In one of those 'no real reason' moments I'd love to roll round in one of these.

For about 10 years my dad punted one of these between Bertone in Turin and Longbridge loaded with hoods for R8's,MGF's,Metro's and Mini's. He reckons some of those hoods never went faster than when he popped the limiter fuse when he was a bit delayed on the way home. Now he's retired,I'd love to buy this and take it to his house in Brittanny to use as a garden guest annexe- he'd love it

Has there ever been a car that didn't look great on Minilites?

No.

So often the Minilites are just there for the photo and are not included in the sale.

Wouldn't it be great to buy that and cut it right down to make a Saxon replica?

That stretch Cortina must weigh quite a lot more than standard, good job it's got a lusty 2.8 V6 to get it moving.

Personally,I'd have liked to see a servo, but then I'm a bit of a wuss.

Yes that's a good example of how not to do a Cafe Racer!

I think the basic formula today is as follows:

1. Find shit old bike

2. Take half the parts off

3. Cut the mudguards down

4. Fit cheap set of wank Ace bars and naff fairing

5. Sell for 5 times the real value of the machine in standard condition

Here's an example that had years of thought and craftsmanship lavished on it.

A snip at $3000/£2000:

Other 'styles' are the same sort of concept. Basically a stolen recovered or crashed bike then remove the broken bits, paint the remainder matt black, put cheap shit twin front and rear lights, and Hey Presto! a street fighter.

I had one of these back in the early 90s and loved it.

It was a 'binary car' - it could either pootle about at very low speeds or roar like a grizzly bear, with absolutely nothing useable inbetween. Numerous rolling-road tunes would make if more flexible, but only for about 100 miles or so.

Anyhow, on initial viewing this one looks nice. Modified, but still nice:

His car, his rules and all that, but I reckon he's fucked that Nova adding all that crap. Advertising the original engine seperately seems a bit of a piss take too, but it's his to do with what he wants.

I passed over what was (at the time) a cheap Sport as I thought it was a home made thing and I'd not heard of them before. Still regret that, but there you go.

I bet there are a lot of Vauxall enthusiasts doing a massive facepalm at that barried up Nova, what a twit

I've just looked at it again and I'm getting angrier.

He's completely missed the sodding point of the car - IT'S A HOMOLOGATION, YOU PENIS!

Posted

Fair play to him though he kept the original motor so understood someone might want to put it back to standard. There's nothing he's done that can't be undone.

Posted

Yeah, but it's a bit like getting a Lotus Carlton or RS3100 Capri and lobbing a RED TOP, YO in it instead. Some things are better left untouched IMHO.

Posted

It's not a Sport anymore, It's just a normal chaved up Nova with a red top like any other you saw 10 years ago.

Posted

quite apart from the ethics of turning a rare Nova sport into a generic barried-up spaz cart, those ludicrous italicised number plates scream 'HEY EVERYONE, I AM A MASSIVE BELL END'

^Isn't that the ex-Panhard65 motor, late of this parish?

Yeap it was mine the guy I sold it to has changed jobs and needs a van so he told me. Which is why it's back on the market. I am sure he would of mentioned it if anything major had gone wrong. Just after I sold it I had loads of people ringing up moaning that they had missed it so maybe he will get a sale. (and a decent profit at that price) I sold it for £895
