You've just described any old car. How many gearboxes has your P6 eaten?  At least with BMW you can go to the dealer and they chances are they'll be able to find the part for you.

Old cars are expensive. I just spent £27 on a tiny plastic speedo drive for a Cortina, 7 quid for a 80p core plug and so on.

Having said all that the v12 is a horror if it goes wrong.

Some 90s or Noughties chod is nowhere near an 'old car' where I'm concerned, it's newfangled tosh.

And yes, I had better cars than my possessed Rover of d00m, and know many P6 V8 owners that have more typical owner experiences with theirs, than I have with mine.

The remedy would be to ceremoniously destroy it in a pagan ritual and buy another one, but that would be admitting defeat.

However, BMWs consistently puking expensive stuff is consistent with my own BMW ownership experience and with a single exception, my BMWs weren't old when I owned them.

A V12 Bimmer is as tempting as the next V12, but for sheer shiteness, Führerwagenness, I'mbetterthanyouness, and Iownthebloodyroadness, I'd prefer this any day:

Trouble with V12s is that they're unnecessarily complicated, don't really go any better than a V8 of similar capacity, and you don't get the slightly uneven wondrous soundtrack that accompanies the V8 to make its thirst worth having, V12's don't sound gruff enough.

That's your personal taste, but it's not mine.  I'd take the sound of a V12 over a V8 any day of the week, especially if it's a flat-plane V8.  I prefer the sound of an engine whose number of cylinders is a multiple of an odd prime.

The EML light on that Merc will burn so brightly that it'll eventually go super-nova, turn into a black hole and the whole car will just disappear into time and space.

I do like it though especially at sub 2 grand.

That Rebel is dangerously not far from me. Fortunately, I think I am mostly cured of the need to buy every desperate old shitheap that comes my way.

I like that dolomite. Why are more things not fitted with that mx-5 engine it's reliable, cheap and pretty powerfull?

Older and newer BMW's get a lot of slating on here and I am now thinking I have been majorly lucky with the three BMWs Ive owned and maybe I should sell my current E46 pretty damn quick before its goes wrong. Perhaps that is why Ive never won the lottery because all my good luck is used up with the cars I buy? I dunno.

However, the best/most reliable car I have ever known of was a 1990 Toyota Previa 2.4 Petrol, a mate had one for many years, over 200k and it just kept going and never broke down once, I wouldnt mind but he didnt even look after it !!!

The metal on that XJ6 Coupe looks paper thin.

And thin 80gsm not 100gsm either!

Why didn't they carry on making coupé versions of the later XJs?

I'm sure these are quite dreadful, but it's almost tempting to buy one and shove it up the loft for 30 years as a collectable of the future, like I wish I'd done when they were selling Sinclair C5s off for £99. Although in 30 years time I'll be long dead and by then the remaining population will probably be bashing each other over the head with clubs whilst fighting over the last scraps of food, so probably best not to bother.

Because they were stupid and had no taste

In terms of cc per £ you'd struggle to beat this

Probably a bit steep, a black 750i 1990 with 10 months test made £1045 on Ebay last week, I was 2nd highest bidder.... I went to see a 1989 750iL near me on Ebay, parked for ages, no t and t, made £510 but more work than I cared for. Also last week.

I look forward to seeing your injuries. What do you recon it's classed as? I guess you'd get into bother using it on the street?

no idea about the bike, but i suspect the local dibble would frown on me hoofing it through the pedestrian shopping centre in a cloud of fumes.

first thoughts were barbq and wheelie bin. I can't help but think that motorising them would improve my life imeasurably
