I thought a door had been located?

A possible source of a door is known, but it might be a little expensive, so keeping my options open!

think worst case you could make a door shaped sheet of ally and a frame to rivet it to , maybe minus the window frame unless your skills extend that far

can always be working on a better version at your leisure once the car is completed

Didn't someone offer to rebuild the engine earlier on in the thread? Get them on it, see if someone else can do a bit of A pillar GRP work for cake and coffee, and celebrate the achievements with thoughts of a door. Any other order seems crazy.

Oh, hang on...

All totally agreed, above... Overthinking it *can be bad 4 mojo*

When you are 'all done' on the really complex bits - eg. ALL of it!...

The door will be nowt (bendy ally-rivetty-gutteringtrim-dexion -skateboardbearings.. sortta)

Keep it Up ;)

In the end it's a fun* project to get a man middle-aged before his time out of the house, with the side effect of saving a piece of rare social history (V5 dependent)

All good, innit?

Gives you lot something to have a look and laugh at too.

want some more?

I tried to pour some oil in the cylinder.

post-20084-0-53321100-1551541120_thumb.jpg

That went well.

However, I haven't told you about this piece of metal, wood and fibreglass combined.

Full of snails.

post-20084-0-87082900-1551541047_thumb.jpg

I cleaned and straightened it out (mainly bending by hand!) as best I could.

post-20084-0-37833800-1551541259_thumb.jpg

Then. I balanced it where it came from.

Yes, it is part of the a-pillar! Bonus.

But, then I made the cardinal sin - NEVER lift the rubber mats on 60's British chod. That's structural.

post-20084-0-40779300-1551541369_thumb.jpg

However, I could jack it up on the centre chassis beam - but....no way are my axle stands getting under without tipping the thing over. But, I did get the wheel off for a look and then put it back on again (useful).

(No it doesn't turn).

Then I stood and stared into space for 15 minutes. Then I came home (picking up a proper little oil can on the way - next time oil in cylinder :-0)

easy fix on the pillar

something lighter like diesel or penatrant oil would better down the bore...oil is too thick

Not WD-40, either.

Plus Gas or Duck Oil (or similar).

No V5 yet. Wheels don't turn. Basically hopeless. Don't spend money, remember?

What are these then?

post-20084-0-39906000-1551884703_thumb.jpg

They are 5 new old stock Goodyear 4.40 R12 tyres made in England my good fellow. They also happen to be the exact tyre type currently on the vehicle. Remarkably good condition.

I took a wheel and tyre to my favourite local tyre place, who said 'you need inner tubes matey'. So they are getting them for me for Friday.

I put some diesel in the cylinder this time too...

nice find on the tires :)

are you sure they need inner tubes?, IIRC TWC has the same wheels as your Mk12 and DW got away without tubes, however he is using Michelin X tyres so not sure if that affects anything

I think DW might have some inner tubes kicking around however :) (I know he mentioned he ordered some, then in a later video said he didn't need them, but i dont know if he got them in, or if he just cancelled his order for them)

The tyres are a good find but despite their good condition be ready for poor grip if they are very old.  Tyre places always tell me that my Reliant's crossply tyres need tubes - something to do with the wheel profile.  The Owner's Handbook says 'tubeless 520x13.'  It probably makes little difference either way on a lightweight three wheeler that is not used every day, though many tubeless tyres have a quite coarse inner surface which can scuff through a tube surprisingly quickly on a heavier vehicle.

I hope the diesel and oil down the bore eventually releases the piston.  If it does, go gently so as to avoid breaking the rings, just in case the unit is salvageable.  Good progress so far.  Sod the logic of attacking 'important bits' first.  Sometimes you need to do jobs that CAN be done so that morale is boosted.

The tyres weren't horrendously expensive, and could be re sold I think. I got the five delivered for less than the purchase price of 2 new ones from Longstone tyres.

Agree about grip, but I'll not be driving this car like Zel or Wobbler, realistically it will need to tootle on the back road between Herne Bay and Whitstable, on warm, dry days. What a treat if I get that far.

Love the light knowledge!

The guy was insistent about inner tubes despite me having doubts, they're a good tyre place who I essentially trust, so went with it.

Would certainly tube them, but remember that any punctures are going to equal instant blow out, rather than slowly deflating over a few days.

oh and the tyre seller, used to mess around with an invacar he had in his local fields when he was a teenager!

No LBF, he doesn't have any pics (I did ask!)

I appreciate that you did think of me and ask

(I just realised, I have no idea what sort of tyre pressures a Mk12 asks for... closest I have is for the Model 70)

what we really need is a invacar Mk12 workshop manual or such

I wonder if PlasticVanDan has one? If not...maybe Stuart still has one?

I know they exist...

Yeah iv seen that photo too

not sure what they mean by instruction manual in this case

I know the Model 70 has 2 manuals one that looks like it was given to the user, and just contains basic info

and then another whos front cover iv never seen, which seems to be some sort of service guide/shop manual that goes into great detail about a lot of things

ill stick it on the list of questions to ask stuart about :)

edit: just noticed this is my 1337th post

Just catching up on this - massive win on the A-pillar front, that must be a major relief.

It's only balancing there for now, but does give some structure to build resin and fibreglass around. Getting the angle of the pillar right will be key to ensure the windscreen fits. Of course, the angle also will have an impact on any future door too.

Ball bags! but I also call bollocks to that

maybe ring up and also include some pictures?

because you have the damn car so it WAS on the system at some point, I wonder if the DVLA do have it somewhere but with a typo or something?

(did they return the cheque to you at least? :) )

are you able to post a picture of the V62? (with the personal details hidden of course) maybe someone might spot some "obvious" mistake or something?

Blast.

ICR as a next step?

they have not been much use recently sadly...

(but if they ever play ball, egg should at least be able to get an age related plate via a dating letter etc)

if all else fails, since that Model 70 Im chasing up seems to have the ID of a mk12, maybe we could do some elaborate ringing? (actually get the Q plate reversed for that chassis number so its original registration comes back etc)
