Exactly how dismal are these with the 1-litre triple under the bonnet?

Fine about town but finds hills hard work, that's to be expected though.  My OH has done about 35k in it in 4 years, this is the first MOT it's gone straight through since she has had it.

Air con was regassed while it was in but made no difference. Turns out the compressor and pump are fucking fucked m8, they have quoted over £500 to replace them.

Dangerously slow on anything except a 30 limit.

I did 100 miles in one as a courtesy* car touring the Midlands looking for a new. Brand new 1.0 12v Ecotec. Absolutely gutless. Literally nothing, in any gear, at any speed. Just about maintained 70mph on the motorway home but anything steeper than 1:100 and it demanded a downshift.

No they aren't, they are underpowered but hardly dangerous, I used my daughters 1.0 one for a while and it was absolutely fine, yes you'd get overtaken by everything but it was faster than lorries, vans and milk floats, they are frustratingly slow but more than capable enough in all situations, apart from high speed motorway driving which wasn't really in the design brief.

I’ve driven a few 1.0. It felt like the clutch was slipping it was that gutless. It’d be ok for nipping to Morrisons in at a push but I wouldn’t hit the motorway in one, it’s lack of pace is completely unacceptable in every situation apart from the local suburbs. It’s not a very smooth unit either, the chain giving a rather alarming clattering on start up.

Ive not tried the 1.4 or the bigger units, they might be ok, but the 1.0 - just don’t put yourself through it! Some people just love them though, my brother in law loves his, he won’t be parted with it even though it’s in the dire straights.

I bet your foot was killing after being WELDED to the carpet to maintain 70mph.

The 1.4 is more suited to the weight - my driving instructor had one! The diesels are more punchy though.

... but impossibly rough.

Vauxhall seemed to go through an awful phase of burgundy, doom blue and silver Corsas, Astras and Vectras that they’ve only recently, or so I thought, had got out of. The new Corsa looks decent, I could see how the electric one might make sense for people if it wasn’t £15 million. But after initially seeing them in some nice fresh colours I spotted one in that dreadful Silk Cut Purple. I thought, optimistically perhaps, that when Peugeot had taken over they’d taken all the old faces away that likes polyester trousers, hard black plastic and maroon and had them quietly killed.

The electric one is available quite cheap on finance sometimes - I guess that’s the way they’ll be sold to most. It was more expensive for a cash purchase than my MG which is far more practical albeit a little down on range.

Regarding the air con, the garage have recommended ringing round breakers yards and seeing if we can get a second hand compressor.

...but of course the question on everybody's lips is, does it have a shark on the glovebox?

The purple peril has been sounding a bit growly lately and today the exhaust fell off while Mrs Eyersey was at work. Currently awaiting the RAC to get recovered to a garage.

Somehow Mrs Eyersey managed to break off a front wiper this morning, fortunately it clipped back on alright.

I don't think so, I've seen a few others in this colour, though it's possible it was a special order colour when the cars were new. The car is running well, approaching 114k now.

The Purple Peril may be getting L plates attached so my stepdaughter can get a bit of driving practice in between lessons. Long term she will get her own car at some point though.

The purple peril clicked over 115k the other day, it seems to have developed a slight coolant leak though, I filled the header tank up 9 days ago and it s empty again.

Forgot to update this, the coolant leak turned out to be a hose which got replaced.

I saw one of these Corsas in Ayr not too long ago, quite a nice colour in the flesh metalwork.
