Rolls Royce engine.

Nice Ferret, I think the engine will be a version of the Rolls Royce B, I think it was a military standard in the 50s and 60s.

There's one under a tin hut just down the road from me, doesn't look as well as that one though!

My Mum's old BF (Father No.2) commandeered one of those in Belfast in 1969ish with The Blues and Royals....he hung a peace sign flag on it and drove it around..until his nose was broken by his commanding officer...I had his baton and riot shield as a kid...

The old 4 ton Ferrari as we used to refer to them.

I've not got the best associated memories of them, lost a pal in the Army, when he was decapitated after it rolled...

Yep, RR B60/61; inlet over exhaust, massively heavy, fuel hog.

@lesapandre might like to consider one of these as a ULEZ chariot what with it’s compact dimensions*,  pre-selector gearbox and immunity to parking scrapes.

**compared to an Austin A125

It'd be nice to see one parked up next to a Stalwart at a gig somewhere...

Quite hard to drive safely on or off road as the visibility is completely rubbish even with the hatch open, needs to be done with a vehicle director looking out the top like Michael Caine in A Bridge Too Far.
