Invacar MK12 - New owner Mrs 6Cyl

Oh bloody DVLA, once again it may be worth calling at a different time to see if you might get someone who knows what they are dealing with

interesting that they want the club to do the V765, reading the documentation for it etc, looks like part of that your supposed to fill out on your own...

will Simon Mckeown be able to do anything? because Stuart is still listed as "the guy" according to the DVLA

I may gently approach stuart about it all, but I know this is the kind of thing he does not want to do anymore

Don't worry LBF - I've given Simon my phone number, and I'm hopeful he will call me, especially now I've 'proven my worth' for want of a better phrase by supplying him the ICR with those Essex records I sent you.

Congrats on tracking down the old registration.

However, as the Welsh have explained, I'd say it's going to be difficult to retain it. I've seen plenty of old vehicles which have been off the road for years to the point that their paperwork drops off DVLA records. Even though they're still physically wearing their original plates, unless there's something like a tax disc or other piece of paper directly linked to the registration, it's likely the plate won't be reassigned.

Yes, they asked about tax disc or old MOT. Some hope!

Cool :) yeah stuart said something similar to me a while back about me "proving my worth" and that there are things that I figured out in months that took him 15 years to figure out, nice little ego boost that if you dont mind me saying so

well we know the Essex people have the actual registration documents for it when Eggs Mk12c was new, surely that would be good enough to tie the plate to the car?

the fact that it is not registered with the DVLA does beg the question

Just How long was it sitting in that yard for?!

Yes, the original registration archive and the chassis plate should be sufficient to get the reg back, but it will need to be inspected and approved by a club DVLA rep who will then forward the paperwork to them.

Doesn't the FBHVC have a role in helping retain original VRNs when there isn't an owners club or the owners club cannot/will not help?

ohh thats not a bad shout :) love the Routemaster picture you get when you click on the link

If you reregistered the vehicle, would it get an age related plate or a Q-plate?

an age related plate most likely, AFAIK it would be treated the same way if you imported a car from a different country etc

If the relevant club doesn't exist or is miles away, it's suggested that a closer club on the list could assist.

Funny rules the bunch in Swansea have sometimes.

I can sort of understand it iif the registration is dateless and might have a value on the open market, e.g. FHS1, Fibreglass Heap Shite that also appeals to Frank Harold Smiff who has been looking for his number for years. But a suffix F plate that no fekker is interested in other than for its original allocation, really ?

Good luck with your efforts, it will be nice to see it sitting on its original plates. I fekkin hate the blue things, but admire those who pull the things together as they are a part of our motoring history and a timely reminder how fortunate able bodied folk are and that's when we were chaufered to school in comfort, some folk had to rely upon one of these 'machines' just to get by in life.

I seem to recall, that when a number Is reallocated / issued it becomes non transferable anyway.

That is true.

Thanks all for the support!

You can appreciate that the number of MK12's with their original plate is vanishingly small. 37 remaining models known, and for example I know the 7 owned by the ICR don't have original plates. So, I think it is worth the ongoing effort.

Wow that's clean, does Stuart know the chassis number, or do I need to ask 'em?!

Good finds.

The guy who owns the running and driving Invacar has sent me a PDF of the user manual (for the 12e, but close enough!). Here are some extracts, yes LBF - I will send you the whole doc!

It includes a wiring diagram, that will be helpful.

That's a bit of an arrogant 'personal message from the MD.

Quite shocking really, but maybe typical of attitudes towards the disabled at the time.

I'm glad we seem to have moved on (at least a bit) from then!

Yes, but... If *FORD put that covering letter into sales packs for shiney new Diesels (5 years ago) we would be laughing at a postscript "... Sad, though, you are now in posession of an unsellable turkey!".

*other scrappage scheme beneficiaries are included ;)

Interesting point Andy, I didn't particularly read it that way - I thought is was more typical of how things were written generally 50 years ago.

very cool find I thoroughly enjoyed reading that manual :) (and thank you for sharing the full copy with me)

that wiring diagram will definitely come in handy

its amusing how the Mk12 has more fuses then a Model 70

(it also has a blower motor which a Model 70 does not have, interest to note that other villiers machines had the same motor including ACs own Model 67, so I wonder why they decided to omit it for the Model 70)

yeah I too didn't think the personal message was too bad, keep in mind the person who ran the show at Invacar, was himself severely disabled

it would be interesting to see what the Model 70 users manual says, I know DW has a copy, im pretty sure His is a DHSS copy just given to users, so i wonder if its even more basic.

Yes, the blower motor is on my short term list for removal (I haven't been able to get to the car for what, 2-3 weeks now :-().

It's a Smiths job, I expect there will be refurb guides on the old' interweb.

I would have been doing this already, but it is attached to the floor, and hence heavily rusted in place!

It looks very similar to that on Wobbler's Fox.

From 30 seconds in you will see a bit of 2 stroke smoke! :-)

Posted

haha very cool :)

when you said 2 stroke, I knew I should of been expecting a Mk12

but when it finally popped into shot I still chuckled and grinned to myself  "JWC883C" too, explains the previous shot of it with the scarf around it, I wonder where that one is from/what its story is, its in very nice shape

also love the shots of RML3 (Routemaster leyland in this case not Routemaster lengthened) going round the track too :)

(I also love of all the 2 strokes there, the Mk12 is the one belching out the most Blue smoke LOL)

Well, apparently that is JBY503J - as the owner sent me the link, I'm confused?

as in he told you it was JBY503J?

because the Mk12 in the video is wearing plates JWC883C

if it is JBY503J do you know why he stuck it on JWC883C plates? was it just a jab at the picture of the one on fire, or to fit in with the 1966 or older theme?

I've just asked him for clarity! I should be visiting him soon.

I have just got another copy of the MK12e manual - for 70/71 model year rather than 69/70 from a separate source.

I've sent to Dez, who I'm sure will spot any differences...!
