Do you drive better after cleaning your car?

It sounds a bit odd but I always drive better (well for first ten mins) when the car has been cleaned ..... anyone else feel that way? you woft around in your nice clean car...letting people go...not jumping amber lights...etc...

Nope. Doesn't change my driving style but my cars always seem to run better after a wash...Apart from the Alfa 164 which killed its battery after I got the local foreign hand wash gang to give it the once over...

Yes!But mainly because at this time of year in Scotland the roads are damp and a journey of any length will see the nice clean car covered in shite in no time. Keeping a longer distance from the car ahead and dodging puddles (I am NOT recommending this action!) keeps it shiny for longer.I admit that when driving an old heap that not only scares other drivers due to the unidentifiable nature of the type but also one that's totally manky, I use their quick 'getting out of the way' moves to my advantage and push through aggressively. If you have a shite car people assume you don't care if it's dented or anything and swiftly get out your way! I think this might explain the driving difference for me before it's cleaned..

Yes definately especially like it with metallics with their clear coat.I remember about ten years ago I had a VW Polo 'Estate' bought cheap, I gave it the valet of its life and I was chuffed that I got it so clean that I celebrated by going for a drive only to have some nob-jockey smash into the back of me and write the (clean) car off.

I'm sorry - what is this 'cleaning the car' malarkey about then? Are you supposed to do it?

Yup, definitely. After a good wash & polish I always feel like I'm driving it out the showroom for the first few miles. It's a wonderful feeling. and somehow the car even seems to drive better, like it's thanking you for all your hard graft with the chamois leather. :D This usually lasts till the first naffing Pigeon strike, and then all the rattles come back!

I cannot stand driving cars with dirty interiors. First thing I do when I buy a car is give the interior a proper clean, get rid of the previous keepers broken biscuits from between the seats, fish out those 4 year old Toffos and give the whole inside a good going over. If a car is minging inside, I'll drive it like a tw@. If it's clean, I'm easy going and relaxed, I'll even indicate and give way - in an Audi.

not worth it i live in the arse of no-where, so tracteurs normally churn up the fields before dragging it all over the road so for most of the winter months the cars looks like...

Once a year, it is part of the MOT!

so we drive down a side street in the nearest town, park-up, tuck into a bit of home cooked lunch while the restaurant owner's kids sort the car out. Just like our UK Eastern European ex petrol-station valet outfits, but FREE with bloody good grub at less than 50p a head.

I tend to avoid the lanes with a clean car - stupidly driving an extra 3 miles just because I washed the car.

Im with Pete M on this , as long as the inside is clean im not too bothered , cant see the outside much from the inside especially on the Ashtray ,I keep the Imps fairly clean though purely as a preservation thing

Agreed with the comments about dirty car interiors. I cannot abide driving round sat in a skip. Becasue of the mileage I do the car is often / constantly dirty outside but I do like to keep it clean inside.

I didn't wash my MX5 for a while after the drift day - it was completely covered in mud...But after hitting a wall in it last week, I'd say it's slowed me down rather a lot!

I'd take all my cars to the Polish car wash if it was nearer. It costs a fiver and they do a really good job, even cleaning under the arches and inside the door shuts. Alas it's nearly 20 miles away so unless I have to go to Grimsby for something I end up busting out the brush and pressure washer and doing it myself. Cleaning cars isn't something I enjoy at all unless it's a real minter worth of the effort.

I don't like the idea of other people cleaning my cars, especially the "professionals" at one of the 500 local hand car washes around here. So I do it myself. Nice good wash with a bucket and sponge in the driveway, doesn't usually take that long and costs pennies.Though lately I've been taking the Charmant to a jetwash after being impressed with how nicely it cleaned up a grimy Capri. It's inside and all lit-up so I can do it on an evening whilst it chucks it down. I don't go for the brush though, just the sprayer. Usually they're a bit of a waste of time as they don't seem to remove anything except loose mud, but this particular one is great and you get to use it for absolutely ages. I use it as an opportunity to give the underside and inner arches a good long blasting, amazing how much rubbish comes off at this time of year. Did it on Sunday night then took it straight up the M1 to dry it off, looks lovely now.Interiors of my cars are a different matter, they don't tend to be dirty, just filled with rubbish - old carrier bags and paperwork.

I ge them to do mine, they do a corking job. I also like to get a once yearly interior valet off them too for £25!

I heart cleaning my own cars, kind of therapy for me when I'm getting stressed. I've even bought cars before and begged the vendor not to clean them as I honestly love doing it.A recent incident involving a hose pipe which came adrift and some minor flooding of a neighbour's has slightly curtailed these activities for now though and the daily is minging :(

No change in the driving, and we don't was the vans for professional reasons! Painted the biggest luton a couple of months ago, had nothing but mechanical trouble since. They look nice, they break, look like shit, they are reliable.....
