Fortunately for my colleague, the MD’s mate owns a body shop and has done her a favour and said he’ll repair the Fiesta for £400.

It’s booked in for a timing belt this week, then I’ll do the front discs and pads and then the bodywork will get done. I do hope the daughter has now learned a lesson. She did bring me a box of beer this morning though 🙂

Exciting* end to my day today. Mrs W rang me about 4.20pm, she’d broken down on the A33 between Reading and Basingstoke, bloody great. She described the car began shuddering and shaking, with no power and various lights came on. I set off with a code reader.

The car is a 2014 Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSi DSG with 63000 miles and on arrival it had EML, EPC and traction control lights and running very rough. Code P0301, so misfire cylinder 1.

Plugs replaced 22000 miles ago, so hoping coil pack. Managed to limp it home but it was a real struggle and I upset a lot of people🙄.Got Mrs W to drive mine, she would not have driven the Yeti any further. Can’t understand the traction control light though. I kept the code reader plugged in and cleared codes every minute but was a tortuous journey in a two cylinder car.

Anyone else got any thoughts on the problem? @RoverFolkUs?

I'm also going to say coil packs. VAG engines seem to like them a little too much.

I’d also vote a coil pack. Swap them around and see if the fault moves. If you need a hand I don’t think I’m all that far from you, I’m between the two AWE sites.

Ah, yes. In that case it might be worth fitting a set of leads before fitting a coil.

Yes, could be, good shout. Might have to get both, as need it back on the road quickly. Can’t see the leads onECP or GSF though.

If the eml is on it will put the traction control light on aswell. Many manufacturers do this as soon as the eml goes on they shut down the extras like traction and stability control.

Traction control light will come on with EML so don't worry. TC works by reducing engine power to prevent wheel spin, it will be disabled while the car is in limp mode, hence the warning. 

I'm confused as to what engine it is, there's either the belt driven 1.2 TSI 4 cylinder, earlier ones have a single coil pack and 4x leads, later ones are also belt driven but have individual pencil coils. On a 14 plate it could have either fitted. 

If you have the later type engine then I have a genuine used pencil coil that is good as far as I know, it was a parts darts victim 😂 - match the part number and it's yours if you want it. Otherwise it's in the pile for bin as they are virtually worthless second hand

Or there's the chain driven 1.2 MPI 3 cylinder with individual coil packs, however I don't think a yeti was fitted with those engines, I've only known them in smaller cars like Polos/Fabias/Roomsters etc

Sorry @RoverFolkUs , my mistake. When we bought the car the Skoda dealer told us it was chain driven 3 cylinder. It isn’t! I’ve just changed the coil pack and it’s a 4 cylinder with a belt🤦‍♂️.

Anyway, new coil pack has made no difference.

Hope so, next is to swap leads 1&2 and see if the missfire moves to 2.

I’ve swapped leads 1&2 and it runs much better. Still miss firing obvs but far less pronounced and didn’t through EML light even after several minutes. New leads it is then!

Hopefully, would have tried leads first, if I could have got them for today but I couldn’t. Halfrauds turn out to be cheapest in stock locally, so picking them up tomorrow. GSF & ECP were both Monday and dearer in shock Halfrauds being the cheapest moment but Mrs W needs the car for work Monday.

Made the first steps in getting insurance quotes for the Superb this evening. Only tried “Compare the Market” so far and quotes range from just under £400 to just under £3000! Quite clear who doesn’t want the business. Will try other avenues too. This assuming our current insurers will issue a letter confirming no fault claims for the last 22 years they’ve insured my company cars for.

Picked up the new HT leads for the Yeti after work but with all the stripping out and dismantling of things at work at the moment, my back was too weak and painful to swap these this evening, so will do this in the morning.

Please that the comparison sites are valuing the Superb at twice what I’ll be paying for it but still to get more quotes.

Our 21 plate Transit Connect auto was listed on Autotrader today but I think the boss might be being a little optimistic with his pricing. Lovely van though. Our Luton vans are also being listed imminently. So the Iveco is up for grabs @Cavcraft🙂

Mum and Dad’s house went on the market today. Feels a bit weird to be honest and has upset Mrs W. Progress I suppose.

It was like that when my grandparents house went on. Weird and upsetting, especially when you think back about all the time you spent there with them etc etc. It’s weird thinking about someone else being in there in future.

Definitely good to keep the memories though, but use the house sale as a way of moving on. It’s got to be done unfortunately. I found it best not to go back either after it sells. Let it go and then have the place in your good memories only.

Once you’ve emptied it, leave it and don’t go back. In your mind it’ll probably always be your parents place so seeing other people in it, changing things, redecorating etc etc might well not be the best thing. It’s tempting sometimes when I’m up in Yorkshire visiting family that still live in the area to just nip round to see what it looks like now. But I don’t do it. 
All it’ll do is bring things back. I’d rather remember the place as it was with my grandparents.
