Does it have the 'learning' function like the box in the e60s where it adapts to driving style? You can reset those:)

Not sure if it does or not - it’ll be more like a E39 than an E60 I’m sure.

Its the notorious GM 5 speed box also found in the L322 Range Rover

When it learns the most annoying way possible to shunt it's way through the gears?

“We’ve just noticed the drivers window regulator is hanging on by a thread, would you like it sorted whilst it’s here?”

Not at £300 I wouldn’t :D

Good grief do they intend to replace the door?

I've driven four automatic Omegas. Three of them behaved perfectly normally, changing in a civilised manner etc. The one that@Supernaut collected though was weirdly different, like it was stuck in permanent 'Sport' mode. Kicked down if you breathed a little on the throttle.

I swear the ECU or whatever the brains were of the gearbox had been reset before being hooned everywhere, basically programming the 'box to behave a certain way all the time.

That’s parts and labour. A genuine regulator isn’t cheap.

I’ve ordered one for £16.99 on eBay.

I have the GM 5 spd box as well. I had my g/box ecu updated - it had to have a complete software update by the Indy. It gave it a far smoother performance afterwards. Took a good few hours to do apparently.

Interesting stuff, we’ll see what it drives like when it returns - I didn’t know that was a possibility for its tardiness.

It’s back.... and my wallet’s a lot fucking lighter

Seems far more oil-continent now! Gearbag is a little bit smoother but not all that much, really. Hopefully extended it’s life if nothing else.

Just been for a longer drive - the box is definitely improved. I wonder if changing just the fluid (not the filter etc) a couple more times would be worth doing

Glad you've got it back now.

Can't advise on the box issue, my 75 JATCO KICKIN YO one is basic but changes smoothly. It's a replacement box, the old one was reportedly very harsh and had metal shavings in the fluid. So as you've not had that issue, a further fluid change might help.

Just going to drive it for a bit and see what happens I think. Wallet is pretty damn empty :D

Window regulator I’ll sort shortly and I really want to work out why the PDC isn’t working though!

Had to take the Fox to work this morning because this fucking thing is low on coolant. I don’t seem to be able to own a car that can keep a hold of its fucking coolant!

Didnt want to arse about with it at 0530 - is this the beginning of the notorious E46 era cooling system problems?

Posted

As long as it holds brake fluid then it's all good*

*Sort of.

Do you have one of those pump up pressure tester things to highlight leaks?

Wait till your Boxster needs it's coolant tank changing! That was a 'fun' job on mine.

If it is the expansion tank, I assume I should buy a Hella one for £45 over a generic £15 one?

One of those is a primed grenede and the other is an ancient X5.

There does seem to be the odd gem of an E53 colour combo around. I still think I win though :D

210 mile round trip today - faultless. Coolant level seems to be stable for now ?

Didnt reset the trip before I left so not sure on consumption (shows 20.9 average, up from 20.1 when I left) but the range was at 400 miles when I left with a full tank and it’s now on 398 on my return!

Oh and I really could do with sorting out the faulty PDC - it’s a bastard to park in tight spots! ?

Theres a hellrot red one in at may local garage just now dont think I've seen another red one.

It’s so sad that you can’t seem to buy them in colours any more - the spec list for a new one is depressing.

Is BMW Individual still a thing? Not that I have the £60k for a new X5 never mind the extra.

I think it is I bet it's expensive through. Porsche used to do that paint to sample that cost a fortune but it made some great looking cars. I think they stopped it as it was a fucking nightmare on a production line.
