The CRV fixed itself yesterday, so I asked the garage for a re-test.

This morning it decided to un-fix itself, so retest cancelled.

Mondy has decided to blow a headlight bulb in sympathy too.

I don't want to call it as not enough data. But my hunch is on the stalk.

I say that as looking at what diagrams I can find, it's one of the few single points of failure.

Its a weird fault.

Main beam work when lights are off, when sidelights are on.

But when on dipped only the left main beam works.

Auto electrician will be looking at it on Thursday.

I really need her sorted, as Disco can't come off road, till CRV can be used.

So. For those who guessed knackered stalk, give yourself a pat on the back.

Autosparky has taken the good switched earth and connected that to a new relay, to power both high beams.

The above may as well be in klingon, in terms of my understanding, but at least the garage can put the crv back in for test.

The Disco gets its first long trip tomorrow. Off to Blue Anchor. Hopefully Andyberg will be on standby for recovery duties

Disco had a new track rod end. I've put correct air pressure in the tyres and the traction control mostly stays off now.

Mrs Cookie is achieving 19 mpg on her commute !

Couldn't have he just replaced the stalk rather than bodging the wiring?

I took my last C6 for an MOT a few years ago and it was handed back to me with a pass but also a comment that the main beam was not working on one side and that this was a recent change in the MOT test.  Its weird that your tester failed you, unless this is a quirk that is only allowed on HID lights or something.

Car ran out of mot, so illegally parked in road. 

He didn't carry a spare stalk and I needed it fixing pronto. Cant wait a week for a stalk to turn up from a breakers.

I will ask, although mine are Halogen and I do think it needs both main beam to work to pass.

The Disco made it.

29 mpg which is not too shabby for  near 3 tonne truck on hilly twisty roads.

Only regretted bringing her twice, when entering corners at mondeo speeds, made me a tad scared.

I soon remembered it needs a more sedate driving style

The Honda is on the naughty step.

Went to Frome this morning. Lots of snow on the ground.

Parked in main car park. The exit is one way up a steep hill.

The Honda failed to make it. Front wheels spinning, traction control light blinking like its at a disco.

Seems as though the AWD I bought isn't very AWD lol

Here she is looking sorry for herself.

 

Will make the trip to Scotland immediately after Crimbo, interesting. As I'm now going to have to take the Disco

Well the Disco 3 has disgraced itself.

To the point that Mrs Cookie wants it gone.

I'm hoping she changes her mind, as I'm not sure its going to roffle that well and it owes me 3k.

Mrs C was taking the youngest to the next village over, when the car started throwing numerous error messages, including, hand brake failure, suspension failure, transmission failure. The car did keep going, but it has stressed her out (she is very stressed at the moment).

She wants it gone. Says she would rather walk, then get in it again.

I've ordered a carsoft v3.0 LR diagnostic, which in hindsight I should have bought on day one.

Sadly all garages are shut till new year, so Fixing it will need to wait.

How's the battery?  Multiple systems losing their marbles in a modern can often point at marginal system voltage, especially if it's not been used every day lately.

I had read that low battery can cause a Disco, a boatload of issues.

Sadly I have no way of testing it.

I've also read that a blown tail or brake light can give the same issue.

Went out and started it up. No warnings

The diagnostic kit can't get here quick enough.

Once Mrs C takes against a car, it can be very difficult / nigh on impossible to change her mind.

Multimeter over the terminals will give you a rough idea of idle battery voltage, then check it every day to see if it drops any. A decent battery should read over 12.5 volts.

Mine did all of that when the alternator shat its biscuits.

Battery light come on when you put the ignition on then goes out when its running?

Yes battery light goes out.

Starts ok. Would have thought it wouldn't if Alternator was on the fritz?

Had to replace the battery on my old d3, every time I started it it threw up loooaaaddds of faults briefly until the charger whirler brought the voltage back up to acceptable levels. 
 

106.784% get it tested along with the charger whirler. If it’s over charging it’ll set fire to itself.

Dodgy earth perhaps? I've had that on a couple of cars, causes them to spit the dummy out if they're not getting a consistent circuit as a result.

Due to Mrs Cookie being ill, the LR of many faults has not been used for a tad over a week.

So I thought I better give it a run. 

I turned the key more in hope than expectation, but it did fire into life

No warning lights either, which was a pleasant surprise. Well till I was half a mile down the road and the suspension fault came on, max speed 30 mph.

Pulled over. Switched off. Back on again. Suspension fault gone

But now a hand brake fault

Oh well.

Got home.  And thought I should try the most expensive bit of kit, I've ever bought

Yep, I spunked 185 quid on a diagnostic.

Anyway, I plugged it in. 

I should have taken a picture, but frankly I was in shock.

10 plus faults !!! I admit I probably crapped myself, hence no pic.

But then, when I restarted, no faults !

Probably is just a battery, but I'm loathe to fork out strong money without being sure.

Anyway, its off to the local LR Indy specialist next Monday, to have the revised gearbox sump fitted, gearbox fluid change and investigate, fix the sinking suspension and fix the sunroof drains so the car stops flooding.

I'm going to get them to read all the codes (many of which may be historic) and advise.

At least the rear lights work. Heres a pic

Damn I missed this post. You could have borrowed my Foxwell thingy. 

Does the iCarsoft do all the modules?

Number of codes isn't important, it's what they are. My mum's Cayman had 18 codes after I replaced the battery but all related to the many modules stopping talking to each other over time as the battery slowly discharged and died. 

Key thing is also how many of those codes come back after being cleared.

Does some dealer level stuff too.

Also has Jaguar software, so if I ever buy one of those I'm covered.

I do suspect battery, but as its going to a garage, they can sort it out.

Later this week, I will clear the codes and then give it a run. Then read again and see what comes back.
