Just had a reply about the Renault 11

 

They have jumped it off another car, it turns over but doesn't fire. Apparently it has been laid up a good few months. They do have a spare battery apparently.

 

Might get a Shiply quote.

Well you have to take a risk in life sometimes :-D ! 

 

I don't mind messing with it on my drive but not in a salvage yard hoping I can get it going so I can drive it home.

 

The Horizon wouldn't fire when I got it, it turned out to be a dirty rotor arm.

 

There are a couple of other french hatchbacks in my sight at the moment so I may pass on this one!

I was looking at this 1000 quid Peugeot 207 diesel on gumtree as Peugeot adverts with noted faults tend to be entertaining. It said ABS fault, that'll probably be a sensor or something right? I googled it and it comes up

"THE DREADED 207 ABS FAULT!!!!!!" all over the results.

It turns out the ABS pump or ABS  ecu can go faulty. There's as much chance of it being one than the other and there doesn't seem to be a way to diagnose what one it it.

Cost to repair? £1500.  If you got it for free it'd still cost you 500 quid.

That's a good point.  Peugeot aren't all bad they built in a self destruct mechanism.
