Bini fettling

Examining the spare key for the mini, I noticed one of the little microswitches was missing. I ordered a soldering iron kit, buttons and a new fob case.
I'm going to either repair it or royally fuck it up. Total spend was £20 which is a lot cheaper than a new key I presume. 5p piece for scale. They are tiny!404cb3b46095e59b272ab1a07a96131a.jpg460ba3356ab81849a7fb7b8f71cf1c7f.jpgeb787fbb2b7aed6bcbe2ffb7e918bc87.jpg

It's apart. It still works. When I press the button an led lights up.
Downloaded a magnifying glass on my phone for this photo. You can see where the missing switch is.
I've had 4 cups of coffee today and I'm rattling a bit. Probably not good for this job.5c1c2a327db20d587db880bc3b276eee.jpg

I've been out and tested it. It works perfect. I just need the fob case to arrive now.
Switches £2
Fob case £6
Soldering iron kit £13

£21 total. That's a result for a spare key.77ddb1c49645ce89677ad1227b5a04ab.jpg

I've seen a lot worse soldering than that, not a bad job! A lot of people seem to thing they can superglue the switches on

Unless you have an early one  from the first few months of production as mine had an electrical meltdown and I couldn’t use the boot till I sorted out the problem.

You can still get into it with the parcel shelf in place but it’s a mission, I thinking of retrofitting the lock and cable but I’ve been saying that for about a year and a half now lol .

That looks a fantastic repair I didn’t risk repairing my remote key as it would of ended up worse if I had got my hands on it.

A guy on eBay did my circuit board Switches  for around a tenner I think and I just refitted a new cover to mine but mine still doesn’t work and apparently on the later facelift R50/53 you can put the key in the ignition and press a few buttons and it will synchronise again to the car.

The early ones have a remote box behind the roof liner above the rear view mirror which normally plays up and needs changing if it still doesn’t work and  it’s plug and play and quite easy to do.

I was thinking of supergluing it on to hold it till I soldered it. Wasn't sure if it would work though.

Luckily for me the parcel shelf was out and the back seats were folded. I just had to shift all the stuff in the back and fit the battery.

Supergluing the switch body to the pcb first then soldering the joints does work well. I did exactly that when repairing my bini key.

That's what I was thinking. Wasn't sure if the fumes from the glue would get me high though.
I should've waited till 5 o'clock and tried.

Only one way to find out

I'm not sure superglue fumes would mix with hobgoblin.

I think you'll find experience counts for a lot ?

I wouldn't wish one on my worst enemy, put it that way.

Superglue and a soldering iron leads to fumes which make you cry!

They're the absolute worst! Cyanoacrilate (superglue) is used in forensic labs to find fingerprints - they heat it up and it seeks out anything damp or greasy within quite a large distance, and it settles on them and solidifies. It does the same with eyeballs.

The pole on the the back that you screw the nut onto is plastic. You have to use the nut to make a thread as you tighten it up. Two snapped straight off and a few started to melt and go soft. i'm going to have to silicone it on.

The headlight washer covers still haven't turned up.

Edit. Just checked. Saturday-Thursday delivery. Plenty of time then.

I've ordered some g3 as well to cut the paint in. T-cut just wasn't working in the slightest, even using a drill polisher.

The headlight washer covers have turned up. I think I've had my arse felt thought. Twenty odd quid for two small bits of plastic.
