Nice shite booted Ashtray.

Does anyone recognise this engine?

I thought they only came with the GM Lowblow or the Isuzu Vegtablist.

This looks like neither to me.

That's effectively a Mk2 Cav 1.6D that they enlarged to 1700cc for the Mk2 Astra/ early Mk3.  It was a good plodder until they strapped a turbo onto it and created the dire 'low-blow' (not for increased performance- to get it through emissions tests..)  That example is one of the last 17DR's because it has an EGR valve- oh the decadence

The 2300 was the worst of the bunch, the same fuel economy* as the 2600 with none of the torque, which means this is absolutely BRILLIANT, well done for taking it on.

IIRC, the shorter stroke 2300 was a very sweet free revving lump though and sounds like a BMW straight six, Don't forget, religious engine flushing and very frequent oil changes!

I like these, purely because its the only car that has BELM in the model name.

Talbot Sunbeam 1.0 LS.... Ideal for... KEEPING AS A FUCKING 1.0 LS

Sadly, it will invariably attract stratospheric bids by the rally fanboys. Then it will just be a matter of engine-raping an Eclat to produce a genuine* Lotus Sunbeam, one of 5000* built...

Aye, sad but true. That has about a 5% chance of remaining original.

That photo was either taken under braking, or its carrying a payload of helium in the back.

It's stance m8 stance.
