The grumpy thread

I've been making plans to buy a car, I've had it checked out, made sure I can afford the insurance, looked at train prices and times etc, then I got an unexpected £100 bill through the door so I might have to reconsider.

Pretty annoyed about that, hopefully I can borrow £100 (more) off someone for a couple of months.

Well, you know where I am if you need a loan. I will do all I can to ensure 'Project Buy Another Rubbish Car' goes ahead.

Hmmmm, can I have £500 to get the Yugo on the road? Repayments absolutely, 100% guaranteed within the next decade*

*not a guarantee

If this is the car I think it is, it is 123% weapon's grade Autoshite class & will make Mr Cox a motoring legend.

I've been going to a few boot sales recently, They aren't as good as they used to be, There's lots of Eastern Europeans at the ones i go too, Only last week i saw a Polish plated Luton van pull in the car park next to me, 3 blokes in the front of the van, then one of them opened the back and another 10 got out.

There's seems to be a lot of stuff stolen at them as well which seems pretty sad and i saw a bloke recently hagging over 20p for two electric plugs, "I'll give 10p for both" Unbelievable.

Beans will be spilled once everything's finalised.

Barrett - thanks very much, hopefully I won't need it but I'll let you know if I do.

I'm currently waiting for the seller to get back to me to confirm I can pick it up next Saturday, then I can go ahead and buy the train tickets and insurance etc.

If he hasn't responded to my email by tomorrow evening I'll call him on Tuesday.

When we pick it up I'll try to persuade Barrett to do a thread about it, because he's better at it than me (and I'm mega-lazy obv).

All will be revealed soon - hopefully.

I think black paint dude went about this all wrong.

He could have taken his new-found Autoshite celebrity and run with it.

So, fella. Lets all be nice to each other. Tell us about your car/cars - like Dr. Frasier Crane, "I'm listening".

We're an accepting bunch overall - we've even got a guy who put a roof rack on a perfectly good Mitsubishi in a moment of hipster insanity. He hasn't been tarred and feathered yet as far as I know.

Oh well, he's too good for us. Fuck him and his check shirt.

Last time I try to be nice to some random asshole on the internet.

How surprising the clothing gets mentioned. Although I'm not sure what all this "hipster" stuff means?

Anyway, what was the point me posting up my car? You have already seen it and know about it, there was no point me starting another thread just to rip into me. That may aswell stay on here with all the other grumpy old man stuff

Jeeeez are you still harping on........................look, it is simple, you run an old car, some folk think it is shit, live with it or get something newer and blander, I have been running shite cars for 36 years and have been slagged mercilessly about them and my life style choices because of it, if you can't cope, then get rid of it and become 'normal' or join in and grow a thick skin........you are not unique dude

When have I ever said I'm unique? Never? You lot do like to make things up a lot on here! And saying I'm harping on? Not harping on about anything, was in reply as to why I hadn't posted my car up. purely because it already had been and no point in posting it where its not liked, its kindof asking for more pisstaking really.

The fella over on RR who promised to paypal me some money after getting his mate to collect some slotmags still hasn't paid and is STILL avoiding me.

There's only so much you can put down to people being absent minded  .

Fuxake Trumpster, this is AUTOSHITE.

Nearly all of us all run what the masses would consider to be shite. It is what we do. If we don't actually own said shite, we lust after it, take photos of it, lust after anything half decent, unpopular and more often than not 30 odd years old. Preferably based on something shite from the '50s, if there's a Marina or A55 Estate available someone here more often than not snaffles it. The more obscure / incredibly dull / normal 20 years ago the better, tends to be how it works.

We're not anti-modifications as a rule. Cavcraft quite often will be happy to provide cars with poundland wheel trims or highly inappropriate alloys. Mr Watanabe has a huge collection of obscure aftermarket alloy wheels for things with strange imperial PCDs. We have at least two Reliant Rebel owners, one of which may eventually get around to putting mental Suzuki bits into his one. There are ancient hot rods, yanks, Maseratis, Princesses, Tagoras (nearly all the UK ones...) and Stanzas to name a few of the weird things that people on here own. I myself have a Peugeot 604 that I'd be sorely tempted to chuck a V8 in if I was planning on keeping it. There's a couple of toyed with Polos on here, a few banger racers, journalists, and people from every walk of life imaginable. Even the Welsh are welcome.

Your Triumph generated mirth, bewilderment, scorn and anger on equal levels. It did look like it was a nice old survivor, maybe it was bodged a bit as you say, but it looked rather nice when you got it. Saveable. It didn't look bad with the black bonnet either, I think it's what you've done since that has caused you to be the subject of a mild ribbing for making a nice looking old car look a mess. A fair few of the folks in here would have bought it from you if you'd not fucked with it or stopped at the bonnet. Unfortunately, it's now a lot more work to make it nice. More than I'd bother with, that's for certain. I'm not taking the piss out of you or trying to be cruel, just pointing out how it looks to me. Stomping in here shouting the odds is a waste of time. It's the internet. If we don't like your modifications, someone else might just think it's the bomb, and at the end of the day it is your car. You have it as you wish. This isn't some kind of court you're in, it's a web forum full of people who like shite old cars. You have one, park your arse, stop yer fuckin' whining and tell us more about the other shite you've had. Or find us good shit on eBay.

It's not hard.

Why do car boot sales start so damn early? 6am on a Sunday! Would trade suffer if the public had to wait until, say, 10am to start pawing through almost complete Marshall Cavendish partworks about stitchcraft and new goods the pound shop rejected on quality grounds?

There was a great saturday lunchtime where we used to live, you could get up and make sure the weather was o.k, load up and take some lunch and have a good afternoon. Way better than load up saturday, keep fingers crossed for good weather, get up early only to get turned away as it is full....

Oh, and I have all the electronic games in my loft!

Well, I go and play with my new toy* for a few days and it all kicks off! There's no need, it's only the internet. None of us is real.

Oh and best of luck Trig.

Meanwhile, genuine grump. Whenever you hear someone say they want a Mk1 Granada (and I mean every single time) they will say they want it with a V6 and manual box. Which is exactly what I've got. Not only do I not like the manual, I seriously want to sell. Bonus: it's old enough to be tax-free in the UK too. So how many people are fighting in my driveway, spilling wads of cash all over Paphos? None. OK, I'm asking a lot, but it's a nice one with history and I'm prepared to include shipping to UK. I've said these words all over the internet. From the audience, a resounding wall of silence. :( Until I sell I can't book flights and a container to ship us back. This is incredibly frustrating.

*Facebook; I finally opened an account for myself instead of piggybacking on the wife's.
