Utterly ruined Corsair

 

Even its custodian has given up all hope

 

Someone has bid £800 though but fully expect this to be a little cheeky bid to get things moving by the sellers best mate etc

 

It does have a lot of spares but NO running gear - thats useful then

How nice is the colour! Do not Paint!

It has a nice bit of patina with no structural rust (Marinas were built WAY better in Australia!)

This looks like a really lovely thing that would possibly even pass my magnet test

 

BUT what an utterly GASH colour for it

Something odd about this car, and not just the colour, badges in the wrong place, fresh paint overspray on the inner wings....

 

May be great but I'm not convinced.

Other engines are available, most of them would be more interesting. My choice would have been a 2.9 Jaguar.

Why would anyone do something so monumentally stupid? It was built with a fantastic inline six, somewhere that engine sits, having been discarded as "too dificult" or probably "too expensive" to recondition.

 

Bristol only built 300 or so 405s, that's one utterly ruined.

 

Complete and utter sacrilege. What else have they wrecked?

Opel manta engine is a single cam. I doubt he's binned the engine, I bet it was nicked back in the day when Bristols were less valuable.

The 405s were mercilessly engineraped for roadster and coupe restorations*, that's why nearly none of them still have engines.

It's practically impossible to find those engines, so one must find alternatives. Admittedly better ones than Opel 1800s are available.
