Pics shamelessly nicked from OSF.

So what shite conversions have you come across?

I remember seeing a hot rod with a Ford 1.8 turbo diesel in it. Not quite the correct soundtrack really.Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow with a Volvo six-pot diseasel?

Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow with a Volvo six-pot diseasel?

That sounds great!Waftomatic luxobarge with an LT van engine.. Whats not to like!I could quite do a Silver Shadow, but would have to be battered with no hubcaps like the Corniche Edward Woodwoodwood drove in some series eons ago.. What was it called?

Jaguar Mk VII (I think, could be Mk VIII) with Gardner diesel in it, lives round the corner, and it`s in fantastic condition. Used to belong to a director of GardnersRolls Royce Phantom 111 with Perkins diesel.Do these qualify as shite conversions :?::?::?:

A mate for mine has put a Perkins diesel (orginally out of a Commer Walk-Thru!) into a Rover P4 100. Not 'shite' though, since the original six pot didn't exactly blow it's doors off, and it was to be scrapped otherwise - it wasn't mint or anything, needed the usual work at the bottom of the doors, the B and C post etc. So if it hadn't been 'dieseled' it would have been off to China as a cube - he got it when scrap prices were pretty high.

I was down the local banger track one time as a kid when the guys that ran it were trying to sell a Mk3 Pontiac Transam which they whacked a 2 litre engine out of a Cortina into and were trying to flog in Auto Trader as standard. They were on the phone talking giving some guy a load of bull about it when i was in there. Not sure if they were sucessful or not. I would hope not.

I remember an Autotrader ad about 10 years ago for a Rover P5b Coupe with a Perkins diesel in.Mate of mine had a Stag with a 2.8 Ford V6 engine in, I had a go in it and it drove well enough but you always felt that there was something missing i.e a V8 burble.I have a magazine with a mk2 Golf with an A-series 1275cc in it, I think it was some kid's college project but I just though why? why would you do that?

What about that shitty white Sierra that was on ebay a while back with a 1256 Viva engine in it. There was a dude local around this way that had a 60's Lincoln Continental with a Nissan Laurel engine in it

Bloody hell where was that taken, that looks like my old Series III OLJ 924R behind, never seen another marine blue SWB with those side windows..!!One of the contributing chaps on Practical Classics has a old Bristol with a BMC 2.2 diesel in it 8)

Was going to mention that sierra but you beat me to it!Looked bloody terrible, wonder what happened to it.I bet that conti struggled up slight gradients, and had a downright jealousy inducing power to weight ratio.......

That Jag smacks of the 'I don't know much, but I know a Ford engine' mentality that so many cars have been butchered with over the years. There was a bloke on Retro Rides who had some kind of mint Datsun saloon, and he was going to 'tune it up' by lobbing a Pinto in it.Why?Pintos are shit engines. They're stupidly heavily, they're not powerful for their size, they have a shit cylinder head and because of the scene tax association, you'll spunk 3 grand into one and get 150 brake. Whoop di fucking doo.I got told by some old boy racer to put a Pinto in my Amazon, 'because they're far better'. What, replace a wheezy cast iron boat anchor with another, heavier, crappier boat anchor? Nice thinking batman.Seriously, I'd rather have a K Series than a fucking Pinto. At least the K Series is powerful for its size \ weight, and Rover cured the HGF that plagued so many of them..

Pintos do suck the fat one, but I guess there were so many trillion of them flowing under the gate of every scrapyard that they found their way into all sorts of rammel. Only the most diehard injection-phobic ford dweeb mucks about with pintos now I reckon.

Here in Sweden its more common to chuck in Volvo B20 and B23s into Transits mk 1 and 2s.

Does such a machine exist? 8)

Here's one for you

MGB with a canal barge engine

That is absolutely fantastic

In my past life I worked on a farm and we had little Leyland 154 tractors with A-Series BMC diesel engines in them, they were terrible starters even after a brain-numbingly expensive engine rebuild and new injectors/recon pumps, and shit my hat did they smoke!! I don't know if the B-Series 1800 is much of an improvement?

I can remember years ago in Autotrader a yellow Mk1 RX7 with a 2.0 Sierra engine.Recently, maybe last year, there was a Bristol something-or-other with a Nissan 280Z motor. Not necessarily a bad motor but when rebuilt Bristol engines go for like £20K it's gotta kill the resale value....

I seem to remember a Zodiac Executive Mk IV not so long ago on ebay with a 1.8TD lump in it, Made me laugh.

Never had an HGF on a properly serviced K - and I've had quite a few K Metros and Rover R8's and bubbles. But I agree, Wat - a mate (the scrapyard bloke) put a 2.5 K V6 in a GT6 Trump. Light car+light engine=as Damien Duff would say "Pretty good"

Another from ebay I recall was a Reliant Robin with a two pot diesel Kubota in it. Mmm... pleasant motoring.

I have often smiled at this 500sec that had a rotary in it. even turboed it MUST have been slow

Ah yes, but if it was the same one, that particular diesel engine was very highly tuned. It won the burnout competition at the nationals ... ooo, 8 years ago?

How about this Daihatsu 2.8 Diesel powered XJ6 that's just been listed on ebay?, It surely must be up there with the autoshite car of the year, Just look at it.

And imagine it running you to your wedding, You would be able to hear the bride heading to the church a mile of from the diesel clatter!.

That's a great conversion. I love it. Think I'd have to wind the turbo and fuelling up a bit though.
