I remember Buckley expressing some mild depression about his Skoda Octavia TDi having Merc 6.9-rivalling mid range punch.

Yes I think it's a psychological thing with old high performance cars, if I had a 280SE I'd be quite happy pootling around enjoying it for what it is ; a 40 year old antique cruiser. But if I'd spent 10 times as much on a 6.9 I'd want the whole Fangio,Ronin, tyre smoke and ultimate Autobahn warrior thing.probably why I'd be happier finding a 280S manual with MB-Tex and painted hubcaps- and leave the Skoda's to the fast lane .

The real question is why every newfangled piece of shit has to weigh two tons, have the power to outperform 1970s supercars,

need as much fuel as 50s yanks, and still be gouted around in front of me in such a doddererish manner, that the valves soot up in my cars.

That Triumph looks a right peach for £2K, but the car seems to be saying "NAW 3 BIG, surely".

Yoiks!  That Renault 30 is too close to home. Restraint is required but may not work.

That R30 is miles away but restraint required, Never driven a 30 but loved my old 20TS, and those V6 engines are great, I bet that is a real magic carpet of a car. Most desirable!

Those 525e's will do 40mpg on a run. I've had one, it was so, so boring.

Really?

Yes it was really boring. It was a nice car though.
