2003 Citroen C5 estate.....the end

Mine was sluggish so I had the induction system removed and cleaned.   EGR too.  Made a tremendous difference, scared myself leaving work up a steep hill that evening.

Had the same done to the second one but that really was crap when I collected it.  Took it all its time to do 70 and ages to get home that night (Buxton to Washington)  Had the same done and the injectors cleaned and one refurbished.  Much improved but hardly sparkling.

Both crap mpg but that applies to everything I have owned except the Renault 4.

i absolutely, effing, thrashed it today, i mean 4.5k rpm, sport mode n everything

huge brown fog behind me which cleared up after 20 seconds or so

yep, quick again now

had a lovely drive home this evening, gearbox performing well in 1c weather

starts very well too!

yes fuel economy from this isn't the best, computer is pretty much bang on at an average of 42 mpg

550 or so miles before the light comes on, eh i can live with that

This looks lovely, particularly the interior fabric. Just like yours but with the slightly more delicate engine (well the mad shit attached to it anyway!).

I love how used car dealers put them on “low” as they think it will seduce people somehow but they just look broken. Although the guy selling the potato cam Mk. 1 V6 on stilts manages to make it look even worse!

i have seen that, it does look rather nice actually!

basically the same spec too.....albeit i have a couple of little extra's

to be honest, i think mine is worth a grand all day long these days.......and that value is only going to increase

honestly at the moment mine is driving absolutely beautifully!

a 2.2 does scare me a bit, i was very very close to buying one when i was hunting for a C5 but it just had a few issues and had been off the road 5 years

even got some fame on facebook

image.thumb.png.0876cf1eb4687169147011a0daaae902.png

£140 all in, which i thought was fair, completed in 2 hours including a code scan

oh and an engine bay clean

i felt quite bad for leaving it overdue for around 2,000 miles, terrible in fact

but i wanted to see if the gearbox was made to be liveable which so far it seems to be

apparently he didn't even need to jack it up, slight raised part on his driveway with the suspension on high was enough

over 1,000 miles since i got the transmission repaired, it's doing fine actually, really smooth most the time and not put itself in limp mode

spheres are superb still

had an absolutely lovely day with my new girlfriend (yes someone actually likes me and hasn't got annoyed at me for talking about spheres all weekend) driving round county durham to visit tacky terrible christmas fairs, zero issues from the C5

spent a good while explaining to her how the hydropneumatic suspension works and how it's superior in every single way to the suspension in her car, and how it's the best suspension system etc etc

may replace the rear speakers tomorrow morning, and then really i can't think of anything else it really needs

certainly one of the better examples out there

166,666 miles on her now, i've done 16,000 of them

had to drive through some flood water on the way to work yesterday just after the storm

it wasn't too deep, but deep enough

i had to put my suspension up on high, which of course it absolutely fantastic and never gets old

someone pointed at me doing it which was also excellent

this is really proving to be a very enjoyable ownership experience

sitting at traffic lights etc and raising lowering the suspenders on a hydraulic citreon is funny especially watching the faces of people in  the car behind in your mirror 😁

Yes that's great fun, don't hold the foot brake when you do it however.......they don't like that!

Hydraulic citroens are great

Can't copy the quote on the phone easily but I'd not feel bad for being 2k over a service.

Not in the state that cars in. There's a difference between being 2k over a service that was due 20k ago and 2k over from when you did a service yourself and everything looked fine 10k/12 months ago...

I'd replace the rear speakers and do it with pride, you'll soon be at the stage where their the only jobs you've got left to do 😍

Before something new and exciting breaks 😂

i don't like being overdue a service! it had done 8k since the last oil change which is not something i like doing

i can't think of any other jobs left to do, perhaps new wiper blades?

i'd like to get the wheels refurbished but not worth it until the weather improves

even doing excellent cold starts, including at -3 this morning, turned 2 times then straight into life!

No your right, you should never be late 👍

But when it's - 5 outside, and you've done an 8k change for the last 5 changes... Suddenly 2k and waiting for it to be warmer isn't such a showstopper

You've got it to the jfdi (just fucking drive it) stage! Congratulations 🎊🎉 That warm fuzzy feeling of being able to jump in and drive wherever with pretty much zero thought or checks needed.

You've got to leave something broken though... You'll upset the French equilibrium otherwise... Why do you think I haven't probed my non working keyfob locking yet 😂 It runs well with no lights, good brakes, OK non knocking suspension, good tyres, copes with being left for a week then suddenly a 200 mile round trip etc... Don't want to mess with that for something as piffling as remote central locking

When I'd finished buttoning up the undertray and refilled the oil on my first service of the Xsara and realised id not fitted a new filter.... 😂😭🙄

I just waited 5k and did another service! @Talbothad done the oil and filter anyway reasonably prior so it wasn't begging for one when I forgot.

Thing is, realistically you could leave an oil filter on for a lot longer than their normal service life:  A filter (almost any filter) works just as well, if not better, the older it gets.  Right up until it plugs and then you have no oil pressure.  The point of a service interval on the filter is that you change is waaaaaaaaay before you risk plugging it solid, and hence losing oil pressure.  In theory, on a fairly well maintained engine, the oil filter might last 50k, 80k, maybe 100k miles before it actually plugs solid, but the damage that would cause means that it gets changed every 10k miles so that there's zero chance of that happening.

I've fairly often skipped an oil filter change when doing shorter (ie 5k) services, particularly on things like XUD engines which like an oil change every 5k.  I do drain the 300ml of oil out of the filter and let it dribble for as long as possible, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with re-using it for another 5k.  The chances of it blocking in that time are infinitesimally small.

The only filter I've ever plugged was a fuel filter (also on an XUD) as it had been on there for about 100k miles, filtering out all manner of crap that comes through with pump diesel.  That just meant I had less and less power available (from all 92hp down to about 20hp over the course of maybe 25 miles!) so had to wallop a new one in.  Got my money's worth out of that filter.

Fuel filter is the last thing I need to change in mine (and something I want to change for some easy ticking off on something to check for the stutter it does sometimes in low speed-high gear cruising if I keep the throttle still)

Too cold now though, fuck that! It runs fine if I give the throttle a mm when it starts so meh

Mine does that too!

So did my Picasso

Do they all do it?

Would be handy if they did all do that sir 😂 Means it's maybe not an issue! (40/50mph in 5th but at a set speed kicks it off, its almost like I'm lifting off the throttle a fraction, a light stutter that I can feel through the car but the needles on the dash don't bounce about. A micron of either more or less throttle and drop 1mph and it stops. Constant 70/80mph there's nothing, nothing when accelerating, braking, driving with changes of speed etc. Just a busy A- road waft speed sets it off.
