Shite supercars

Mirov - based on a fictional Russian supercar which appeared in some film or other. I've seen this at a couple of shows - it looks quite impressive in the flesh.

The Mirov was used in a TV advert for a bank. It was mostly based on a Beetle chassis and something like a McLaren M6 body which was disguised a bit, everything inside was made from hardboard and fibreglass.

I think some bloke bought it years later and put it onto a chassis with proper engine, but it was never a real car, shirely?

Didn't Hardcastle and McCormack have a VW chassied, Corvair powered McClaren like the one above??

*edit*

Google says - Sort of. A Coyote, inspired by a McLaren of some description.

I recall having a discussion with Spottedlaurel of this parish a few years back at a local classic car auction regarding the origins of the rear lights on a Beaufighter that was being offered for sale. We eventually agreed on Lancia Beta Spyder.

Yup.And I bet Lancia were happy for the business, having gone to the expense of producing those lights purely for the Spyder...
Spotter alert: the reason for the shared lights is because the body for the 412 (the predecessor to the Beaufighter) was built by Zagato. So was the Beta Spider - although the Lancia's design is actually by Pininfarina. Naturally Bristol owners all know that particular trick, which is why Spider tail-lamps are ultra-rare and mega-expensive.

How about another DOME product.

Jiotta Caspita

Born in a bubble economy (like all the best seem to be) and using a shit F1 engine (in this case a Subaru flat-12 renamed Motori Moderni)

And a more recent offering

Keating

Saw this in the flesh - astonishingly bad.

Wow that Keating thing looks like a Grade A supercar shite. I'd never even heard of that one. The website is spectacularly vague and waffly!

The goal was perfection…The benchmarks…. the world’s top supercars manufactured in Italy, Germany and the UK. The only outcome contemplated was to succeed.

Haha, that Keating site's brill. I'd quite happily spend loads of money on one of their products. I mean, look at the TKR spec:

Eight cyl in VMidships7L 2000 BHP

That's quite a bold claim... or just a very big mistake

There's a warm place in my heart for the TVR Cerbera

Posted Image

I'd never buy one because the running costs would be ruinous

Agreed on the TVR. I'd love one but would be frightened to death by the impending financial ruination that it would be just waiting to unleash on my bank account.

Lovely car though.

WANT, big time. I love the fact they designed their own engines instead of bolting turbos onto mundane family car engines instead.

You only have to watch that drag race the clot Clarkeson did where the 4.5 Cerberra slaughtered everything including the Porsche, Ferrari & Lambo to see how ridiculously good that V8 is as well.

Certainly not a supercar per se, but I'd have thought one of these would be worthy of mention in here...

Just thought of another Japanese supercar FAIL. The Dome Zero...

Hell's teeth! Horrible yet superb!

Been said in this, but no other shite supercar used Rover* rear lights:

...and a very prominent keyhole, immediately recognisable to a billion Ka, Fiesta, Escort, Sierra, Granada and Transit owners.

Engineered by Ford SVT but built (sub contracted) by Reliant so it'd be rude not to include it here!

I can just imagine the Reliant dudes when the prototype showed up.

"Y'know, that would be perfect if we just lobed off a wheel...."

Didn't they also have trouble shifting them because of a rally accident or something?

Posted

It ran nationally for a couple of seasons IIRC. I'm wondering where all the RallyCross boys find 'em as you always see the odd RS200 but they've been out of production for 20years and they always seem to get wrecked each race ?

Posted

The RS200 was used to better effect in Rallycross anyway, the Group B one had 'only' 300ish bhp, whilst some of the Rallycross ones had over 600.

None come close to the one that was used in IMSA GT though, that had 750 horsepower, from a 2.0 engine! Mad.

I think the fact that there was a kit of the RS200 availible to fit to Maestros also adds to the shiteness.

Posted

Yeh he won championships in them! Such a madman. I cant believe he actually got a race stopped by playing chicken with the cars when he crashed out!

Posted

I remember that ! He ran out in front of someone who had punted him off waving his arms like a madman !

How about the uber rare Argyll GT? Apparently used Triumph 2500 suspension and a variety of engines.

And talking of shared tail lights... Do these beauties not originate from a Datsun 120A FII coupe?

Good GRIEF. @ brammy777: I've seen a video of that, hilarious stuff! The cars are sliding about all over the place! There's also a pretty famous old clip from (I think) a Dakar type race where a Skoda Favorit rally car runs over a fallen competitor's motorcrosser, causing said competitor to chase after Favorit and wing his helmet at the back window. Good stuff.

It was a Lada Samara, maybe GpB ? Driven by Jack Ickx(sp?) IIRC. I can still remember the Car Wars commentary. Car Wars 5 I think it was.

Martin Schanke was a common name in these motorsport shunt videos during the early 90s. :)

Um, if we're going to slag the XJ220 for being a bit 'parts bin,' (don't forget the Citroen CX door mirrors) we can hardly ignore TVR.Think the Tasmin's had Escort rear lights while even the mighty (and really very desirable) Griffith used Vauxhall Cavalier lamps! The Chimaera was altogether classier and used Fiesta Mk3 lamps - but hidden behind smoked covers so they looked exotic.Noble - Mondeo saloon Mk1 rear lamps. Far too orsums for the shite supercars thread though. They're serious machines.

Every part of the Keating's interior is bespokable

Is that even English?

A couple of local efforts:

Sabberton Omen.

I couldn't quite believe my eyes the first time I saw that thing....Sitting in traffic in Wroxham IIRC

Do you know anything about it Wuvvum?

I take it, it's a one off?

Posted

I bloody KNEW that there was a Griffith or similar that used upside down rear lamps off something mundane.

TFFT.
