I knew that the 70 year old tyres weren’t going to go far… My word, the explosion scared all the seagulls in Whitstable….

Ee made I laugh!

Hopefully this excitement happened while stationary?

Don’t have the money or means of storing an open body machine like this unfortunately, it is only a half an hour drive away though.

At some point I’m going to need a big bank of batteries for the Argson, likely to cost me as much as the beauty herself…. 6 x 6v deep cycle batteries do not come cheap….

So I’ve been relishing in the little things before I have the big hitter….. I’ve hit on a little snag with my brake light upgrade….. the lights, horn and brake lights are all wired from one battery, 12v via a live fuse and both circuits share an earth…. When I put on the brake lights I’ve got a residual current bleeding through brake light switch and into the lighting system. The headlight comes on very dimly when I put the brake lights on…. Not a big deal but I’d like to figure out how to isolate the two 12v circuits…..

all good fun

if its any help this is what the Ministry did regarding Argson batteries :)

@LightBulbFun previously mentioned i intended to re-register the Harding consort - made first attempt and have received this back. Is there a Harding Owners Club, I couldn't see one listed in the shortlist they sent to me. Any further help would be appreciated!

what did ya send to the DVLA exactly? that would be good to know whats been done already :)

otherwise the "owners club" for Hardings is the ICR the Invalid Carriage register which is someways down the V765/1 list

since you thankfully (or should! I really hope its not been lost LOL) have the buff logbook for FFB550, re-registering it should be piss easy

and id be more then willing help with making sure the V55/5 gets filled out correctly :) (in fact I would prefer that you do run the V55/5 by me once you have filled it out so I can make sure its done correctly, very few are registered correctly, sadly most get done as Tricycles which is all sorts of wrong!)

the process is more or less, get authenticated copies of the buff logbook made, this can be done by any vehicle owners club thats most convenient for you does not have to be the ICR or such

then with these authenticated copies, you fill out a V55/5 and V765, you then take a bunch of pictures of the machine front back and sides showing the registration number, I find diagonal photographs like what you see for TF6405 are good, they will show the front and the side nicely at the same time then take another like it for the rear, and ideally also a couple photos chassis number clearly and then bundle all the documents and photos together and fire it all off to the ICR, Simon then should counter sign it all for a fee, and then it gets sent off to the DVLA :)

obviously do contact Simon first to make sure he is in a position to handle your application first!

Hi I sent a v55 with I think completed correctly i sent a copy of the brown logbook also pictures of the vehicle and a complete v765 will contact ICR didn't send the original logbook I case it got lost many thanks Bob

It’s a bit confusing because you should never wire 12v and 6v in series….. the Argon runs 18v in parallel in low and 36v in  series on high…. So making up 18v battery banks with a 12 and 6v battery flies in the face of all the advice I’ve read….

interesting I cant see what the issue would be with a 12V and 6V in series? after-all, all lead acid batteries are internally just a load of 2V cells strung together :)

so I imagine if the 6V and 12V batteries are of the same amp-hour and all that spec I think it would be alright?  but I am not an expert in this field so it would be interesting to hear why they say not to?

haha almost but not quite, tomorrow 1st of February, REV will have been at University for a whole year!

but since you bring it up, @red5 how are things going with REV? :)  as it has been a year, a status update or such would be nice :)

hopefully things are going well for once? I mean id like to have her back sometime relatively soon! I have many lightbulbs that need collecting, and places to photobomb! LOL

or any sort of ETA so I can try make a plan of things?, I have got a few people asking me if ill be at various events/gatherings and I obviously cant say without knowing when REV will be back

hah funny you should post, I did get a quick update update from Red5 today :) progress is being made and a  thread update will hopefully be made, but things are still very busy over there

I feel for red5 in that regard I know he had one hell of a summer so I was hoping for his sake at least that things would have calmed down a bit! but it does not sound like it

poor @red5 is going to be like the T800 at the end of Terminator 2 "I need a vacation"

but hopefully not missing an arm!

That’s what I thought,  but everything I’ve Red says you should never wire two batteries of different voltages together in series but what’s the difference between 3 x 6v in series and 1 x 12v and 1x 6v in series?…. Can’t quite understand it myself…. Maybe once they have all settled down together into an electrolytic groove they’d be OK…..

laid up in hospital at the moment so I’ve got too much time on my hands 😂😂😂

Batteries are made of individual cells, hence the proper name being a 'battery of cells'. They don't give a fuck how you put them in series.

Theoretically, the 1.5v batteries we use should be called cells, as it's a single, not multiple. A PP3 can be called a battery, as it is made up of 6 individual 1.5v cells.

It’s the little things……

They eat up a good chunk of time and it all adds up! It's quite embarrassing how much time this little lamp has eaten, then even worse the time taken to install. Firstly power was not making it through switch contacts so that was taken apart, given a good going through, new rivets made to put the switch back together as original. Soldering new appropriate connectors onto the wires which were ordered to match the wiring diagram and then just a case of fitting? No. No light so meter back out, 12.6V all the way through the circuit. Take bulb out, test, fine. Replace bulb, flick switch, no light, voltage lost. Repeat all of the above until feeling like I'd lost the plot, over and over. Eventually discover the fuse is shonky, it was allowing voltage through but as soon as a load was applied it would lose contact. I'm need to try to get hold of some Lucas 17, 25 continuous but they seem fair scarce these days. At present it's behaving itself but I'll not be venturing out after dark until I have found replacements.

not sure if your looking for 25A or 35A lucas fuses? since 17.5A is the continuous rating of a 35A fuse, but you give a 25A blow rating

so heres links to both :)

@AdgeCutlerdid you need to re-upload it, I was sure I watched it yesterday!

Not being familiar with the portable telecommunications device used, I filmed it in portrait. Once I realised I could not live with it and had to delete it. Another attempt was made today, this time in landscape.

Of course you are correct Dez. I got thrown off the scent as the wiring diagram shows 2x25Amp fuses in the fuse box and an inline 35Amp, when I glanced down at the fuse box I saw this.

I am actually on the trail of some genuine period Lucas fuses and a lid for the fuse box but thanks for the links.

In case you wind up looking for a fuse box replacement that doesn't have horribly tarnished terminals, they're not horrifically expensive.
