This Granada has reignited a subject that has caused me great confusion over the years, namely what's the story with the different windows on Mk1 Consul and Granada coupes ?

I always thought that low spec cars had the longer window and only Ghias had the cut off window and vent. This doesn't seem to be the case.

If only we had someone on board that was not only a Granny enthusiast but also a furriner so would have seen them when they were new.........

The difference is whether the rear wing has a "hip swing" or is straight.

The change from rounded to straight came with the 1974 facelift.

So, does that mean some markets kept the Consul badge after the facelift ?

If so it all makes sense now, thanks.

The "hip swing" straightening was made in Spring 1974. The Consul/Granada integration into only Granada commenced on German built models after the 1975 Summer holidays.

So in the LHD area, you could buy a straight hipped Consul "Fastback" (it was officially never called "Coupe" there) for over a year.

Whether it was the same for Ford Dagenham, I know not.
