Them were the days, I have heard tell of people adding vehicles to fleet cover hand written cover notes

'To Build Or Not To Build': Delighted to know that fucking QUENT is building his own house, undoutably with our licence fee. Even more delighted to see him rub our noses in with two programmes dedicated to it.

Penny for the guy door to door FFS! That's a new one, some have only just got over trick or treat too. Not us, they don't bother us.....

I was an agent for the CIS from 95 to 98, their car insurance was great...vans insured as private cars - no problem.£5 a week for an additional vehicle on your policy or for an additional driver. Parents insuring cars for their kids cheaply..Modifications never used to be asked about..Oh, and business use was included too...But hey, it was £30 a year more than direct line.. It was annoying when people knocked on your door at 9.30 in the evening or on a sunday afternoon asking for a cover note though!

If there were only 2 insurance companies left in the world and one was Direct Liars I'd happily pay £500 a year more than those thieving, lying, incompetant WANKERS

The scheduled for demolition bathroom on the rear of the house has now shifted up a dampness gear and requires a bucket to catch the rain water. I wouldn’t really care if the drip wasn’t perilously close to the combi boiler I’ve just fixed. I really could do with re-using that.

Assuming building control don’t force me to have one of those nigh on impossible to appease condensing piles of shit

Why would they specify the type of boiler, as long as it was safe? Just how nazi do they get?

I’m waiting to see! Not sure how much of this new build bollocks applies in these situations. Plans are in but not got around to the building regs bit yet. Gas engineer looking into it. Architect reckons should be OK. Fingers crossed...

When replacing a boiler you have to fit a condensing one (where possible) to save the planet. (despite most of them being very difficult/impossible to repair) My sister's new oil fired boiler is a condensing one and went wrong numerous times in the first year, it's much more efficient than the old gravity feed oil Rayburn (but you can't cook on it) and the Rayburn never went wrong in 25 years. Whether relocating an existing boiler is classed as replacement will be down to your "friendly" inspector. Not sure if there are still grants towards new efficient boilers.

Exactly my take on it. I've just fixed the control board for less than a tenner (relays) and I know the boiler's content with the pressure supplying it. Condensers are all well and good but they do have a very definite idea of what pressure they want. Utility companies also have a very definite idea of their obligations in this respect and the two seldom seem to be the same.I suspect grants wouldn't apply to a new build and the quality of both the boilers and installers used under these schemes are questionable at best.

Well sorry it's saving the planet to re use the old boiler. Don't tell me there's a scrappage scheme for boilers.....

Googled it. Apparently the green and manufacturing interests have petitions for boiler scrappage. Jesus I'm off to eat something instead

Bob the dog is not happy and has gone all sweaty, barky and stary eyed. Currently feeding him Pringles while Radio 2 is drowning out the worst of the explosions.

One cat, Clarence, safely inside (& given a bit of my chilli con carne as a treat - he's weird), the other one, Claude, is out somewhere 'enjoying' the fireworks. Its like bloody Sarajevo here. Sarajevo circa 1994, not present day. Obviously.

I am confused. I live in a not great area, shall we say, and I've yet to hear one firework tonight.Either no-one can be arsed or the council / police may have banned them or something. :?

Dont mind the big municipal/council run bonfires/fireworks displays though. Going with my mate and his kids tomorrow.

Ive been told that when my 16 year old Baxi Burmuda back boiler ( forthwith known as BBBB ) packs up ive got to have a combi or a condensing one , this means not only will i have to replumb the whole fugging house as a combi wont go in the same hole as the BBBB , my fires no good , my shower which runs of the hot water provided by the BBBB may not be so good , and where the fugg is the bloody combi going to go , someone said the loft , cant do that , its full of shite , long live my BBBB

You know what, you just reminded me, we have a chimney. No fireplace (it's bricked up) but it's tempting to take a big hammer to it....

Wood burning back boiler , now theres a thought , ive got a proper chimney :idea: , house is ex navy and made of poured concrete and flint , bomb proof and nail proof ( everything needs a raulplug and screw ) and FREEEEEZING COLD the whole time

Ouuuuuuch! I've just gone for a pee after making a chilli con carne (ie chopping chilli's etc). Not the most pleasant feeling 'downstairs' I've ever experienced.

I know your pain my friend. Or I will shortly. Just ate a load of Tacos with far too much chilli powder. I'm dreading the morning bog visit already.

Or assuming that you have a proper chimney above your back boiler, tell them to stuff it and get a wood-burner with a back boiler and go round skips/beaches/woodland and collect free fuel. (The old baxi will probably last forever there's sod all to go wrong, but it might be worth getting hold of a working one, someone has taken out, for spares) I wish that my current house (which is tiny and appears to have been constructed out of Weetabix) would accommodate a woodburner as the amount of burnable wood chucked out around here makes me weep. As it is I tend to keep the thermostat no higher than 15 and put a jumper on.
I've got a redundant BBBB that's going to have to come out at some point, as we DID get everything re-plumbed and a combi put in (result: colder house, despite twice as many rads. Fuck.)Once I have decided what should replace it and it's offensive gas fire shop front, I'll offer it for gratis. It was fully working and only just serviced...

Fireworks on November 5th? May I ask why?

It's the annual festival whereby the British Public commemorates a catholic martyr who was really a patsy for the church who financed his mission/subterfuge.I am not a catholic! I do however despise not being told the exact reason why we should "celebrate" something.
