:( Someone's going to hell for this. Let's just hope its parts keep more than one other Dolomite away from the scrapyard.

Just unbelievable....why would you keep a car for 30 years and then trade it in just because the government 'give' you £2k.

What a shame, That's a stunning little Dolly which would of been a fantasic starter classic for someone.

After a brief look on the U-Pull-It site it looks as though the prices have risen a bit. I seemed to remember the average price was around £2-300.. now it seems more like £400...They do have a reasonable offer on the engine removal things though.

Linky not working :? About ten years ago I went to a scrappy in Devon and found a bloody amazing Sprint, it looked nice and shine and the only issues were a tiny bit of bubbling on the A-post and a hole the size of a 50p piece on the rear inner arch, I test drove it and it went absolutely fine but I just couldn't scrape together 250 sovs for it.

they are not saints! You can't use any power tools, and the engine (maybe the gearbox, can't remember) isn't included.

Eh? I wasnt particularly complimenting them but the free engine removal thing isnt bad.

Anyone got a rusty SE and a drill for the chassis plate rivets.....?

Of all the crappage stories, this is the saddest I have heard.Wiki says that 2163 of these were made, Id be amazed if there are more than 10 left.I hope the Dolly owners club is all over this.

Government wants shooting , to allow this to happen is pathetic.:evil::evil::evil:

Im shocked by this, this isnt right.Im sort of relieved someone on the truimph forum has an SE, but it still doesnt make this right at all. Good cars shouldnt be scrapped, this is the exact opposite to what this scheme is meant to do. Im also slightly suprised that no one has attempted to break into one of these premises, im not meaning anyone on here or owners forums, but there is a hell of alot of scrap metal there.Sad though, a good car, once cherished meets its demise through no fault of its own. Im presuming this is further gone than the Riley that was saved, and is thus 99.9 percent impossible to save?'Save the british car industry by scrapping your bangers'Yeh right, scrap a mint example of what was the british car industry for something foreign. Nice move goverment.

I used to know somebody who broke into an RAF compound and rescued a couple of CFs that were to be used as target practice.....No, it wasn't me, though had they have been transits it could have been!

The scheme was only meant to increase new car sales. The government knew full well that it would likely be the 'better' old cars that were taken off the road, not those that should have been anyway. Unfortunately they succumbed all too easily to pressure from the new car retail / manufacturing industry.

Drove past the U Pull It / Copart site in Sandwich yesterday and it is both very secure and also very full! Not the sort of place you'd easily break into and steal a car I wouldn't think.

Nice move goverment.

Indeed! People blame UPI for this when it's not their fault. At least they are offering the parts for sale. The fault lies with both the government for allowing the scheme in the first place and the car owners for scrapping them.

Yeah, I guess as sad as this is, at least with UPI some parts can be salvaged, rather than the thing being cubed,

The Dolomite has been 'sold' - someone is going to get a lot of nice bits for 200 quid. The Cressida is a piece of rubbish, a very tatty car when viewed in the flesh. The dark blue Series 3 XJ6 UPI York have is also rougher than a bears arse.I've bought and stripped 4 cars at UPI now, a very good set up.
