The sun is shining, I’ve sacked off work, and it’s collection time.

What could possibly be better?

First, because London, a couple of underground’s.

Bye bye sky

An overground train spells the end of the underground section of the journey.

Let’s have a fabric status update:

Ooo look at all the tracks.

Note the cranes in the distance turning what were probably perfectly acceptable garages for chod into houses that rich investors will invest in, but forget to live in. Oops politics.

If you’d turned 90 degrees to the right you’d have seen the rather lovely Victorian cottage my great-grandfather lived in - he was the lock-keeper on the Grosvenor canal. Except they pulled it down about 10 years ago to build dull plastic and glass boxes for foreign speculators not to live in.

Heartbreaking innit.

Still, you can’t blame the ultra- capitalists for being blazing arseholes.

Oh wait! You can!

I know what this is about.

A mixture of genius, stupidity, bravery and insanity.

We're not worthy.

Sadly, I hadn’t even got out of the garden before a split and perished fuel hose stopped play.

With no local garage to call upon, and with SMH needing to get back to work, I’ve had to hang my head and admit defeat before the journey even started.. time to make use of that return train ticket I bought just in case..

SAD FACE. But on the plus side, at least I didn’t die.

Yes, I am more than a little embarrassed. It started and ran fine, we did paperwork, then started it up for FG to leave and this happened.

Pleased it didn't happen en route though!

Dislike.

As you said, at least it didn't happen on your way up the road.

Indeed, it’s all good.

That puddle was just me wetting myself.

I went for a walk around the neighbourhood to take my mind off things, but everyhwere I went just reminded me of what could have been

Like I said, I was more than a little embarrassed by this - although I think my garage can take some of the blame.

It sprung a fuel leak just before the MoT and because this was just before we'd moved into the house and I didn't fancy mucking about with petrol on the pavement outside our flat, I just let the garage sort it out.  So there's a short length of fuel line between the fuel tank and the carb, with an inline fuel filter fitted.  The garage had replaced the section of hose which split before but left the other bit alone - and of course it failed literally 10 miles later.

I had some free time today so went Halfords shopping.

Literally fifteen minutes of work, including finding my tools and figuring out how to bolt the body back on (FG had undone it) we have this.

I took it for a little spin around the town, filled the tank with fresh petrol and the tyres with air (they were low, so keep an eye on that) and unless there's another disaster it is ready for Take Two.

Ahh mate, that’s amazing, thanks so much! I guess my excuses for not attempting take two are running out..

Cools.

It's a happy little off-beat noise, isn't it?  It could only be an air-cooled 2-stroke.

It's not powerful but it is really willing - it really flies up to its 35mph top speed.  Reminds me of my first Citroën GS.

Not a problem, I felt really bad about you wasting your journey.  If you'd bought it off AutoTrader you'd have been really pissed off but I think shiters understand each other pretty well!  It's cost me approximately £7 and half an hour to prep it properly so it really is the least I can do to make up for your train ticket.

The journey will be a bit of an epic so don't feel that you *have* to do it on the bike - although I'd really love to see the resulting post!
