What car would you buy next...

....if you had a wad of spare cash to get the one motor you always promised you'd have (must be vaguely shitey)? For me it would probably be a Mk1 Strada or an Avenger.

I must admit I have always hankered after a non sporty Fiat 131 Mirafiori but I am a pervert.

Rover P6 with a diese...oh hang on :o I'd have all kinds of crud but I'm sort of thinking an Austin 3-Litre (ideally EFO 177H if it's still alive) or another Cavalier Calibre could be a hoot.

If it has to be shite, I want a Sherpa!!!Otherwise, I am hoping that in the next 6 months or so I can 'upgrade' my BMW, but am a bit stuck between an E36 M3 or being slightly more sensible and opting for an E46 330D M-sport....

I have a strange hankering for a Citroen XM, Volvo 940 TD or a Mercedes 300D. Someone ought to put me straight.

I had a 131 supermirafiori when I was 19, great car but it rusted away in front of my eyes. Had a 132 2000 after that and it went exactly the same way :(

They look so sumptious inside. I could always buy a Cortina and turn it into a 131 like the bloke in the advert did! (anyone remember that ad?)

Lancia Trevi; even if it didn't go, which would be more than likely, I could just sit in it and look at the dashboard 8)

One day I will have the best of the land yachts.

And I will drive around all day wearing a plaid sports jacket and a white loafers/belt combo, bliss. Seriously, if I ever end up with about £5000 into my hands I would do it. I'd love to be rich enough to have one as a daily, imagine wafting into work in that, you'd feel like the king.

Also Pog, I burned off one of those 330D things in the Charmant the other day, he thought it'd be clever to use a right-hand turn only lane to overtake the straight on lane - unfortunately he wasn't reckoning on me planting my foot into the deep pile carpet and had to wait in the wrong lane for someone to let him in, which didn't seem to be forthcoming, bad luck eh! Hirst man, you live with your mum!!!Stop wasting your money on low quality foodstuffs and alcohol from Aldi and get saving. You could be LIVING THE DREAM in a couple of months. Imagine all the fanny you'd get.

I currently have a craving to own something built by British Leyland from the 70's......oh thank goodness. The nurse has just arrived with me pills!!! I'd love something RWD and chrome bumpered. A nice c1978/9 Chevette GLS saloon, in red with red interior and rostyles would really hit the spot... 8)

Really want a Vauxhall Firenza for some reason

I dread to think what sort of Mark V I would scrape up with two months money put aside. Or indeed the fanny. Hirst Cabs isn't free, man! Or tins of "spesh".The difficulty is attempting to save up for a pricey motor when dross is just as tempting. When I sell the Cuore I'm quite literally going to have to hide the money or within the week I'll have a load of tatty Sierras/Carina Es/whatever dross appears.

far be it from me to say what car i want next when i dont own any car whatsoever, but i really want a Sierra. Unhealthy amounts of want.Any is fine, as long as its not barry'd. Maybe a nice silver one. Or an Olympic Blue one. Same with the Granada MKIII though, id love one of them, with a leather interior. But alas, insurance would be about one million pounds. But if i could have any realistic first car, a Viva HC 1.3 or Chevette would do me fine.....

April 1976 - Revisions: base renamed L and gains cloth upholstery; L renamed GL with no changes; GL becomes GLS and gains velour upholstery.

October 1978 - Chevette GL 4-door Saloon model introduced with similar specification to Hatchback model. GL Hatchback now has sports wheels, additional bright trim around the windows, and matt-black rear panel. GLS Saloon discontinued.

Ok, I got my years slightly wrong, but I still want one and, yes, you still need a life you anorak-wearing type...

I had a Chevette GLS on an R plate, which was pretty close to the start. I think the opposite to what you said is true.

I'd love a mint condition 70's Audi of some sort..

A Farina something.Until recently I wanted something minty fresh but now I'm considering something that looks fresh out of the 80's with the appropriate down-at-heel look that I can preserve. As long as its solid & original. The best cars are just a little too rich for me now! I wanted a Wolseley, but I'm surveying A60's & Oxfords now.Just needing to create some space in my life to make it happen!

In fact, now I've spoken to the chap selling it, this exact car. It's local, had two owners from new, low mileage. I'm even faintly excited about it having a Suffolk 'RT' registration, not the usual Toyota GB pre-registration thing. Price is a little high and he's struggling to sell it, but I'm not in a position to haggle with him for another month or two. Don't really want to have to sell the Bluebird to fund it.

Other cars that have recently come up for sale, and/or I'm hoping might still be available soon, include that white R30 Skyline hatchback, the LPGed JDM Laurel taxi that's now only £750, a Bluebird SSS coupe and my old brown Starlet.

All very much attainable if I can save a little bit, once expenditure on house refurbishment slows up a bit.

Well this week the wantz list includesearly Volvo 140 saloonHillman AvengerHillman Hunter early 1970's Datsun 2000 I think thats what they were calledmind you it'll all change again by next week............though I've had the volvo hankering for nearly 4 months now

If I found myself with a wad of cash and nothing better to spend it on I would buy...A Hillman Avenger 1600DL Estate. Preferably in Deep Mango like the one I used to have. A Mini. A proper one with 10" wheels and NO stick-on tat. Preferably a Mk2, the sliding windows make them noticeably bigger inside, I'm sure the heater is a different design and the hydrolastic suspension makes them a bit more civilised. I would have it sprayed in battleship grey with red vinyl interior.A Mk2 Cortina. My friend's father had an early 1600E he'd re-shelled in 1969, complete with starburst on the dash where the previous owner's head had made contact, and I always wanted it. He still has it too.For a daily driver I would have a Renault Savanna with the 1.9D engine.Obviously the wad of folding would be sufficient to keep all of the above in good condition.
