Guys, thanks for the support, really. I know I'm not alone, and it's the chance to have a forum to just voice concerns and and stresses that helps keeping me from doing anything too scary. I've done the walk-off thing a couple of times in the past when I've not had the support I need and when I've let my pride get the better of me. Before I know it I'll be in a shitty job and complaining about how it was better when I didn't have a shitty job, I've no doubt!

My sainted Christ, this bloke with the MOMO wheel is hard work. It's taken me three days to establish [two or three word answers each time] that :

1. He's in St Helen's

2. He's off tomorrow

3. He's off tomorrow until 4.

4. He might be available at mid-day tomorrow but hasn't suggested if that's a goer or not. I've suggested a meeting point.

ARGH.

Not been following this, but could he be one of eBays finest perhaps?

PS. Did you ever find a use for the Porsche 944 Teledials? Hope so!

I tried them on the 460, didn't like how they looked and so sold them with some bloody pricey adaptors to a dubber who wanted them for his Golf. Remind me to get you a pint in if we both make it to Shitefest.

Stay the course Gyl - willpower is not something you lack. You managed to make a silk purse out that pig's ear of a BX, it looks superb thanks to your efforts.

There seems to be quite a bit of work in Manchester via agencies and call centres - worth a train ride over one afternoon?

MOMO UPDATE : I suggested a mid-day meet up tomorrow, the guy replies with 'When?'

Fucking brilliant. Still not got my fucking KV6 back. I phoned up the garage man (of whom I recently spent a week helping before my new job) on Monday this week and politly asked him if he could get my car sorted by Thursday before he closes for the Easter weekend. Today I phone up and they've been 'busy' all week and haven't started on my car, I can believe this because this garage takes on far too many jobs than they can actually handle.

This has pissed me off no end, its ruined my easter weekend which I was going to spend getting to know the car and visiting my family. The garage won't be open until Tuesday next week when I go back to work, this means I have to use the Micra to get to work. Its a fucking stupid situation, I own 5 cars and have to resort to using my mums car because my own cars are either not working or far away waiting to be collected.

I have lost faith in this garage, I shall give him until the end of next week to get it sorted, by then I'll take it away, exhaust or no exhaust, I shall also settle my bill as fast as I can and be taking my business elsewhere.

Angyl - Hit as many agencies around the local area as you can, if you manage to get an interview with one, be upfront about what you and what you don't want. Also, if an agency asks you to bring any paying in details, it usually means they have a job ready for you. Good luck mate, it takes time and can try your patience but you will get there.

@Wat: I hadn't put two-and-two together but Manchester isn't actually a bad call as I have a friend in Manchester with a spare room and off road parking he's not using that *might* be able to help out. I cannot brain lately, so that's actually a bloody useful suggestion! Thanks for the compliment about the BX too, you know just exactly how unpleasant a thing it appeared to be better than most!

@LS: Precisely what I am doing. We're nearly at the end of the tax year, I think this is a big reason I'm finding it difficult to find employers who are setting on, come mid-April I'm hoping that changes, particularly with NHS type vacancies.

The twats that employ the company I work for to provide them with Security have disconnected the landline phone in the office, meaning I have to rely on my mobile (And my own minutes) to make check calls and clock on/off... Via the 0845 number we're supposed to use!

Likely fucking chance I'm going to spend £1 per call doing as I'm supposed to, when I'm redundant as of Sunday. Best thing? The area manager has ensured all of his "mates" from his old job have nice, safe, comfy office jobs in the company and are therefore immune from being made redundant. They've been advertising jobs for weeks without telling us, on private websites such as Reed etc etc when all of us poor cunts have been looking at the companies internal job page which has been hopelessly empty.

If anyone thinks about going with Securitas as a company, don't bother. They're a bunch of cunts.

I have no shame in saying this now. Nothing left to sodding well lose.

Looking pretty bleak on the jobs front.

I work for Tesco, as a night driver. Just coming up to my tenth year with them. I have no complaints.

The real reason for this post is Tesco are opening two more distribution centres in May, one in Reading and one in Dagenham.

I believe they are recruiting now, so anyone local to these, or within striking distance, it could be an option.

I think Reading is an ambient centre, and Dagenham is a frozen/fresh/chilled centre.

Hope this is of use to someone.

Also, if there are any big stores near you (Tesco Extras), it could be worth enquiring about 'dotcom' drivers.

Dotcom are the delivery drivers who do the online ordered deliveries (non hgv).

Not only drivers required by the way. There's warehouse staff, site services, office staff like clerks etc.

A whole range of opportunities really.

Lankytim, I'm sure there are some distribution centres up your way, not sure if the transport side is covered by Stobarts though.

If you work directly for Tesco, they definitely don't take the piss.

I have just spent 2+ hours uploading photos to finish my "travelling south" thread . Then I wanted to get some details off another thread, so instead of "another tab" clicked straight on to it. Instant loss of everything  It's half past midnight so f%%% it goodnight!

I applied for a job with a local Tesco and they did take the piss. Job advertised was 40 hours with optional overtime at NMW, warehouse staff. That's a lot of hours, but I was already doing about 40 hours at that point and the chance of some extra overtime was welcome. During the group interview it was revealed that they would expect you to work a mandatory 60 hours a week, opt out of the the 48 hour working week limitation, not pay an increased rate for hours worked over 48 and expect all employees to be fully flexible with times and days so that in some instances you'd be working at least 10 days of 12 hour shifts, one day off, and then back to another 10 days of 12 hour shifts. Additionally, they were expecting staff to work 16 hours, take 8 off and then work another 16 for at least 3 consecutive days per week as required. This situation was expected to be de rigeur "until staffing levels increased" which was anticipated to take at least 4 weeks but as much as 6 months. It was absurd, because once commuting was taken into consideration all you could do, literally, would be wake up, drive to work, do your shift, drive home and go to bed. There was no time allowance for doing things like food shopping or any leisure time and there was zero chance of me signing a contract that would tie me in to a job that contravened just about every working hours rules I was aware of. At least they were up front about it at the interview, but there was absolutely no intimation of the frankly ridiculous working hours at the application stage.

A good friend of mine works @ Tesco HQ (she is responsible for horse labelling or summat). They are E-V-I-L.

In that case, it'd be worth colluding with 3-4 colleagues to simultaneously rescind the opt outs and watch the idiot 'managers' run around like headless chickens.

Reminds me of McDonalds, I opted to do the nights due to the better pay and quieter shifts, but for 4 years my life was work sleep, work sleep, work sleep, saturday off back to work on sunday work sleep, work sleep, work sleep.......

Working time regs or not, I'm sure they can't ask you to have 8hours off then go back to work... I thought it was 13 hours rest between shifts in Scotland and 11 hours between shifts in England/Wales?

tossers :(

I have a Nova front valance panel (unused hadrians jobbie)

got an email about it, told the gadji it was 25 quid.

He was supposed to pick it up on about 3 occasions over the last two weeks, finally culminating to today when he said he would definitely pick it up

about half past midnight, last night, i get a text message "Hi M8" how much was it? 20?

quickly followed by another; is it just the lower valance or the whiole thing  (he had seen photos of the panel last week)

i just ignored these texts

then today about 1pm today I get another text: (direct quote) "just been to bank there and only got 20 spare as been shoppin iv been robbed le me no if thats any good cheers"

i ignored it, and assumed he wasnt coming to pick it up.

so, i get home and theres an email - another begging email, trying to get the panel for 20 quid

I reply that the price is 25 and not to contact me again unless he's coming to pick up the panel and going to pay 25 quid

then i get a text message saying 'keep it then, i was just about to set off and give you 30 for the panel"

fucking mouthbreathers - do they all own vauxhall novas?

The haulage side of tesco is run by Stobarts. I did a stint with them and it was ok. Infact Stobarts treat tesco like shit rather than vice-versa. Stobbies contract whacks tossco with big fines if they hold up lorries by loading/tipping them too slowly. Often they wouldn't realise and I wouldn't mention it to them and let the shit fly...;-)

Oh well, looking at the doom and gloom about jobs on here, I just thought I might be helping.

I was brought up to always work if I could, be it a hard job or not.

Being a Class 1 driver, I'm contracted to work nine and a quarter hours a night. If I don't want to do more, I don't have to.

It's certainly one of the best driving jobs I've had, and I've been at it for 37 years now.

Wow, that was an incredibly productive morning / afternoon.

Bloke with the MOMO is going think I'm a right tosser. Set off at 10.45 to meet him at the East Lancs services so there was absolutely no possibility of running out of time \ going wrong. For reference, I'm more or less at J7 of the M56, so not exactly miles away.

Nob-cheese me short cuts through Lymm, all going well, dick-head Wat gets on the wrong bloody M6 exit (s/b instead of n/b) and gets stuck in the traffic jam from hell because of a three car accident between 16 and 19. Traffic stopped dead, took nearly an hour to fight my way down to 19 from 20 and turn round. On the way up the traffic was queueing right back to J22

Get there for 12.30, bloke nowhere to be seen. Understandable. Wasted fucking ages and came away empty handed after days of messages trying to get this bloke to respond. Diverted down the East Lancs through Salford to get home to avoid the M6 misery. Fucking hell lads, CHOOSE A FUCKING SPEED LIMIT AND STICK TO IT. It must have changed eight or nine times in as many miles.

Sent the bloke a grovelling PM - hopefully trying to salvage the thing. If it comes to it I'll pay his exorbitant postage charges. He says he works weird hours hence the lack of contact.

I'd be really pissed off it was the other way around. Completely my fault. Took fucking ages to get home, too.
