Scrappage

Just seen an ad by Hyundai.  They have introduced a Scrappage scheme for 2011 cars and older if you buy one of their new cars.  2011 -  that's nearly new!

Obviously Hyundias are at end of life within 7 years, I bet having that as their advertising campaign would do wonders* for residual values and new sales.

Kind of flys in the face of the saving the planet ethos that everyone's supposed to be buying into though. Binning a complicated machine at seven years old and making a new one

Only the government scheme claimed environmental benefits?

I saw this today. Is it where they say scrappage and then show one or two of their new models?

When I saw it whilst tootling past I immediately thought ''they're scrapping their new cars"? Like I'd missed some national news on a vw type emissions scandal but with Hyundai... And then I thought about it. It's a good ad... Seriously...

It never did. A few car makers/dealer groups have attempted "scrappage schemes" in recent years, it's just the discount you'd get if you haggled.

All the new car dealers in our town have been scrapped ........

Land that the shitest ford dealer sat on was worth millions.

Suzuki dealer was a lying scheming twat

Vauxhall? Well i once got them to price match helfirds on brake pads a discs for a cavalier. And I'd got Halfords to price match a motor factors in Skem. When i got a Vauxhall trade club card they refused to accept it.

Rover? Well enough said.

Fiat ? it was a tiny place.

The local demographic is either a Honda jizz, a ronge raver evogue or a Bmw 140M

Amd you'd have to go to Liverpool for them.

Isn't it just part exchange dressed up? If they get in a 7yo valuable car are they going to scrap it. Probably they will sell back into the trade.

Depends - Ford said they’d scrap them all when they did it a few months ago.

As has been pointed out elsewhere seems crazy.

Only last week my garage owning pal had a punter who wanted a second hand alternator fitted to a Hyundai Santa Fe which if I remember rightly was on an 11 plate, it’s a 5 hour engine out job normally but my ever resourceful pal managed to do it without taking the engine out but it was an awful very involved job. Hateful piles of crap mostly bought by giffers and deserve scrapping early....

I wouldn't be so anti bridging my heaps if I didn't have to take possession of a new car in exchange.

When will classic car dealers start a scrappage scheme 'we'll happily weigh in your newfangled shit if you buy an old Jaaaag from us'?

That's a bit strong, I have an i30 and it is ok for what it is.. As is said on other threads on this site, modern cars are just a collection of other brands bolted together and sold as one.. Since the 70's cars have all been the same some bad some good but every 'manufacturer' has them..

Scrapage is just a pseudo discount dressed in cheap jogging bottoms..

The later Santa Fe’s are a decent off roader. Rugged as fuck underneath, a lot of the travellers have them.
