So about a week ago there was an advert in the NZ Herald asking if anyone wanted their car wrapped for Venom Energy Drink (part of the Monster group I believe)

The wrap would be free and they would pay $500 a week for as long as you kept it on.

So as a joke I replied that they could wrap this ----

Sweet, at least it's not the "Mother" energy drink - who on earth thought that was a good name!

Actually do they want to expand to the UK they could wrap my transit!!

Most likely the whole thing is a scam but we'll see, if someone wraps the car and I get no money I don't care

Just have to watch out for the "here's a big cheque, take your $500 and wire the rest to the wrap company" I'm not that daft!!

It's a scam... the domain name for absent website is registered in US in April 2018, by a registrant with a telephone number reported on scam-busting websites... hopefully you didn't provide them with much in the way of sensitive or useful personal information!

Some more info. here:

Shame though. It would have been neat to see the car all wrapped up in the promotional material! "Small car, but masses of energy" etc. etc.

Yup definitely a scam Got the email saying cheque will arrive with payment insurance and artist fee, I should cash then pay artist

Hopefully will get cheque and post it here

What does the NZ Herald say about it ?

Posted

I will be interested to see it. A cheque from a foreign bank would normally be cleared before paid out, and if a local bank, the bank will be VERY interested.

Haven't contacted them, but may next week

So cash the cheque, when the artist turns up deny all knowledge. The cheque will obviously bounce so you've lost nothing but they've wasted their time.

That's a great stamp!

It is and it cost them 1pound 45pence!

ok to continue

I have received a cheque and badly worded letter from the UK (although all the previous email stuff was US)

the cheque is from Barclays and drawn on the Haringey Mencap account, I'm assuming that either a chequebook has been stolen or forged

Have contacted MENCAP, and NZ Herald so far, trying to contact Barclays and the rozzers (NZ and UK)

here she be!

Eee by gum I love a good scam. Especially when masterminded by an illiterate cretin. And oh, the irony of that stamp!

Very nice of Haringey Mencap to sponsor some Kiwi chod.

Don’t banks charge you if you pay in a cheque that bounces? Plus I would worry about the source - could be accused of money laundering / general criminality which although you could disprove, could be hassle

I await the result, should be interesting !\

I last received a cheque of that size from UK about 15 years ago. It was paid into my account. but the bank advised that proceeds would not be available for a week or two. I hope they still do that.  :-D
