Conrad D. Conelrad Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 That's what the papers are saying... Lord Mandelson, the business secretary, is hoping to announce this afternoon that the government is extending the popular car scrappage scheme. He is to announce that the scheme will cover an extra 100,000 vehicles. It is estimated that so far the scheme has covered 200,000, suggesting the programme will carry on early into the new year. The extension of the programme will cover vans purchased before September 2002.He has been pressing the issue in talks with Downing Street and the Treasury, and sources at the Labour party conference in Brighton said that he had won his battle. There was no confirmation from his office.http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009 ... age-scheme
Guest Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Some months ago he made clear that it wasn't going to be extended, so now he's saying it will be? Make your mind up, Mandy!Wish they'd do a Mandelson scrappage scheme, he's already proven to be unreliable.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8278679.stm Mandelson has also said that he is 'willing to work for the Tories' in the event of a Labour defeat. I don't think Cameron would be willing to fund his cock sucking...I mean fact finding trips on £2000'000 yachts somehow. Vile little ponce.
trigger Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Just spotted that the scrappage scheme is to be extended for longer on the news. No shock really.
Pete-M Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 No surprise at all. Typical. This Gubbermint really are a bunch of wankers.

Then he did have plans to extend it. Vile.
Milford Cubicle Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 This Gubbermint really are a bunch of wankers.Aye, but what about the Government?
Pete-M Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I'm trying to avoid talking about that lot
AnthonyG Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Interesting about vans (up to 2002 ones) - I wonder if this is to try and help the Vauxhall plant in Luton. I thought it might be extended as soon as the CBI and EEF weighed in on the matter over the weekend.Bit late for LDV, although they were dead regardless.
Rusty Pelican Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Make a decison , change the decision , what a bunch of tossers this grubbermint are , is this scheme running in Scotland , may piss of up there to live if not , least in Scotland they dont take your home of you to pay for your care should you go in a carehome , probably deranged due to listening to the grubbermints ballshit.
CortinaDave Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I've actually no problem with the scheme itself.. offer £2k off a new car to punters trading in their old motors Fair enough, stimulates the economy, saves jobs etc... Its the fact that they then MUST be scrapped that I take offence to. What possible reason could they have for that? Bloody annoying to see all these genuine classics getting caught in the net.
binhoker668 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Spotted another victim today lurking on the forecourt of the Fiat Dealer, where I bought my Panda. I must get a cheap camera to keep in the car, so sorry about the shonky mobile phone pics. Had a chat to the salesman, apparently traded in by a chap who has owned it for 30 years, about 62,000 on the clock, it's very solid and tidy but not mint. Owner had tried to pass it on but no takers (well not at £2k).It's going to local scrapyard in a couple of days so if you know anyone who's got one, bits would be available if you got in quick.Damn! 213 lurking in the background there too - very absent ont roads in recent past...Always liked them tho....
Mr_Bo11ox Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Lot of fuss over this scrappage, I certainly dont mind my income tax being used to buy shiny new cars for other folk.....erm....
vicsmith Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Looks like another 100,000 units of viable stock are going to be removed from the game of chess that is the 2nd hand motor trade. It`s survivable, 200,000 are gone already and that`s made things pretty uncomfortable but at least they`re not trebling it or something.Don`t unsually bother forming opinions on individual politicians, but Mandleson is becoming like a particularily unlikeable bad guy in an `80s action thriller, one with an unrealistically nasty nature and an annoying voice who keeps bringing about the demise of cool characters you were hoping would still be alive at the end.Not sure if this means he will ultimately get his grisly comeuppance, caught in the workings of a machine, drowned in a water tower or maybe even somehow destroyed by a killer robotic spider of his own design, while pleading for his life and making all sorts of entreaties and shouting "No, please, I`ll give you anything you want.... money? you want money? Is that it? Hey!, come back here, you`ll regret this AAARGH" but you never know, weirder things have happened.
Mr Lobster Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Mandelson is particularly vile and odious but it's more that he is totally unelected yet seems to have a very fucking big say in what happens that gets me. CAN WE HAZ ELECSHUN NOW PLZ?

Is this an extra 100,000 to push it to 300k or 400k..?

Milford Cubicle Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 It's not like the next lot will be any better. Probably worse to be honest, with Lord Snooty at the helm.
whitevanman Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 oh I dont know about that, a fair few Tories have classics and they are going to reintroduce the rolling tax examtion.....might not be much but its more than the blood sucking C***S that are in just now are doing for us.......
Milford Cubicle Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 It could be worse in this country. Look at Ireland's car tax system for instance, it's nuts.
brammy777 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Stuff isnt that expensive here, when i went to Norway it was bloody insane, a chocolate bar is over a pound fifty in our money. And its 25 percent VAT out there.Seriously beautiful country though.
Milford Cubicle Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 ^yikes, I want to do a Scandinavian roadtrip. Better start saving some more.Check out this faultless argument for the scrappage scheme posted on pistonheads. The tax payer puts in no more than £1,000 per car. The rest comes from the manufacturer. From UK government point of view they're hoovering up a load of old clunkers which otherwise would likely fall into the hands of the "no tax, no insurance, no MOT" class of motorist. Those toe-rags cost society well over £1,000 in unpaid taxes, court costs, uninsured accident claims and general hassle. Not to mention the claimed, but debateable, environmental benefits.
Guest Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 That's a pretty compelling argument, I also think they should close down budget supermarkets on the basis that people on benefits will starve, freeing up even more taxpayer money. Why didn't the existing government think of that, eh?

Wow what a terrible argument that person has madea) so because these cars have gone, said toe rag will not cost us anymore? scrappage scheme costs a £1000 more per car to us on top of said toe ragc)from uk government point of view, theyre hoovering up cars they want to see replaced by shiny new ones because it apparently helps our economy....d)for those of us who dont want a new car under the scheme, £1000 of our money to some person who wants a new car only because its cheaper, is ridiculous and not comparable to the amount the manufacturer, who should knock money off if they want to sell new cars during a recession.Car makers couldnt foresee or plan for a recession, so cry for payouts when times get hard.
brammy777 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 haha, i know i was exaggerating! No one foresaw it.I just wish they would learn that lengthening it wont help anymore in the long term, sales will still drop when its over!
FredTransit Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Extending the scheme has got to be the worst news ever. people who NEED to buy cheap cars (cos they can't afford anything else) will suffer, let alone the classics and future classics that are needlessly wasted.....
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 Well, a mint 1995 520i dies tomorrow - going in against a new Volvo. Today I piked the floor mats, unused fag lighter, handbook pack and nowt else. The guy bought it for £17'000 when it was 6 months old and it's done 60'000 miles. It had a full retrim in some very nicer Italian leather 10 years ago, tan trim on a dark blue car.As well as the normal 2 grand, Ovlov also added another £2500 discout making it an £11'500 car. The 520i wouldn't have made more than 500 quid p/x otherwise. Why is it being traded in? Guy wants a smaller car. He asked me "why don't they just park them all up on an old airfield and auction them off?"Probably because they want to throw away £150'000'000 on some pointless eco gesture.
Station Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Not sure if this means he will ultimately get his grisly comeuppance,Crushed to death in a car crushing machine. I'd gladly pay to watch that. I was aware of how corrupt he was in the late 90's, and the fact he has somehow gotten where he is now is bewildering and scary. I hate the big, gay fucking cunt.
