West Midlands Police have been in touch asking if any readers can help trace a Mk3 Cortina stolen from the Birmingham area earlier this month.

“NOV 361M was stolen in the Winson Green area of Birmingham, overnight between the 4th and 5th of January 2010,†says PC Bill Langford of the West Midlands Police. “The owner of this beautiful example of a Mk3 Cortina is a lovely gent, and is the original owner - he bought it as a brand new vehicle in 1973. He is obviously very upset at having the vehicle stolen, as he has treasured the vehicle from new.â€Â

If anyone has any positive information that may assist with identifying the offender/s or locating this Cortina please contact PC 2026 Bill Langford at Summerfield Police Station, Winson Green on 0845 1135000. Alternatively you can email him at [email protected].

Sad :(Thiefing knuts !- Dont know if this is allowed on this forum but "BUMP" to keep the thread alive and spread awareness !

Thats a shame, it looks an awful lot like the LoM car. Whats the market for a stolen MK3 Cortina now anyway?

Posted

Dunno, I hope to god it's not just pikies who have had it squashed. I would be suicidal if that happened to mine.

Bastards. Not cool.BUMP

Its good to see the police actually take an interest in this - they usually aren't bothered. Its not the kind of car you can hide easily and hope there's a happy outcome.

I think I'd be homicidal.

you need the V5 these days to squash a complete car unless they take a disc cutter to it.I too would be gutted if it happened to me

Unusual theft! Scrap metal price wasn't that high last time I looked and I'm told MK3 Cortinas are useless at banger racing (which neatly prevents that "can of worms" being opened).Probably just some joyrider scumbag.

Yes officially you need the V5 but it doesn't stop some people. My friend had a sorned Citroen GSA stolen from a driveway outside a lockup last year. It was taken to a local scrapyard who weighed it in without any docs whatsoever. Chock full of spare parts too  Mark.

doesnt the scrappy have to pay for that now too...for taking it in and crushing it??

Nightmare. Poor sod, that's totally irreplaceable. Somehow doubt he'll ever see it again, except maybe as a burnt out shell. BASTARDS!! I'd be both suicidal AND homicidal- trouble is, to be homicidal, you need a target!

IIRc they are very popular with banger racers ? - the mk4/5 certainly are and the Mk3 is the same bodystructure.Thats a real shame, I think I have seen this car around Birmingham. Stolen for bangering or breaking, I guess :(
Posted

To be fair some drunken idiots probably saw it and thought 'ere, thats that car off the telly with that copper' and nicked it.

Posted

They were popular with racers but only beacuse there was so many of them about. I hope its found, or they atleast find out whats happened to it. Winson green is a serious shithole and it could be any number of people who had it, from joyriders, to scrap dealers to banger racers.

Yep had a Mk2 luton taken off a car park, taken directly to a local frag yard. I couldn't see her, just as well I wasn't armed....

Cnuts.Sorry to say the mk3 is a very good banger & comes with running gear commonly used in other cars (x-flow / pinto)There was also a MK2 granny pinched in west midlands a couple of weeks ago - seems to me like there is a bad egg TWOC'ing old Fords - hope the police catch them - or better still, a vigilante hit squad catch them!

Yep they are highly rated bangers, and for my money, I reckon the oval is where the theives will be looking to take it. Lets hope they catch whoever stole it, chop them up and set them on fire! From what I read on another forum it looks like the police may have a strong lead on it. Fingers crossed

Really grips my shit to hear stories like this, I bet its going on the oval. But I do hope who ever pinched it get their cumuppance, in the showers, or on fire or having their eyes gouged out with broken biros....you get the gist......

there does seem to be alot of classics getting nicked at the moment, i am all for chopping the bastards hands off so said bastard can't pick up any tools or steer the car.:evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil:

Problem is with the t'interweb how can you offload this stuff these days? There must be so many people looking for this car you hold no chance of getting shot of it even in bits, unless you have enough space to dismantle it over a long period of time to avoid raising suspicion? I would think that you would need to sell all the parts through multiple e-bay accounts to avoid drawing attention to yourself. What probably needs to happen is that e-bay should limit the amount of accounts from the same IP address?Hope it turns up.

As I said in the Capri thread, information is coming through, but it's best to contact the police if you know anything, don't post it on a forum.

After a mysterious absence, our milkman turned up in a newish transit milkfloat this morning, due to some fuggin scratters having nicked his old 1970's electric one, taken the batteries out (presumably to weigh in) and burned it out. YEAH CHEERS GUYS, nice of you to deprive this guy of his means of earning a living, so that you can get £100 for some fuggin scrap metal.

WTF did they think he had a milk float for? To intimidate people in traffic?
