Is your car an igloo or a sauna ? Heatershite

I've just spent 15 minutes reading about how good the heaters are in cars I've never driven, which belong to people I've never met.

Christ, what am I doing with my life.....

My heater on my truck at work, a proper pile of shite.

The heater works ok, but the fan doesn't.

I can't get any air to the windscreen on my side, if I put a piece of paper on the vent it won't even move.

In damp weather the windscreen and the drivers door are permanently steamed up, I have to have a bit of blue roll on hand to wipe it clear and wind the window down at every junction.

The fan has two positions, off and full blast, both wholly ineffective.

In sunny weather the whole cab is like a greenhouse, it has massive windows which aren't even tinted.

Even if it is snow outside i am being roasted every time the sun shines, usually i am down to just a t shirt in the winter, with the heater turned off.

No aircon either, so horrible.

The vehicle is a three year old Mercedes and has been like that since new.

A horrible place to spend your working week in.

That heater sounds bolloxed.

Surely the ultimate win is heating that starts before you even get out of bed so you can just get in in a t shirt no matter how frosty it is.

As long as you don't need to wear a parka on the way home , because there's not enough 'juice' for heat and motion.

The Corolla heater was shite when we got it. Turns out they can silt up so i tried flushing it out with some descaler type stuff from Screwfix but I didn't leave it in long enough so it's now merely reached tepid.

As it will be getting broken soon to donate it's engine to the MR2 I'm going to ignore it, although I may flush the system through with a dishwasher tablet before i pull it out.

The S4 and MR2 both have excellent heaters. The Locost, not so much.

I started using this lorry when It was eight months old, the previous driver moved roles, because he hated driving it.

It took me months of complaining before it went back for repair under warranty, when it was back it was exactly the same.

We have a new workshop manager now, I will be asking him to chase it up

First check whether the pipes have somehow got ballsed up.

I’m not really arsed about heaters, as under 60mph and over 3 degrees C ambient I’ve got the window open anyway, but my mate’s wife’s old fiesta mk4 with the 1300 Kent engine was blowing hot air around 50 yards after setting off from a cold start, which I found quite remarkable.

Of the current fleet:

Daily lupo is great, demists very quickly without the need for blowers or excessive heat

Nissan elgrand is the same but burns a copious amount of rapeseed oil for the same result. Has a curtain to pull over radiator in winter but is up to temp with half a mile regardless

Merc 190D has the fresh air vents that should be compulsory on all vehicles. Pretty sure the drivers side heater is stuck on cold no matter what you do with the dial. Suits me

Nissan Skyline only blows cold air if the ambient is below 18 degrees C. Turning off the climate control allows as steady wash of warm air from the engine bay to the cabin. Opening windows more than 1/2” above 50mph causes awful buffeting

Astra G DTI never gets up to temp, blowers work ok but considering a piece of cardboard over the rad as the internet seems to say that they are ‘overcooled’ Which I can well believe

Three pages and no one's mentioned the MX-5 and it's excellent blowers? Roof down, and freezing cold outside, but if it's on hot and aimed at the feet it's bloody lovely.

The 93's is pretty good but the cold means it's taking a while for it to get to temperature.

The Prelude warms up quickly and is very hot. If I want to warm up in there I up it one segment from cold.

Forgot the Skoda Estelle.

Heater actually chucked out a decent amount of heat on the third example - after about 30 minutes of driving to get all 11.5 litres of coolant up to temperature.

Thanks fan however just made a huge amount of noise but had very little impact on how much air was actually moving.

Was the only car I couldn't just go out and start 20 minutes before I left for college because the darn thing was so fond of stalling when cold.

My mx5 was the same, would heat up in no time.

Heater in the Datsun is brilliant can actually get too hot , pity it smells like something died on the heater matrix and it starts to dissolve at the merest mention of winter

The C15 has an excellent heater, I love the Citroen labelling showing a hat or a foot so you know where to set it and I'm impressed that the fan works on this one as it didn't on the last two. The Land Rover is not so good, unless you like driving along in an underheated, draughty, damp cave that smells of dog. I miss the old Volvos with their heated seats.
