Long time passion - keep saving for my own, but in the meantime run one for a good friend who has several and little time to play.

Here she is a couple of weeks ago at a do at the Gr8 Central Railway, lots of trains which do little for me I'm afraid but a nice weekend out.

I have spent this evening getting the Porsche home :)

It sounds freaking glorious, and I only have 2 drip trays under it so far. GR8! Got the new radiator ordered today, so i'll fit that when it arrives, drain, flush and refill the gearbox, and it's off for an MOT :D

That photo is great scruff. /\ Ignoring the clothes on the people I reckon the Minor must be the newest thing in shot. :D

Ooh! I've always had a bit of a thing for 928s. Looks like a bit of a bargain at that price too, although I can't see them being the easiest thing to fit a new rad to?

Mmm. 928s. Always liked them, never been brave enough to buy one. Broke a couple...

My Astra Sport passed it's MOT so I'm now mobile until something else fails on it. Lovely car, owned 29 months, been on the road for just 6 of them! :D

Thats my thoughts too. Kind of a dream car of mine ever since i got a green Matchbox one as a kid, but I would be worried about the whole world of financial pain I could get myself into. If you are more mechanically capable than me though (as most people are) at least you stand a fighting chance. From looking in the past is it electrical gremlins that are often the death knell of these?

New (ish) boy here with update.

Re; the 928 - I am lead to believe that they hemorrhage money.

I've had a 944S from 47,000 miles to 236,000 miles and it remains pricey

Keep in mind that it cost £24,000 with £12,000 worth of extras in 1987

£440 for a service with belts and pulleys this weekend

I treated it to a new speedometer as well - £75

It had to have its first replacement exhaust last year - 22 years old.

Mine has been maintained by Kirkmans 01332 792086 for the last 15 years

they break Porsche & MX5 so they are good for used parts.

Electrically the 928 is bob on, history is all stamped up, and at £500 i can afford to break it if it does turn to shit!

It starts and moves, but the rad is knackered, new one will be here this week, and the gearbox needs flushing as the cooler popped and mixed the oil..

Worth a pop I reckon :D

Wuvz, the rad is pretty easy, 2 allen bolts and some hoses after removing the fan bracket :)

Another 928 fan here, in fact have just been reading about the convertible cars made.

I hope we get a few running reports from you, will be very interesting reading.

Cheers, Greg.

here are some pics of it in the light earlier then :)

Another 928 fan here, they seem bloody good value for money and must be something of a laugh to drive. Incidentally they must be the most brown of all brown seats in there!

Wow. Truly excellent! I love these too. They're very odd with the slush box. You can drive it like a Maestro auto for most of the time and you really have to extend your right leg to get the power out - it's like the throttle has two modes (very long travel).

928.org tend to be good for these. Lots of people trying to run 'em on something approaching a budget.

Remember how I fixed my battery charger at the weekend? And how I put electricity back into Mrs_Pog's car??

Well it appears to have escaped again. I am freaking captain angrypants now.

I seem to recall when my neighbour had a Galaxy a few years ago that had mysterious disappearing electricity, and cost him an arm and a leg to fix.... Grrrings.

Don't sharalhambraxys have an issue with electric window motors powering all the time due to some iffy microswitch somewhere on the system?

Maybe pull some fuses for EW and CL and see if the electricity stays put.

Tonights efforts.....

Rad is off to my local radiator specialist to see if they can recore it and fit a new gearbox oil cooler to the left side tank. Fingers crossed!

Ye Gods! How many belts has that thing got? I wouldn't say no to one myself, but everything I've ever read about them seems to feature the word 'complicated' a lot. I'm just not that brave. Or talented.

Was a bit bored, so I polished my trims a bit more, then drove to "the office".

I took my Rover for an MOT today, and to my amazement, it passed first time. Not totally drama-free though as it left a load of oil on their MOT bay floor, and boiled up during the emissions test so they got a load of free coolant too.

I bet you'd have had less grief if you'd have kept Pa_Bo11ox's Beta! What a crock.

My old Galaxy did it but thankfully only once. It was down to when I turned the key in the door to the right and held it there as this locks or unlocks the windows as well as the doors.

Might be worth checking you only turn the key just enough to lock the doors or use the 'plipper'.

Or to take that further, it's like looking after her incontinent gran.

In a further news bulletin item, I have spent all day replacing the rusty old brake pipes on Ms_Bol's Mk4 Astra. This is the fuggin least enjoyable job I think i have ever tackled on a car, should have left it to the garage to sort it. Every bloody union was rusted to hell, 90% of retaining clips busted just by looking at then, snapped-off bleed nipples and stripped threads from start to finish.

Whats the plan with the troublesome Rover now Bollox? Big oil leak and boiling coolant sounds like a recurring theme here...

Not really shite, but some of you chaps might know whats going on...

Matts Golf (2004) has gremlins.

Quite a few times we've returned to the car/woken up in the morning to find one of the windows open. I drove it while the Aggro was away and one night went to pick up Matt from work and obv unlocked the car to do so; when he went to get in the doors were locked, and I had to use the key fob rather than the button inside to let him in. Yesterday he got in, I went to put the dog in the boot and it was locked, (Matt didn't believe me, because afterall I am just a girl  ) so he got out, the boot then opened. Sometimes on locking the car with the fob it sounds like it locks and unlocks, but is always locked when we check it.

I read somewhere it might be a problem with damp.

Any ideas? (He doesn't believe me that an Austin Princess is the only remedy).

...Just like a Golf..

My neighbour had a 2004ish Golf and that was a troublesome sack of scrap. Let water in, forever breaking down, electrical probs. Dashboard fell to bits too. He couldn't wait to get rid it.. so much so he let "we buy any car" have it.

Anyway, today I wrenched the rotted Maestro tailgate from its mountings and installed a freshly resprayed mint example. Next time, ill ask a friend to help, phew! (if only I had any friends to start with). Its finally in place, with the tailgates wiring loom fished and prodded down the rear pillar and all connected up and the wiper motor, lock and catch also all installed and adjusted- I'm actually pretty pleased with myself. The old Maestro looks pure class!

The headlining was removed to allow access to the tailgate mountings and is going to be recovered. Its in a right state!

Of course.. I cant find my lead to upload any of the pics... so you'll just have to believe me.

I like my Golf, it seems to be the last of the solid, simply engineered Volkswagens. Alright, it's a bit 'cost reduced' in places, so it's rusty and has faded paint but all the other stuff works well.

The engine, even though it's a dirty non-turbo diesel pulls really well and doesn't use much of its delectable petrol/used vegetable oil mix, especially since I fixed the tank sender. The clutch cable broke off the clutch lever, but that was fixed with a bit of washer.

I've owned one before and thought it was stodgy to drive, this feels a lot livelier. It's no Peugeot, but I managed to coax it into a bit of controlled lift-off oversteer the other morning. [/Troy Queef]

Took the 928 rad to the local radiator menders, yep, he can recore it, but he hasn't got an oil cooler to fix the busted one..

Do I just sod the cooler off? It has an external one too, or do I keep looking for a used radiator, or try a seemingly more common, but 8mm narrower core one from a later 928?
