There's a great Facebook page that posts old photos of Aylesbury and I saw these the other night!

That belonged to a well-known giffer member of the club and was in shall we say 'interesting' condition - take a look at its MOT history for LOLs. He did try to sell it through the club magazine but with a very vague description that claimed it was in good condition, no photos and he could only be contacted by letter. I can't remember the asking price but it was way too much so it's not surprising it didn't sell and ended up there. On the plus side, it had a new V5 not long after this post and is taxed so looks like it escaped the scrappie and got back on the road.

A debutante on the show scene this year - the Autumn Rally was the first event for PRA149K after years in storage.

Er. Too late to be a Maxi. X and Y suffix were the latest with a few A prefix as late registrations.

Mirage. There’s one for sale at auction atm. ;)

My father had an Automatic one back in about 1984 that was in Mirage and remember it being an N plate and I went with him to buy it from some flats just around the corner from Beckenham place park and he paid £300 for it, which for him was a lot of money as normally his cars cost him around £150 and he would normally buy a cheap BMC 1800.

I repainted the new sills for him  and I also repainted some rot in the bottom of the drivers door  with rattle cans, that I bought from the Bromley indoor market cheap, out of a bargain bin and the colour match was perfect.

It was an ultra reliable car and took us on many a holiday, I remember the interior on his being a burgundy cloth, as the back of the rear seat had started to turn to dust due to sun damage and it had the older script on the back and was missing it’s centre grill badge.

He got rid of it when he splashed out and bought a nearly new very low mileage Austin Ambassador VP, which was a major mistake, as it was nowhere near as reliable as the old Maxi.

I learned to drive in HRA751N, it was an HL in I believe tundra. A dark green. My mother made an emergency stop to miss a pack of traveller's dogs and it was rear ended by a Barton bus. It was soon repaired and I drove it regularly. Incredibly thirsty for what it was.

I’ll have to ask my mum if she’s got any photos of the car, in any holiday snaps.

I too learnt to drive in a Maxi. It was a L reg 1500 in Limeflower (useful link about colours above to remind me). None of the colours were exciting in those days! After a Maxi my dad moved onto a 1.3 Allegro (of similar colour).

My friend at Uni, and his dad, were big into Maxis for twenty years. They had quite a collection in Ullesthorpe of 1750's and HL's, with only a few ever running at one time,  and a garage full of spares. I often helped strip, mend, repair and push(!). They were very much into the Autoshite philosophy. Unfortunately neither of them are with us anymore, otherwise they would be along with their experiences and anecdotes. After 20 years they moved onto B3 and B4 Passat estates.

A final reminiscent is the mention of Barton buses, and seeing them roar down the A52 in those days (we were at the Uni in the late '70s).

I saw one a couple of years ago on the A50. Admittedly I was driving my t2, but it was surprisingly fast and left me for dead.

No, sorry. I'd be very surprised if it is still running. It would have been registered in Southampton, and was a 1500 and L reg. The reg may have started TR. That's all I can recall.

Mine was this colour, well this and rust.  Had it from about 18/9 yrs old for about 2years. Hated it, really crap for any street cred at that age.  And being the biggest of my mates cars meant I ended up the nominated driver far too often too being the era that Drink driving became such a big thing.
The fact that these were just about the first of the era of familly 5 door hatchbacks that became the norm for the next 30 years completely missed me at the time.
No pics, that I know of.  Never liked it enough, plus too skint to buy film etc.  Don’t think I’ve a single pic of the Cavalier Sports Hatch that replaced it either, even after I modded it too.
