Hmm. The convertible and cosmetic "enhancements" are undoable leaving an pretty cheap to run everyday classic. If only there wasn't another more wonderfully practical diesel machine available at the moment..

These must be getting quite uncommon now.  Early Vectra B with the 1686cc Isuzu TD lump.  Can't imagine this would be particularly quick, but it should be reliable and nom the veg.

Wot engine would that have?

Transit?

2.5 Peugeot, available in both turbo and na. Transit engine was later, think badge changed to LDV at same time.

2.5 Peugeot Indenor.  A slightly bigger and marginally more powerful version of the engine in Brookjm's 504.

That one is somewhat overpriced.

You reckon? For a cheap big van with long MOT it's cheaper than a smiley. Looks dead clean too

I actually like this.

You could pretend to Joss Ackland in lethal weapon 2, drive with the window down shouting "diplomatic immunity."

It's just been revoked!

A smiley will be infinitely better to drive than a 400 though, and easier to get bits for.  That one is tidy for an old LDV though, I'll grant you.

My guess would be the orange David 'Bobby Dazzler' Dickinson: 'Cheap as chips!'

Incorrect. Peugeot engines lasted beyond the LDV change, and were still under the bonnet when the 400 became the Convoy. After a few years, the Tranny engines took over. I much prefer the old Peugeot slogger.

I stand corrected, wasn't sure when the LDV badge first appeared.

I prefer the Peugeot engine in some ways - it's simpler, and it has preheat so a lot easier to start on a cold day.  It is diabolically sluggish though - even the TD version is far from quick.  I timed my turbo'd 400 from 0-60 once - it took 27 seconds.  Compare that to the smiley Transit 190 TD I owned at the same time, which would do it in 18.5.  My non-turbo Pug-engined Convoy took 36.5 - the third slowest 0-60 run of any vehicle I've owned, after the Ligier Ambra and the Dodge 50.

That 75 tourer looks nice. Bit of a gamble with it not starting though.
