I think this was a Buick, but I´m not sure:

Buick Le Sabre if I'm not mistaken, circa 1972. Delicious! 8)

Hi!

Haven't been posting here before, but being a swede I guess it's just proper my first post is about a Volvo. The 142 GT was a factory option available by special order at your Volvo dealer from 1971 and on. Don't know much about it other than that it consisted of those stripes and wheels and some extra instruments, I believe. Should be very rare now and I don't remember ever seeing one over here in Sweden.

Great spots by the way, really like that Mazda 626!

Posted

Good to see your spots on here again Lukas, that 626 is so nice. Keep up the good work.

Fruttan, I have looked through your flickr many times, get those photos on here!

Just a small update from the last few days.

A very rare Skoda 125L from Slovakia. They were all over the place in the mid-90s, we saw many of them driving to Italy from CZ or SK. Now they are almost all gone, you see hardly any in Austria now:

skoda2h.jpg

A british bus, looked like shite:

bus0.jpg

A very early L300, very rare:

l300.jpg

and a cool Buick Roadmaster Station:

A small update from the last weeks, some with a little bit of snow, some without.

A nice Xedos 9, getting rare now:

xedos9.jpg

This Corolla E9 GT-i 16 was very nice too, looked very well cared for:

corollagti.jpg

This might be a favorite for some of you, a Fiat Regatta Weekend:

fiatregattaweekend1.jpg

fiatregattaweekend2.jpg

I saw this BMW Isetta-door in a window of a workshop, not a garage though:

isetta.jpg

Some Renault R4s, one late and one earlier:

r41e.jpg

r42c.jpg

And a Fiat Ritmo:

I hope you like!

That early Renner 4's giving me the horn...

There is quite a huge Fiat-following in Austria, because Austria and Italy were quite close car-wise in the past (Steyr-Fiat models were built in Austria, the Puch 500 was based on the Fiat 500 aso.), so there is a huge Fiat-scene and many Fiat-loving people in Austria. I am not of of them though!

Cinquecento hubcaps look surprisingly good on that Strada.

Are American cars popular over there, Lukas?

Posted

There is an american car scene here, yes. Not big, but you can see quite some Jeeps, Chevys (real ones, not the Daewoo!), Buicks and Caddies on the street. Real classics too, but mostly from the 80s and 90s. I love the Buick Park Avenue, there are some here.

A new update from Vienna! I´ve seen some very interesting cars the last weeks, believe me!

This 2CV was on a trailer, towed by a Citroen C4. The stickers said it took part at the Mille Miglia:

2cvg.jpg

This BMW was driven through the salty slush by a very old man. Looks like he does this for more than 45 years now:

bmw1q.jpg

bmw2sk.jpg

This Cadillac was driven by an old lady:

caddilac.jpg

This Escort was a 1.8 Diesel CL, very rare in Austria. It had plates from Czech:

escorty.jpg

I did not like the colour if this resprayed Opel Kadett C. But it´s nice to see an early one with round headlights again:

kadett.jpg

This Land Rover 109 Rosenbauer was used by a fire brigade a long time ago:

landroverq.jpg

A Kia Opirus, just to upset you all!

opirus.jpg

A nice Oldsmobile (?), don´t know what model. Looked horrible. Rusty and respraied with a rattle-can:

pontiacn.jpg

An early Lada Samara. Very rare car:

samaraz.jpg

But this one´s rarer already. A Ford Scorpio Saloon, pre-facelift. I can´t remember when I saw the last one.

scorpioz.jpg

This one was spectacular! A Hillman Avenger, sold in Austria as "Sunbeam 1500 Deluxe". That´s what the badges said:

sunbeam1.jpg

sunbeam2.jpg

A nice Mercedes-Benz W123 200D in my favorite colour:

w123200d.jpg

And some day last week, I drove from Vienna to an old castle in Lower Austria when I saw this! A house with a lot of wrecks in front of the garage. I wonder what´s there inside the garage. There was a Chevrolet Blazer, a Ford Aerostar, two Jags, a Cadillac Seville, a BMW 6-series, a Ford Estate, a Chevrolet BelAir, a Mustang Mach1, a Peugeot 205 CTI, a VW Beetle and an Autobianchi A112.

Amazing spots! Hillman Avengers must be incredibly rare in Austria!

Posted

I have never seen one in real life before. I have to say I did not even know they existed before I googled "Sunbeam 1500".

Posted

Love the Avenger - looks like a well looked after car :) .

The Grey Olds is a early 1980s 98, one of the last RWD ones.

Posted

Cool stuff Lukas, loving the wheeltrim action on the Stang. :D What's this billboard all about though?

Almost exactly what I was going to say, except to add that the Olds is basically the same shell as the well-known Chevrolet Caprice/Impala, so favoured by American police departments at the time. Not to mention their taxi fleets and movie stunt drivers! Anything a Caprice can do, the 98 can do in velour-lined luxury!

@ BMC Dan: The cat that´s committing suicide behind the Opirus is an advertisement of the Vienna animal protection centre. If you don´t donate money to them, they will have to close and so (not only) the sweet little cat will have to die! The other advertisement is from McDonald, as you can see.

Just a small update this time.

A 300D T-model W123, looks like a daily driver:

w123.jpg

A Volvo 262C, super-rare, parked at a mechanic who has specialised on Volvos and Saabs:

262c.jpg

An FJ Cruiser, imported from the US. Looks like a medical doctors car...

fjcruiser.jpg

Futureshite, parked under some trees and waiting for the crusher:

futureshite.jpg

A Lada Samara 1.5i Executive  , with headlamp-whipers:

samaraq.jpg

That´s the variety of Taxis on duty in Vienna. You can have every Mercedes-Benz from the E124 and W201 190D up the the newest E-class:

taxisa.jpg

This Volvo is parked at the same workshop as the 262C above, it was the original car from a TV-show aired some years ago, called "Austrias worst car-driver":

A british bus, looked like shite:

That is a sleeper bus, two luxury lounges and probably around 14 bunks, the trailer will house the bands equipment!

A small update from me. During winter, most cars are stored somewhere, so there aren´t many interesting cars on the street. And the ones that are around, drive on winter-tires with rusty steel-rims.

A very rare, early Sonata:

sonatal.jpg

A Camry like mine, but manual and green:

camry1f.jpg

This Charade Compact Saloon is one of the ugliest Saloons ever made!!!

charadesaloon1.jpg

charadesaloon2.jpg

This Corolla is already in Africa now, it failed it´s austrian MOT on rust and was exported soon after I took this picture:

corollae8.jpg

I thought, tuning like that was trendy during the 90s! Horrible Opel Kadett Kombi:

kadettfc.jpg

This Land Rover 109 was a fire-department-car once, you can see the red colour coming through:

landrover.jpg

Ugly, but rare, Nissan Prairie:

prairie.jpg

A true auto-shiters R4:

18068674.jpg

A Renault 25 fron Frnace, pimped yo! :?

Good stuff Lukas! I agree about the Charade, super-ugly.

Posted

Great pics Lukas, that Charade is ace! Love the rear quarter, the 25 is cool too.

Posted

Oh Lordy, the Charade saloon. The hatchback was a good looking car - the boot does it no favours at all.

I love the Renault 4. :D
