The Head Gasket went last week and not being a mechanic have decided to let this one go to someone who will restore it back to its original glory.

Yes it will need a very careful look over - no blind bidding on something like this. It's got the wrong bonnet or grille - it's the more attractive V12 vertical bars.

The experts among you will see that it has a V12 radiator grille fitted. This was fitted instead of the original as it was a brand new part. An original grille will be included in the sale

The arch covers may disguise a real mess. I don't mind the wheel so much. One possible real problem are the radius arm mountings at the rear. It is thought the last 'pure' Lyons Jag' with some beautiful design touches. The front 'bucket' seats and dash-layout are classic. I remember the sensation when these came out in the 60's.

It's also got series 3 door mirrors (mounted behind the quarter light!?!?) and appears to have blanking plugs in the wings where the wing mirrors were fitted. There is also a blanking plug next to the aerial. Hmmm...

THat cavalier is ace. I can feel the creaky platic and rubberised choke control in the dash close up...  ah, the memories...

Nah. It's a face lift GL - autochoke on them. (Says the man who had a red 1.6 GL, an early 1.8 CDi auto, an early1.8 SRi and a late 2.0 Calibre but who managed to break that particular mental illness, by also owning 3xmk3 astras, a mk3 cav and a mk4 astra)

prob with those beautiful old jags is that when rot bubbles through on the front and rear bulkhead you just know there is fresh air underneath. and there seems to be some bodgery at the trailing edge of the passenger sill which would have me prodding at the mount. I hate not a lot in life but I do hate the chrome arches

and it has been painted with the screens in, I know that they are a cunt to get out and back in again but... just but.

Reckon that would drive me insane with heartache as I chased the rust out of it

My mate had a burgundy 4.2 H reg S1 back in the mid 1980s and it was a proper shed, the exhaust was mainly bean cans and jubilee clips, went like stink though and drank some too. I recall looking at the trailing arm mounts caked thick with fresh underseal.

BUT, the smell inside, the ker-lunk of the doors and the sound of the starter motor, and all of that is before you floor it on the A3 and watch the fuel gauge moving. Beautiful old duchess it was

V8 lightweight Land Rover for 2 bags BIN - seems quite reasonable by today's standards, although the Q plate might put people off.

This has appeared on my local Gumtree.  I've always fancied one of these, but is it just me or is £550 a bit salty for a car with no test and needing a job that'll no doubt be an absolute twat to do?

That and the fact it hasn't been MOT'd since February 2013, is stuck in gear ands a non-runner. Although those 8 spokes are alloy and worth £1500, apparently.
