Can anyone explain how WGU18G passed its MOT yesterday and is registered correctly?

Possibilities:

1) The various theories espoused by interested parties here and elsewhere are wrong, and the car has simply been lurking in a lockup somewhere for 30 years.

2) Number 'WGU 18G' has been reunited with Ford Galaxie.

3) Someone broke into the DLVC computer and has been doctorin' the hard-disc.

Maybe it’s had a “ghost” MOT so the plate can be transferred.

I've just ordered my new tour shirt, but I'm struggling to find out where to buy tickets. Has anyone on here managed to get any?

It is rather confusing how Timelord
A) got a V5C in 2021 (and 2022)

B.) Was taken off SORN multiple times sinc ethen

C) Is now taxed and MOT'd for 2025/26.

I have spoke to Jimmy Cauty recently but he's been vague when I asked about Timelord. Which implies he has no clue himself, or something's up for this year's Toxteth?

I Hope I am wrong of course but that MOT is not giving me good vibes!, vehicle is still registered to somewhere in NI, but its had a DVSA British MOT, I have a strong feeling its a Telephone MOT, done so someone can rob the number off the "vehicle" (since the DVLA require that any historic vehicle have a current MOT to rob one of its number)

the only other explanation is if someone in NI really did have WGU18G but sent it away to somewhere in England/Scotland/Wales for restoration work and the restoration shop MOT'ed it after doing the work?

Hang on....a lot of the original research in this thread was done by @Datsuncog, and he's in NI - don't tell me he's secretly found the thing and bought it!

I wonder if someone has found another 1968 Galaxie and put the plate on that, creating an indistinguishable clone of the real Timelord? Any ' 68 model would no doubt be fairly easy to find.

However, I guess we will never know if the real Timelord was also a September car because if so, that then makes the chances of making an exact clone almost impossible and could lend a lot of weight to what we see on the DVLA site being the original car.

Also...looking back in the thread, I've remembered that Cauty said in an interview that he "took the doors, the boot and the bonnet off the first Galaxie and swapped them and the number plates onto a second one".  We know the second one was banger raced at Swaffham, and looking at the pics of the Galaxie laid up on Jimmy's driveway (the one we had the discrepancies over the dates they were taken) it only appears to be the side door that is a perfect match for the pics from Swaffham.

I reckon the laid-up car on the driveway is the first one and not the one that got raced, so does that indeed still exist?

..a second one

I missed that bit! I thought the second one was a later Ford LTD? I remember @Datsuncog spoke to Bill Drummond and he said 'there were two' but I just thought he meant the LTD.

So there are or were 2 '68 Galaxies?

Yes there were two, according to Drummond.  The LTD was this 1971 car, which they only owned for a short while and which later got sold to a member of Jesus Jones.

i do like that this has popped up again, it is odd there are zero advisories on a 68 car tho - unless its had a thorough restoration/ overhaul?

That was the conclusion I came to, especially as the laid-up car had no numberplates which ties in with Cauty's claim he transferred them to the red one, and the one that was raced did have plates. Nobody seems to know what happened to it after he moved out of Trancentral so there's a chance it still exists and somebody has been having it restored in secret. Wasn't Flinton Chalk dropping cryptic hints about the return of Timelord not long ago?

wasnt the raced car wearing the pyramid blaster doors and klf 'hood'?

would the 68 galaxie stuff interchange with 71 LTD stuff easily? or at all? i am no expert on yank stuff, but know they do like tweaking the models per year (unlike bmc that used the landcrab doors for almost three decades) or shall i throw into the thunderdome the theory of another car potentially being added in

It was yes.  There were two '68 Galaxies and the doors, boot and bonnet, according to Jimmy, were taken off the first one and swapped onto a second Galaxie.  The '71 LTD was a completely separate car and wasn't raced, it was sold to Jesus Jones and possibly ended up with a couple of other owners in the music biz.

that makes a lot more sense. also after the resurgence of this thread i was happy to find this parked next to me when i came out of work yesterday!

just emailed myself the pic i took on phone to upload lol
neither a galaxie or ltd, but i think appropriate! it is a local car - have seen it a few times not managed to say hello to the owner yet,

Slightly off topic (and slightly morbid) but I was listening to the Chillout album yesterday and in one of the songs there's a news report about someone getting killed in a car crash playing in the background of one of the songs.

After a few attempts at the spelling the lads surname I found this:

Jack Atsidakos - Newspapers.com™

Jack Atsidakos

A quick lookup of his older brother confirmed that the business closed down last year too sadly.

Greek-owned Lindencrest Diner Closes After 39 Years - The National Herald

and then a further look for the dead lads name found other people who had done the same and looked him up (the internet makes you realise, you've never had an original thought) and even more morbidy they'd managed to find the kids yearbook photo for us to gawp at 38 years after the kid died.

So there you are. Some fairly horrific,  loosely related, KLF and car content.

I thought that was a ficticious sample!

Good album that, Tuvan throat singing and all!

It was intended to be what Bill thought a journey through the deep south of the US would sound like.

A version of it without all the unauthorised samples is on Spotify as Come Down Dawn.

I don't know what Dawn has climbed up that they need her to get down from though. Its not apparent in any of the songs. A ladder? The stairs? The Price is Right?

This '71 Ford, JLE 67K, was a known car on the Surrey custom and classic scene, and was possibly bought as a replacement for the swiss-cheese Galaxie. However, apparently the new car wouldn't run right and other than the Beatmasters video, it seems to have had very few public appearances. Consequently, around March 1989 the LTD was sold for £500 as a non-runner to Simon 'Gen' Matthews, the drummer in the band Jesus Jones, who brought a tame mechanic along when he went to pick it up.

The mechanic simply swapped the HT leads round the right way, and the LTD's big V8 fired straight up. Cauty then expressed doubts about whether he now wanted to let the car go, but Matthews reminded him that the deal had been done.

1416892025_KLF1972Ford1.jpg.2fdd3a69f5c2f498664b9ebfa06fae9f.jpg

981008656_KLF1972Ford2.thumb.jpg.f198b25ae8c4766bbcf656b4592c4977.jpg

Matthews then used it for hooning round London, and although he enjoyed the attention it quickly transpired that this car was also very, very rotten. With Jesus Jones' star in the ascendant following the success of their single Info Freako, Matthews found himself on tour or in the studio all the time, recording their debut LP Liquidiser. With limited time or energy to work on it, the '71 Ford ran out of MOT and sat outside a friend's house for a year or so, deteriorating further.

As far as Matthews can recall, he agreed to its disposal since it was simply in the way, and the LTD was sold on to persons unknown while he was out of the country. It was last taxed in 1993, and quite possibly no longer exists.

1510168669_KLF1972FordLTDJLE67K-DVLA.thumb.png.a2648cfba0948bea96d6537577fb4072.png

Matthews recalls that Cauty contacted him a few months after he'd sold him the Ford LTD, around mid/late 1989, asking if he could borrow it back since the Ford Custom was now a non-runner. Matthews cheerfully declined. So that seems to square with the idea that the original Ford Timelord ultimately became borked.

Bit sideways to the main topic, but just got recommended the video to Sultans Of Ping's 'Where's Me Jumper?', and the YouTube thumbnail jumped out at me:

It's only visible for two seconds (1m38s - 1m40s) but I'm pretty certain that this police-painted Ford LTD is JLE67K, the 1971 car briefly owned by Jimmy Cauty in 1988/89 and then sold on to Gen Matthews of Jesus Jones.

KLF Fords x2.jpg

Stills cribbed from the Sultans Of Ping vid:

Ford_LTD_JLE67K_Sultans_of_Ping_video.jpg.5adcda16d17f512d29cb13282a49ade9.jpg

Ford_LTD_JLE67K_Sultans_of_Ping_video_2.jpg.57a412d8d5ce6162356b03851927ce3e.jpg

It's not exactly HD quality, but the thin whitewall tyres and chromed rims look identical to pics taken when the car was in Matthews' ownership in the early '90s, as is the positioning of the six-pointed star.

KLF 1972 Ford 1.jpg

KLF 1972 Ford 2.jpg

I'm aware that Sultans Of Ping F.C. (as they styled themselves at the time of the video) were from Cork, but it appears they recorded part of their debut album at Greenhouse Studios in Shoreditch in 1991 - and the video to 'Where's Me Jumper?' looks rather more like it was shot in London than Cork.

We know that JLE was knocking around London in the custody of various musicians and their friends in the early 1990s - so it seems not implausible for this KLF-affiliated car to have made a brief cameo in this video.

Anyway, as you were.

That certainly looks like JLE to me. A random thought occurred - if JLE 67K had been registered only slightly later there's a chance it could have ended up with a KLF registration - both LE and LF being London issues and KLF-K was definitely issued.
