25v6turbo Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUTOCAR-mag-featu ... 286.c0.m14 And here it is.....
Pillock Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 There's a guy on RR got an ex-press Lotus Carlton too, apparently been on Top Gear and stuff. As such I understand that it's pretty fooked, every hack that's been in it has tried a full-bore 0-60 run a few times, cornered on the sidewalls and generally abused it.Journos do not make sympathetic drivers
25v6turbo Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 Yeah the owner told me today that Top gear used one as a pace car, also the old bill wrote 6 off rumour has it.
Station Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 The police used Carlton GSi's. Loads of white ones on ebay.Top Gear, or more specifically Jermemememery Clarkson has a tarnished view about Lotus Carltons as Vauxhall wouldn't give him one (free of charge). Ford then gave him a Sierra Cosworth. What a nonce.

It was. Very much. Mr Needell saw to that. But Ian has spent years rebuilding it including having parts fabricated as they are simply not available. I was lucky enough to get a go in it a while back. My word, it's quite a beast!
Cavcraft Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 My dream car above all others. Ebay seem to have removed the listing though according to the link above.
shite_meister Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I'd love one of these, was offered one about eight years ago but I didn't have 15k, I seem to remember BMW E36 M3s were around the same price at the time and we all know which would've been the better investment. I owned an Ex-Press Rover SD1 Vitesse-one of the first ROE 979Y back when it was just a cheap old barge much like an Omega is to today, the Vitesse was just knackered no doubt helped by every hack nailing the tits off it at every moment, I also had one of those pics in a mag of it cornering on a sidewall, but not this pic:

Yeah it was he I was thinking of..... I probably shouldn't have used the present tense, although it's been years since I was on RR and I think he'd just bought it and stashed it away at the time.Glad to hear it's been brought up to scratch
Barry Cade Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I've driven one about 20 feet..after fitting new rear tyres to it. I've never been so scared in all my life, both with fitting the tyres, and the reputation they had back in the day. Got a good tip from the bloke for not marking the alloys though!
