'THIS IS THE "NEW CLASSIC" CAR'

It's a new class of fucking awful, that's what it is.

'Sometimes, when I'm with my son in the car, I could even hear the children saying to their parents - "Wow !!! mummy (or daddy) look at this beautiful car (or even some of them say gorgeous car)".

It's a good job Hans Christian Andersen is dead, you'd have blown him out of the water writing bollocks like that.

Might do.

Actually I'm looking for something post-1986 to replace the irritating and uncomfortable modern BMW for motorway duties. Currently a 1991 R129 300SL-24 is making eyes at me. Or an Alfa Brera. Or maybe an NSU Ro80. So who knows, really.

A Brera 3.2 Q4 is pure porn.

Pump leak will be a £1000 rebuild ( I have the receipt), bodywork probably a couple of thousand, plus the unknown subframe and sills. There never was such a thing as a cheap cx unfortunately.

Oh dear, I accidentally forgot to post that up earlier in case someone else bought it.

a chap at work has one of these. which is lovely EXCEPT for the whole length of the bottom of the passenger door been covered in rust blebs.

the whole length of the bottom of the door, maybe a 1/2 inch or so up into the door panel.

i cannot remember what reg it is, 06 maybe? so its 10 years old but still younger than the Rover, and i didn't expect to see rust like that again on a car, especially not a "new" one. and while, yes, i realise that this car is italian, but even so.... i thought that they would have had the whole rust thing licked by now.

Mick is a real believer too, as his wife has a Mito while he drives the other Alfa!

a lot of the time stuff like that is the result of a  previous accident repair.

Must agree 100%, I'm pretty confident a car of that value would be fully galvanised and the brera seems very rust resilient.

Probably painted without an air dryer inline causing microblisters then turning to rust.

due to the presence of several LS400's i've actually taken to looking properly at what is around to but, with real money!

not that anything is wrong with the Rover save shagged droplinks (again) and i think front wishbone bushes (again) and also the fact that i've owned the Rover for 18 months.

but, this is in Scunthorpe, has not got silly miles on it (110K) and is for sale for £995, which is the right sounding price.

and its a nice colour too.

plus the mot history is also pretty clean, only one that stood out was a fail a vouple of years ago for the ABS light been on.

no mention of corrosion, which is nice.

Oooossshhhh I like that Carlton. Anyone remember when they came out? It sticks in my memory as a BIG DEAL although I was only 12 at the time. I remember getting my regular pre-ordered copy of Autocar from the newsagents and soaking up all the intel.

I was even into shite cars as I child. I seem to recall being more excited when the Metro went to five doors.

I think it was about 1986 as I worked in a Vauxhall main dealers when they launched it. They made a big thing about ACT advanced chassis technology. Which was supposed to make them handle really well. The advert demonstrated it against a "normal" car which if I remember rightly was an NSU RO80. I also remember the GL had no end of trouble with wheel trims falling off, we sold hundreds of them.
