Whose up for going to the car auctions at Bawtry on a Friday evening for some prime shit spotting/buying?

Posted

Most Scottish sounding place name ever.

Bawtry the other side of worksop? Are they still going - I thought they closed at the same time as Chesterfield Car Auctions as they were run by the same people.

The days of that being a shit paradise are overI think. They’re in Rother Ham now under the pretentious ‘Motor Auction Group’ name even tho there’s only one. The stuff I bought there 1998-2004.

I've just had a look on the website at there's not a sniff of anything shit, its all 60 plate Astra's.

Funnily enough there's a car auction just round the corner from me in... Wakefield!

Tbh I would guess it's all relatively new stuff as you don't see anything interesting on the transports.

Couldn’t beat a Friday night at the Lockoford Lane Auctions in chesterfield. Long gone are those halcyon days!

Was it Wedsneday lunchtime as well?

The one in Morley used to be ok, I haven't been there (or know if it's still going) for a decade or so though.

That daft old fart of an auctioneer, taking bids from the wall in that Savilesque accent when there were three blokes and a dog in the hall.

Four fifteh bid

I gave up in the end - you couldn't buy anything from him. Used to do Bawtreh as well. I bet Bawtry locals are glad that's all ended. Used to be wall to wall gypos and rigger booted Worksop drones, various shit cars moored up by the Esso station, the owners leaning against the wall like pimps.

That's about the only interesting thing in there.

Looking at the entire catalogue, it consists almost entirely of cast-offs from Arnold Clark, thecarpeople, various car financers, and a Harley-Davidson dealership.

You do know that that’s where car auction stock comes from?

Main dealer cast offs are 10000000x better buys than private entries or small trader entries anyway - the latter two are definitely fucked as opposed to probably.

Unfortunately I would imagine that the scrappy gets the real shite from a lot of main dealers now with auction fees ever increasing - you do see some odd stuff sometimes though

Used to regularly see cars knocked down as sold at Chesterfield then they would go through the ring again towards the end of the sale...

That described Bawtry auctions to a T though! Did you ever go to the general sale (household goods and tat) there?

Newark, thurs afternoon auctions have got your name on it. in fact mine, I'm down there today Rover 216 Coupe going thru

Used to be a car auction in Birmingham that had loads of shit going through, might have been off Evesham Road. There was always a police Hiab crew about outside lifting illegally parked vehicles to keep the road clear.

I bet WBAC stuff can be utter shit these days

Carr Mill in St. Helens was prime shite.

A lot of the cars had to be pushed through.

Newark, Motordepot stuff a pile of crap, other stuff pretty much OK, I've had 30+ cars from there over the 4 years I've been working up here, luckily not had a shite one yet, few needed a couple of quid thrown at them but not much more

Sounds like Birmingham Car Auctions in Moseley Road.

Auction fodder has changed in terms of quality* since the days of knackered Sierras and Granadas, but probably not in condition or age. I believe that Lord Sterling of this parish also has knowledge of them :)

That could well have been them.

Yes, my point is just that it's not to our taste how Cannock is.

Most of Cannock’s stuff will be from main dealers too, they’re probably just cheaper on fees so you get the scrap fodder / prime autoshite

Indemnity on bikes used to be a fortune, dread to think how much it is now.
