My old tat, part one.

Found these pics this week, like a roll call of the worst British Shite:

£75 Avenger, Dad's MK4 Cortina Est just behind:

£150 Mk.1, hand painted INSIDE and out. Apologies for the scrawny cnut blocking the view:

Mk.2 Crapi - check out the rear end sag. Quality Shite, obligatory Bob Brown colour. 2 litre Goes Lovely.

Me and me mate had nearly-matching ones, shame I didn't photo the other side it had a picture of a witch on it (wtf?). Once again, some bonus shite behind, being dad's B-reg sierra:

The Motherlode, the creme de la creme of shite. Offsetting the overall maroon-ness are the black and yellow seat covers. No reverse and no second. 1.7engine on pram tyres, nearly killed me on the A46. Got pulled out of a ditch just off the A6. Involved in a 12 car pile up on the A47.:

More recently. Got this for free, ran it for 6 years, 40k and 2 gearboxes.:

I remember, at the time of owning a pair of mk1 and mk2 Escorts, I couldn't wait to get rid of the horrible things. They are nice pics, you can almost feel the lack of any love and care eminating from that Avenger!

The avenger was bought off a farm I vaguely recall for my brother to waz up and down the M69 when he was at uni in Cov. Mechanically it was OK, bro even got pulled for speeding on the motorway. I learnt in it and got about 6 mths use before MOT fail. Ran out of metal to weld onto. And yes, the Escorts were awful too. Used to crash the van on purpose, mildly entertaining.

You, sir, are a true shiter! Salute! Quality tin there.

Theres some proper shite in them pictures, Classy! 8) Imagine what the old Escorts are worth now though...

If only I'd known... At the time they were as cheap as chips, and deeply unfashionable. Would never have guessed they would ever be collectable. The Audi would have been nice to hang on to, but I couldn't afford to put gearbox number 3 in. I think the fragile autos on them are why they're a rarity nowadays.

Car locations:

Avenger & Mk2 Van - just off the Narborough Rd (living at mums)

Mk1 - On it's way to Hemsby, my holidays are as classy as my cars.

Crapi - Braunstone Park, posh location so must have been photoing to sell it.

Marina - just off the main road in Birstall, where I resided briefly.

Audi - cheeky free parking in Leicester round the back of the old Mem Saab, double yellows but never a ticket yet.

I am desperately searching for the rest of my car pics, especially the Allegro and the mk 3 crapi. I still know where the manta is (sadly crumbling) might pop up and grab a pic of that too. The KA won't qualify as shite for a few more years yet (just shit, not the same). Have posted the spitfire up previously. F*cking hell I've owned some tat in my time.

*** BONUS POINTS if you can id the van in the Marina background, never noticed that shite before ***

Have just been reminiscing about the whole Marina experience.Daily commute:Take one rubber hammer, lie on road under car, thwack starter motor.Attempt to start car, if no luck repeat road/lying down/thwacking/cursing.Once started, engage first gear and accelerate sharply (ish). No second gear, so you have to get to at least 20 in first so third can be attained.Attempt to keep road speed above 20 all the way to work because 3rd down to 1st will throw the engine out of the car.Do not accelerate on corners, especially in the wet.Open all windows even in sub-zero temperatures, as the soaking wet carpets will steam up the screen. If you manage to arrive safely at work, you will need to back the car into a parking space. There is no reverse gear, so open driver door and engage auxillary power (right leg) to push car backwards into space.

No, mine was an E-reg 2.0litre coupe in white. Had a tendency to go a bit mouldy on the cloth interior, but was nice and quick. Had two broken front springs, so never MOT'd it just wazzed it round the estate like a naughty kid. Left it to die on a mate's drive when the scrappies didn't pay you anything, he probably has weighed it in now prices have gone up.

The old manta above, that's on my list of dream shite!
