I had some sort of ocd episode on this thread in winter 2019, I was absolutely glued to the sainsbury archive website searching out shite spots. It was very addictive! Thanks to @trigger for highlighting it, that became my answer to what to do on long winter evenings with only a cat for company 🤣

If that's the Apsley branch,  it has changed a bit since 1982. The incline/slope that the photo suggests is no longer there; the car park is almost all flat except for the section next to the access road.

It’s the woodhall farm branch the car park got leveled out years ago my wife and mother in law used to work there

Do you think the three Mini owners knew each other?

I remember going through a lot of these when the thread was originally posted, biggest frustrations are not knowing if you've looked at a store before or if they've added new images since you did.

It is nice looking back at a time when MK1 Fiestas, Mk2 Escorts and MK4 Cortinas were everywhere. I get excited now if I see a Sierra. The world has moved on.

Today- the junction of the 2 roads has been pedestrianised, and the NCP is different sort of park, the old vic is still there through the trees…..

That 2-dr shape was crying out for a hatch.

Don't bother with the Allagro - just put a hatch on the 1300 and tidy up the styling...

Don't even do that, just productionise Pininfarina's take on the 1100.

No, leave it to Citroen, they can do the 1800 version as well. We can not afford the investment if we want to line our pocket with cash and strip the company of any worth.

I don't think that's the reason, BMC became a shambles after the government interfered and pressured them into merging with Jaguar,Rover, Triumph, and Leyland Motors. There was just too much disruption over a short space of time. Also, production costs weren't controlled, because the original BMC merger ended up being dominated by Austin, who just weren't as good at it as Morris had been.

Edit: Like most mergers, the owners of the company lost out. The main beneficiaries are normally the parasitic bankers who originate the schemes for their own benefit. In the BL case the beneficiary was Mr Benn, who benefitted by gaining the political kudos from setting up a British "world beater".

Seven years later the whole lot was bankrupt.

Poor management. And under investment.

The bankers angle is right - BMC was a public quoted company on the stock exchange - they were over confident and paid big share dividends instead of reinvesting in the business.

Then Donald Stokes came along who was unable to sort things out.

Over £3billion in subsidies by Government.

If Donald Stokes had transferred from Leyland to BMC as boss, maybe it could have worked. Although his undoubted skills seemed to be more about selling products in the environment of a stable company. Turning around BMC and integrating every other large independent motor company in Britain into it at the same time would require the skills of the Angel Gabriel.

We shouldn't forget that every other independent commercial manufacturer was rolled into it, which meant that a separate lot of integration had to be managed.

I haven't looked on there in ages as it seemed to be impossible to work out if new images had been uploaded, or keep track of what you'd already looked at
