THE GUBBERMINT ALWAYS KNOWS BEST

I think you mean Harvest Gold, but I'm not sure from the photos that it is.

I am prepared to stand corrected on this.

My old man had a Maxi that the dealer spent eons telling him was XXXXXX Gold.

Turned out it was Tundra - FFS, that's green not yellow.

Weary of all this, I started my motoring whatsit with a white Chevette, which was white.

Thanks barefoot, it's Limeflower though ;)

That is bootifool! me no care what the colour is called - it's fakkin lovely, like some sort of sweet scrummy custard made by a big titted farmer's wife type in Cornwall :)

Presuming it's as described in the ad, I shall have a new car by this time tomorrow :D

Well the seller in question actually put some effort into his advert and can construct a sentence in English, which is always a good sign

I need the CX gone. Pronto. There's two steely lumps of temptation on Retro-Rides at the moment - a Honda Prelude with 4-wheel steering as a project for £200 that needs putting back together (and paint, but that can be done with a roller) or a Fiat Coupe 20v for £600. Someone, please buy the CX! The heater works today* and everything!

*Cannot promise that the heater will work when you actually require it, but it does have TWO new wiper blades!

Is it time to just lower the CX to real give-away money? Certainly not getting many sniffs at £700**. Have just retaxed it as well.

** Apart from some aggresive Dutch bloke who will only buy it for £550 if I guarantee that the body is completely sound and needs no welding. Fuck off and find another £1000 you cheeky tulip lover! (sorry Michiel...)

I think you should go for LJK Setright's favourite.

Whatever the colour is, that CRABZ IS GR8

Engine management light back on in the Volvo S80. The 740 just keeps on going in its soothingly comfortable way. 400 mile trip coming up next weekend, if it had cruise control I could sleep in it.

I have just got back from rescuing my mates Audi A6... got a call from him on monday saying it started squeeling when he started it up, then a load of smoke poured out the wheelarches! Googled water pump on the 1.8T and he was either going to be lucky and it was an external pump one, or mega unlucky and it's cambelt driven and dead... it was the external one, which i've just flushed through and refilled with antifreeze, and lobbed a new belt on. Despite what the internet says, you can fit the water pump belt without removing anything! Took it for a test drive, all sorted, no leaks, a lucky escape i reckon!

Well, looks like I'll be on my feet/the bus again in about a weeks time. Told my mum to take the Micra up with her to her work, she is based in North Midlands. Plus I'm personally getting fed up with complete twats on the roads who think its ok to try and run into a Micra.

Hopefully, I might eventually actually get around to doing something with my G-reg Sterling, unless something/someone somewhere decides to snatch the money I have coming.

Been offered a place for my dead E-reg Sterling, only problems I have are; 1) getting it there, 2) I only have until Wednesday next week to get it there, otherwise I'll have to wait until sometime in January. I dont know anyone Midlands-based who has a powerful enough car to tow it to Worcester and I dont have much money/time to play around with to hire a towtruck/flatbed + driver. I'm with one of these breakdown companies so might try my luck with them.

Actually got off my arse and did shite related things today after major mojo lossage.

Stripped Vespa wheel, removed tube, inflated to find cause of puncture and found it was the seat of the valve ripping away from the tube. Cheap shit Chinese inner tubes=fail. Luckily I got a new Michelin tube not so long back so checked tyre over and fitted it. Thanks to the piss easy split rim arrangement it was a ten minute job and it's now (properly) secured under the nearside panel where it belongs. Sprayed the spare panel I bought, it was rough as hell so I'd lobbed some filler in and gave it a rough once over with rattle cans. Far from perfect but loads better and need it as a temp replacement as one of the lugs off the original (mint) panel has snapped off.

Had a go at starting the Merc (again!) after bridging two pins on the fuel pump relay (again) but no joy. Trip to the scrappy I think and see if they have one. Plans to flog it to bloke who wants to strip and export it on hold as he's not got back to me again! If I get it running permanently I'll either eBaY or keep it.

Got some of the (broken) trim from the Passat, last owner was cackhanded, and removed the stupid turbo gauge (guage?) and broken vents. Plan is to get the bits tomorrow at the scrappy.

Posted

Partial result at the scrappy: Got the trim bits for the Pisshat and a couple of other bits (tenner the lot!) plus both rear light units for the Merc for a tenner a side. Just need to source the door mirror switch for the Pisser now.

Oh, got it booked in tomorrow to have the turbo problem sorted. N75 valve (or something like that) think he said fifty quid all in inc. fitting.

Merc heading for eBay and probable export, drew a blank at finding a fuel pump relay for it locally.

...and not be able to get back into garage due to owner's stupidity in putting alloy wheels bolts in instead of the correct steels ones so car wouldn't go backwards.

*I bet David Bailey is shitting himself.

Why on earth are you selling this lovely car for scrap/export and driving around in some horrible VW automotive hair-shirt??

Does not compute.

Posted

Because I need the garage back and the VW is getting fixed this week then fucked off as soon as possible.

Posted

I agree it would be a real shame to see that go for export for want of a simple fix. Could it not be new daily-driver material? You wouldn't need the lockup for it then.

Did you try the pump relay from WTC's one?

Posted

I wouldn't want to leave it outside tbh. Tried a couple of scrappys for the pump relay today, all 190s seem to have been cleared out long since (ironically for export!) and apparantly the relays are specific for each engine/model.

Posted

Are Merc not able to supply a relay? I've found them to be exceedingly good value parts wise....

BX in failed starter motor change shocker. Stupid car.

CX now on Ebay. Yes, I'm that keen for a sale! Here come the twunts...

New front tyres and tracking = WIN

No more chewing the front tyres or horrible nasty wobbles at anything above 5mph. The passenger side was so badly out that when the tracking bloke went to align them, the laser was bouncing off the rear wheel. Drivers side not much better
