Vauxhall VX4/90 1974

A friend of mine has just aquired a Vauxhall VX4/90 1974, I am told with less than 25K on the clock, the colour is blue but the paint work is a little flat/dull in places, the interior is in very good condition, no MOT or Tax, it does need a little work on the rear arches, as it has not been used for a number of years it would need recommissioning, does anyone know what it might be worth? Big Vauxhalls of the pre-German era are still yet to appreciate. Wouldn't be worth more than a couple of hundred quid on the open market. Even good ones hardly threaten the budget! A shame as I really rate them and the VX4/90 will have a bit of poke too.

Sounds lush. I like the style of those FE Victors, deeply groovy.

Can you obtain some pics for us please? :D There's just something je ne sais quoi about 70s Vauxhalls.Mark.

Very hard to say without pictures and very good idea of any MOT failure points. If it's as good as it sounds I think you'd be looking at about £650 top whack on a very good day.I'd be mightily surprised if only the rear arches want doing to be honest and would suspect close examination will reveal other rusty areas. If it's pretty rough I'm afraid 200 rips top line will be about it's money.

I think these fetch decent money if MOT'd, i duno how much of a project yours is but there is a bit of a following for em, simply because of how FREAKIN KOOL they look. if yours is nice straight, and MOT'd I would have thought four figures is not unachievable

There was a fairly grotty but saveable bronze one in a scrapyard in Heckmondwike this year. On initial appearance it looked like it had been carelessly dumped on the top of a container, but when you looked properly it had been stuck up there very carefully, not just hi-abbed. Disappeared after a couple of months, I reckon it probably went to someone to be restored as they seem to have one or two oddball classics in their yard (well beyond redemption). Hope so as they look great!

/\/\/\ There used to be one parked on the way out of Denby Dale heading towards the A629 that matched this description - let's hope it's survived.

This is the only pic I have of the motor....Tim will probably get more but the car is based miles away from where he lives. I'd have it if I had some spare cash and the room, but I have loads of cars to sort or scrap in the comming year

M'coli, I reckon it will have, that place always seems to have the same old stuff in - I don't think they regularly cube anything. I remember driving past for months and seeing the same knackered Discovery/E-Class in the entrance. Scrap prices were at a peak at the time too, so I think if they were going to weigh it in they would have just done so at the start. I think Vicsmith saved a picture of it on his phone, would be interesting to see if the numberplate turns up again.

What gearbox does this have fitted? IF it has the dog leg 5 speed unit it will be worth a lot more than the 4 speed o/d boxes fitted to most of these.

This ones in Bidford, Warwickshire. Very nice motor, I would like very much to drive a nice example on a 1970's caravan holiday.

Funnily enough I thought I spotted one of these this morning driving round Redditch, bit it was infact a Ventora. They look superb motors.

Daddy Trig had one of these back in 1983, But as you can see, I was only 3 and can't remember it!, Nice looking car though that's improved with age.

"GTM" resgistration would make that a Luton registered car - if it turned out to be ex-press or similar it would help it's cause no doubt....

Lovely. I have a bit of a thing for Holden HQs and, as they really don't show up in the UK, for a while I've fancied that a Vauxhall FE with a Chevy 350 and suitable 'box would make a nice substitute, not to mention being a recipe for a frickin' ace motor (and probably my eventual messy death).

In fact this time last year I got into an interminable drunken argument with somebody who said it was a crap idea. Kids, eh.

ETA Trigger, your Dad's car was nice, lovely Rostyleeee wheels there.

I only know really because when I were a lad, we lived within wazzing distance of Luton, and every car on the street had either "*TM", "*KX" or "*UR" registrations...

I'm surprised the Ital lasted so long!, He sold it in 1985 for a blue B reg Transit 2.0 petrol and If i remember correctly the VX was sold for a blue Y reg Cortina 1.6 Crusader.

:lol: I was just looking at that. He's either going to get out of that car and pull a shooter from his long leather jacket or get out and pull something else entirely different out and capture it all on grainy film

I like these old VXs. Here's a few sad examples of the breed that ended their days at Wilkinson's in North Hykeham. Taken 1997.

Another good registration number site is this link, as it splits them down further into time periods. http://www.richardsonclan.plus.com/history.htm
