twosmoke300 Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Look what got dropped off this morning . Obviously I wasn’t busy enough so took on another project . Parked next to my crv that needs a flywheel 😂 SiC, Sigmund Fraud, Low Horatio gearbox and 16 others 19
Andyrew Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Yum, cracking car these. Nice to drive with a good kick up the arse if you needed it. i was very tempted by that one as i had one about 10 years ago and wanted to see if it was still as good as i remembered.
HMC Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 A bit different to the 1.6 you had off me 🤣 twosmoke300 1
twosmoke300 Posted September 9, 2021 Author Posted September 9, 2021 The gas analyser says its a massive lean misfire . Co and HC actually really clean but lambda is 1.7 plus and the cat is glowing at idle Air leak somewhere i reckon
phil_lihp Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Glad it arrived in one piece! Good luck getting it sorted, best car I ever owned in a lot of ways.
dave j Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Good to see this one staying in the fold. I would love a mk1 vrs one day, I will have to make do with my mk2 for now!

twosmoke300 Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 Also - it’s broken - of course it is Jamie 1
Jamie Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Is the engine light on? If not I'd be concerned. HillmanImp 1
twosmoke300 Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 Course it is ! Not plucked up the courage to do a global code scan yet tho . But it does need a service item door lock . Jamie 1

twosmoke300 Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 There is a new one in the boot so I guess it does need one 😂 “Just wear and tear mate - all cars need em” ermm not decent ones beko1987 and Jamie 2
bezzabsa Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 if cats glowing - then its blocked aint it!!!!!
twosmoke300 Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 It’s roughly the same temp front n rear and plenty exhaust pressure out back . Did notice when moving it in the yard today that the brake pedal was very hard so I’m putting money on a vac leak but fuck me dead these 1.8t motors have hundreds of vac pipes . HMC 1
Isaac Hunt Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Excellent initial diagnosis. Hadn't someone had a crack at trying to find a vacuum leak in this ? Maybe they CBA to spend any time on it twosmoke300 1
Jamie Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 It's in the right hands to get sorted now at least 👍 HMC and twosmoke300 2
twosmoke300 Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 It’s not an easy one - the usual spray brake cleaner around trick hasn’t identified the culprit . I’m wondering if it’s one of the many one way valves or solenoid valves on the inlet system that’s failed rather than a leak to external air .

My mates got one its proved invaluable for vaccum leaks Spurious 1
twosmoke300 Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 Yeh . That was my next step when I get 5mins to look at it . Although the PO’s garage had already done this and replaced several parts on the back of the magic smoke escaping . Jamie 1
Jamie Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Understandable they threw the towel in. I hate shit like that twosmoke300 1
twosmoke300 Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 Part of the reason I bought it was that I like a challenge and a chance to learn about a certain engine etc . Jamie, dollywobbler and Royale80 3
phil_lihp Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 The window regulator is for the driver's front because I'd already replaced the driver's rear and the front was making funny noises so I thought I'd be prepared, they're not expensive. As it was, it never did stop working so it's just a spare! twosmoke300 1
Spurious Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 Isn't it quite common for people to be fiddling with the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system on these thinking it'll somehow improve performance? Like you said there's bloody loads of pipework in these engines. Maybe someone had a go and didn't do a right job.
Spurious Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 I think the first generation VRS looks far sharper than the next one too. Better looking car. Looking forward to see more of it.
