although i never did add up what mine cost to build, it was certainly a fuck side more than this is selling for - and it looks like he’s done all of the hard work already

so that hardtop I bought back in may looked a bit scruffy

Image1.jpeg.2bb504cd82ba672a8f36b4e05aba429b.jpeg

I eventually decided to do something about it

IMG_8130.jpeg.36e8ad82ed5bf3d25c22f9681bce84b7.jpeg

IMG_8134.jpeg.31fa2c557ea92dce2f71a33f67a9d9b0.jpeg

IMG_8129.jpeg.8c0016d92e86911bb4aec8d6dc2b29c4.jpeg

IMG_8131.jpeg.bf7762bc4aa800cfc5686395446249b1.jpeg

IMG_8136.jpeg.7cf690d12dff7ebe99a31551ff9b565d.jpeg

IMG_8132.jpeg.2010a2dd3d2baa3e79cffea1c5816ac6.jpeg

repairs were made and sanded

IMG_8140.jpeg.2b4a922bb5a1c4962ecd73dfcfbfe0f0.jpeg

I sanded it down ready for paint

IMG_8145.jpeg.67723a10ebfe64263fe59b9acdabbf79.jpeg

then got bored so it stayed like that for a couple of months

eventually, I got round to throwing some paint at it

IMG_8137.jpeg.82ab242d0b1074c78d13ea0b02dcdc32.jpeg

IMG_8462.jpeg.b3db05e586c30746e375e0dad7b1c687.jpeg

two coats of primer - not too bad

IMG_8460.jpeg.99443b7aa82e0756b2fec67f1fc5e440.jpeg

IMG_8459.jpeg.2bad5f616d079b08ce378a1b8735d5b9.jpeg

two coats of lidls finest metal paint

IMG_8463.jpeg.4482d4d9d8f105cd456a8d9ed7a4bfc9.jpeg

IMG_8464.jpeg.c1016aed84e711ad29bc5eeec7884615.jpeg

dried a bit streaky :( and I couldn't find any more lidls paint

IMG_8480.jpeg.60be45ccb9332024372b9c418a903fc4.jpeg

so threw on a coat of whatever else I had lying around - turned out to be a satin finish :(

IMG_8481.jpeg.7fac2c7e952fbf5d4001d540a329d7e3.jpeg

IMG_8506.jpeg.5adfb8d8df13c33d8dd8ebaff040b032.jpeg

IMG_8507.jpeg.de48c7a15b62b3d3077ad3f98ed8f220.jpeg

so chucked a whole can of hammerite gloss black at it

IMG_8511.jpeg.d02a1e64a06c38bcb1a7e3f2276bf61f.jpeg

IMG_8512.jpeg.74d3210db17fd9d9178d13adaedde76b.jpeg

that's more like it

IMG_8514.jpeg.e9b1bd6d4bcc7303a8e0a934431aa2ba.jpeg

peeled the masking off

IMG_8516.jpeg.a40f9745ee58b962b99f418eb7411da1.jpeg

found a roll of edge trim left over from the Exo

IMG_8525.jpeg.55c1c675891634fcf64e85c8f84765bc.jpeg

which went on nice and neat

IMG_8526.jpeg.6ef5283aecd9cdabc08564cbcaaf19c4.jpeg

and back on the car

IMG_8529.jpeg.1099e411ab7e3d5b5d0756499ee5de13.jpeg

yep, I'm pretty pleased with that :) only took four months !

been out for a run in Exo

IMG_8559.jpeg.392e0030d94c8b282711c21b80a88f4a.jpeg

it got dark while I was out, 70*mph on the motorway at night is mild scary :)

IMG_8564.jpeg.e6f5db4bbadcc7fd5d9aacc949d0e0d7.jpeg

not to mention bloody cold !

must have taken her hours

taking advantage of a bit of decent weather, i headed for the coast

first stop seaham harbour

IMG_8857.jpeg.5e7a2b3bd27763c25555a75d7ee4e9cd.jpeg

then spotted a sign for “seaham hall serenety spa”

IMG_8862.jpeg.4273710bc299d756efe1217832b93480.jpeg

i’m sure their guests appreciated Exo arriving :)

continuing up the coast, i stopped at south shields and did a big skid on some sand that had blown across the car park

IMG_8865.jpeg.3acef2775d42a9cc2025531676bdb99e.jpeg

not long until winter hibernation, need to squeeze in as much hooning as possible

what's going here ? poor Exo banished to the cold ?

IMG_8941.thumb.jpeg.c31ad3817940e8823d532093ed6cecee.jpeg

yep, it would appear that @Mi30n's ginger biscuit is hogging the garage

IMG_8942.thumb.jpeg.0b24b8c0691809535b1298ce145ee263.jpeg

having some much needed diff seals fitted

IMG_8943.thumb.jpeg.931ce7adffe5e8405ec12bc7a0d50b3b.jpeg

there should be around 1litro of oil in that diff, we seem to be slightly under

IMG_8944.thumb.jpeg.8b2fcda8bc9e185cf1bc217e5010b3fd.jpeg

and what did come out absolutely stank :(

even worse, I managed to get some in (what little there is of) my hair :(

not to worry, all sorted now and filled with fresh, less stinky oil and a quick test drive round the waldridge ring and its good as new :)

time for beer, pizza and a hot shower

having forgotten to sorn Exo at the end of last month, I thought I might as well take it for a quick run up the coast (anyone recognise this beach ?)

IMG_8974.jpeg.04b4c56fd58a151c200747773030aeb7.jpeg

lovely and sunny but bloody cold as the light faded and it was time to head home.

stopped at Ouseburn on the way to the coast

IMG_8970.jpeg.685c1c699e527a4e6cfb6e87e975ace0.jpeg

a lad walking past paused, took off his headphones and mumbled "yeah, cool, man" :)

i've stuck the shit wheels on ready for hibernation next week (the tyres are all rubbish so not bothered if they get flat spotted)

IMG_9019.jpeg.dc4b164f04f11275ae669baa50285ed8.jpeg

obviously I felt obliged to take it for a quick blast round the block

and so the Exo began its winter slumber round at me mams house :(

IMG_9047.thumb.jpeg.e36b69ab93bdae3b3606a4c00676b607.jpeg

just in time, it would appear

IMG_9110.thumb.jpeg.4d85d94ce5008b4ada02066876c4253a.jpeg

so I spent a bit of time tidying the garage

IMG_9141.thumb.jpeg.71e13b2da97770a270d658393d03298e.jpeg

then a big ginger biscuit arrived @Mi30n

IMG_9157.thumb.jpeg.db206ee2274e328ecff7aa5068d88c04.jpeg

which needed new brakes

IMG_9156.thumb.jpeg.e284fe2ee55978cde3e86321f01b2297.jpeg

quite badly, it would seem :)

IMG_9158.thumb.jpeg.12b3096b666c0a88103c718d0fdf1121.jpeg

no surprise it was pulling to the left

now the garage is empty, i thought i would move the mx5 in

image.thumb.jpeg.2d6651cc698948295d7e29951b0d5ecb.jpeg

except its been so long since i’ve used it, the battery was flat :(

i gave it a jump start and took it for a medicinal hoon then tucked it up nice and cosy

IMG_9194.thumb.jpeg.d856dc92b639074a9f00141e07faf39d.jpeg

i had planned on fitting the heated rear screen harness for the hardtop but by the time i’d found it, i couldn’t be arsed :(

job for next week then

change of plan - I put the hardtop up for sale then sold the wiring harness !

I also sold the leather seats so plenty of ££ in the car fund to spend on Exo over the winter :)

and I finally found my envelope of stickers I'd put in a safe* place

one for the mazda

IMG_9252.thumb.jpeg.461a73fa25354193b467cc966e3a184e.jpeg

and one for the volvo

a couple of mazda shaped visitors today

first up chris in his yellow banana picking up the hardtop

IMG_9265.thumb.jpeg.f21b4420f492f6f400bfbc1d1b6a0783.jpeg

then @Mi30n to borrow a set of wheels as one of his alloys seems to be buckled

IMG_9270.thumb.jpeg.f72fbddea2ce3087ad15754d9d030941.jpeg

noticed a bit of unusual wear on the rear disc - what could be causing this ?

IMG_9268.thumb.jpeg.c5f924b711af25073584745610733a23.jpeg

we’ll strip it down next week and see if the caliper needs replacing. in the meantime, changing the wheels seems to have cured the vibration at speed.

as i had a bit of spare time, i swapped the headlights in my own mazda to leds

IMG_9272.thumb.jpeg.0f25744497c1ef585300abb7eda6e77d.jpeg

very bright, not a hope of passing an mot with that beam :)

a couple of weeks ago, I spotted a good deal on tyres on the ebay

four Toyo Tr1 in size 195 50 15 for £180 delivered (normally around £240) so even though I didn't particularly need them...

IMG_9235.jpeg.8025d0dd6aca0758701ff6932b898dba.jpeg

and a while ago, I'd picked up a set of Bini Cooper alloys

IMG_9237.jpeg.698ce401aae2ae260ba9052339c143c4.jpeg

should look pretty smart on the mx5

IMG_7388.jpeg.8e74395e88598e7e67a49454b3ea351e.jpeg

they're tip top, i'm just not sure about the colour

IMG_7390.jpeg.47fbb17f07451c44071e2563603015ad.jpeg

using high grade man maths - why pay for fitting when I can get them fitted free if I get them refurbished ?

I got a quote form a local place that comes highly recommended and went along to drop them off - turned out the quote was based on standard silver but I wanted the pricier bronze finish :(

but hell, it was worth it :)

IMG_9347.jpeg.c9b4da282cf75eb3869595278934cf2e.jpeg

lets have a look at them on the car

IMG_9421.jpeg.79a1a80523b910ebf32fa7c17d78f970.jpeg

well worth it :)

IMG_9422.jpeg.7356f280d19cdd5de02148d001281e86.jpeg

they will be coming off the mazda and going the Exo when it comes out of hibernation, should look very smart. new wheel nuts and centre caps are on order, should be here soon to finish the job.
