Yum, cracking car these. Nice to drive with a good kick up the arse if you needed it.  i was very tempted by that one as i had one about 10 years ago and wanted to see if it was still as good as i remembered.

The gas analyser says its a massive lean misfire . Co and HC actually really clean but lambda is 1.7 plus and the cat is glowing at idle

Air leak somewhere i reckon

Glad it arrived in one piece!  Good luck getting it sorted, best car I ever owned in a lot of ways.

Good to see this one staying in the fold. I would love a mk1 vrs one day, I will have to make do with my mk2 for now!

Course it is ! Not plucked up the courage to do a global code scan yet tho .
But it does need a service item door lock .

It’s roughly the same temp front n rear and plenty exhaust pressure out back . Did notice when moving it in the yard today that the brake pedal was very hard so I’m putting money on a vac leak but fuck me dead these 1.8t motors have hundreds of vac pipes .

Excellent initial diagnosis.

Hadn't someone had a crack at trying to find a vacuum leak in this ?

Maybe they CBA to spend any time on it

It’s not an easy one - the usual spray brake cleaner around trick hasn’t identified the culprit . I’m wondering if it’s one of the many one way valves or solenoid valves on the inlet system that’s failed rather than a leak to external air .

Have you got access to one of those smoke machines? My mates got one its proved invaluable for vaccum leaks

Yeh . That was my next step when I get 5mins to look at it . Although the PO’s garage had already done this and replaced several parts on the back of the magic smoke escaping .

Part of the reason I bought it was that I like a challenge and a chance to learn about a certain engine etc .

The window regulator is for the driver's front because I'd already replaced the driver's rear and the front was making funny noises so I thought I'd be prepared, they're not expensive.  As it was, it never did stop working so it's just a spare!

Isn't it quite common for people to be fiddling with the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system on these thinking it'll somehow improve performance? Like you said there's bloody loads of pipework in these engines. Maybe someone had a go and didn't do a right job.

I think the first generation VRS looks far sharper than the next one too. Better looking car. Looking forward to see more of it.
