Macscrooge’s motoring mayhem - sulking Saab sadness

Recommended Posts

Firstly, thanks to everyone on AS for keeping me entertained this year. You’ll no doubt be delighted to hear that as well as cars which work I have acquired a shiter. Yes indeed, I have become one of you.   Not only that, but with temperatures in single figures and snow forecast it’s an entirely sensible * car for the season.
Anyway, back to the plot.
Poo count - one.

And so to breakfast.  Sausage and mushrooms on soft white rolls.  Oh yes.

Chodspeed good sir!

I pray you also find some more poop roll.

Photo of a dog. Zoe the lurcher enduring hardship with her usual fortitude. She can stay there - I’m off to the seaside!

Let me reassure you. The loo roll was photographed after the performance.

Good luck, any clues!

I’m off to the East coast. The car was built a bit further east still....

MX5?

But further east than the east coast means Volvo or Saab?  Or am I applying logic where non is needed?!

Given the time you're setting off, you're either off to 'ull for the overnight ferry or probably somewhere more exotic like Skegvegas.

Chord speed, and I hope the lights and wipers work.

That would be my guess as sensible* seasonal transport. 🤞

Scarborough actually. In fairness, I’m not posting this ‘live’ - I collected the beast last weekend but didn’t get round to posting anything till now!

Picture of a (distant) horse.  It was a terrible day for photography and contrary to expectations there were no nags obligingly close to the road. Either that or they took fright at the sight of my driver’s diesel Clio.

Behold!  A Saab 9-3 2.0t SE floppytop.  Photographed en route home via petrol station - for a squirt of unleaded and £23 of LPG  - the latter at a very palatable 70p a litre!  Despite the weather it was a pleasant drive back across the Wolds on largely quiet roads.
Having had a couple of Saabs in the past, this journey was a homecoming in more than one way. Despite its antiquity (1999) the Saab was a fine way to travel and seems to still be in possession of most of the 150 horses it had when new. More pics it it ever stops raining.

Always thought that colour really suited the floppy top. Looks really nice. Manual or Auto?

Cosmic Blue with beige leather and proper 3-spoke alloys. It’s an auto - which suits both the car and me!

I must credit @DVee8 for posting the Facebook ad for this car in the eBay tat thread. I’m not on Facebook so I’d never have seen it without that post.
Anyway, here’s the thing at home. Looks very small next to my RX and Management’s Shogun.  On the other hand I’ve seen the Saab next to an MGB GT which made it (the Saab) look enormous!

There is a 'budgie smuggler' joke in there, somewhere....

Nice car/colour/Auto = full of Win ;)

Hey, I’m middle class.  Just deal with it. 🙂

The beast safely stowed in it’s hangar.
Jobs I’ve identified so far:

1. Radio works but doesn’t appear to be connected to the speakers.  Hopefully that’ll be a case of slide out head unit, reconnect loose plug. Well that’s my hope.
2. Exhaust rattles.  From 10 minutes laying on the drive poking at it I think the centre section needs securing - I’ll try to get it attended to this week.
3. Inside wants a bloody good clean.
I should say that I knew about all of these points before money changed hands, as the vendor was very up front about the car.

This was indeed the ad which featured an estate agent’s board in one of the photos!  Thanks again.

Finished work a bit early yesterday and gave the carpet mats a first going over. First I gave them a good hoovering. Or more correctly a Dysoning, using the stiff revolving brush attachment.

then each mat in turn got a blast of this, which I happened to have in stock:

Then it was out with the drill brush. A recently arrived attachment.

This, believe it or not, is midway through the cleaning session.  The pale bits are where the drill had been deployed

I let them dry out overnight and while still grubby, they already look miles better.

Nice car - but I'm more interested in the drill brush cleaning thing - why did I not know of their existence? Trawling ebay to get me some of that.

£5.99 for a set of three different brushes on Amazon:  https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07Y56XWMG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I’m pretty sure I first spotted it on AS!

Little progress to report, though I did at least manage to drive the Saab last week. I’ve not yet managed to get the rattling exhaust looked at but maybe this week....
Management has had a go at the carpet mats which look suitably transformed.
The black spot on the driver’s mat is a fag burn which I might deal with if I can be arsed. And if the sodding rain let’s up I might be able to do some work on the actual car!

No Saab action this week so far (it’s hiding from the rain) but I have at least driven both the Shogun and RX. I’ve also acquired (temporarily) most driveway ballast in the shape of my Father-in Law’s Auris hybrid.  FIL is recovering from illness and is currently too delicate to venture out so I’ve been driving it today.
Those of you expecting a damning account of low power, excessive noise and general crapness - look away now - ‘cos I actually rather like the thing.  While no ball of fire compared with our other cars it trundles along very nicely. It wouldn’t be my conveyance of choice for a fast B-road blast but like other hybrids I’ve driven (and I’ve owned two) it’s pleasantly calm much of the time. It’s a 13 plate with only 32k miles on so it’ll have the shock of its life even  with my currently limited running about!
