I'm still trying to work out how to pronounce Ssangyong. Are you supposed to stammer the Ss like Phil C?

No,that's about the end of the can. So that's it.

The correct phonetic way to pronounce Ssangyong is:

*Sassangey-Jhong* - but you have to say it out of one side of your mouth like Salt Bae saying "Avacado"

It's been mostly quiet on the Rexton front but one large step forward has been ticked off the list of things to do.

When I got the car, the 4x4 was not engaging when you pressed the dash buttons for 4H or 4L.

With timid aspirations for remedial level off roading and greenish lane bothering, this would not do.

A bit of direction from @Out Run saw me off to AliExpress to order some manual freewheel front hubs. I clicked on the SLOW BOTE FROM CHINA option....

Some tools were assembled and then 10 mins of one spanner Haynes difficulty level work unfurled.

With hubs engaged, 4wd should now work.

Sadly, there are as still no drive to the front wheels.

We scratched our heads for a bit and decided that there wasn't really much to be wrong (other than me over greasing the hubs)  so we popped them off at the side of the road and tried reassembly with the selector switch in the engaged position.

And guess what.

It only bloody worked. 4x4 now functioning.

Only tried it on a very tame local hill, but all seems functioning A1 5x5.

Next plans are for a lift and first some decent all TERRY IAN tryres.

It's a good bus this. I really like it.

As said before, it doesn't do anything great but it has a go at everything without complaint.

What more could you ask for from an obscure daft shit old car?

As it was performing well, I treated it to a posh wash and some hilarious decals.

It scrubs up well.

Good work man. Think the working 4wd will help at Crail? You'll need another showdown with @rml2345 to find out...

It might help if they move the drag strip 20 meters to the left and we race up that wet field past the bait van to the chemical toilet trailer.

May as well select 4L. I doubt it will change the MPH, at the line. 😅

If history is any reasonable indication, it'll be for sale some time in the next eleven months.

Some pics of the high up countryside from an afternoon delivery mission.

Even under the clouds, it's a far better place to be than at work.

There's benefits and drawbacks of running a daft old car on 100% veg oil .

One of the benefits is that fuel is 30p a litre. Handy in today's topsy turvy financial climate.

One of the drawbacks is that it's difficult to "fill up" by yourself. Meaning you have to rope the missus in to hold the funnel, then the wind gusts the stream splatter of oil across her face and you laugh so much that you can't control the 21 litre container properly and you pour further veg oil all over her arm.

This is of course, bad for your health.

So I stole @Out Runs great idea and set up a one man pouring operation.

I dont have a drill, but I got a C+ at improvising at school.

You'll do.

Y tho.

Whazzed a couple of speed holes in my BIG FUN-EL and bolted some big magnets on.

IMG_20220618_121425213.thumb.jpg.acd7b5c403abd2ea6edcf861d9cfb176.jpg

Y Tho.

That looks very sticky.

Stickingit to the radiator showed how good the magnets were. Felt like the plastic funnel was going to snap trying to remove it from the rad. I might need something to pry it away from the body of the car.

IMG_20220618_124441494.thumb.jpg.9bd87d3b51176f23712fe65762c9018d.jpg

As it turned out, the bodyline of the car curving away meant that just the bottom of the magnets were touching metal so they held solid but pulled away easily .

One man mobile filling station achieved.

Holds firm and works an absolute treat. Makes filling up a doddle.
