Today, the Blingo registered an objection to its long sojourn.  Cruising down the M5 on the way (ironically) to Spanners' place, it started chucking steam out the back and the temp gauge (yes, it has one!) began rising alarmingly.  

Swift exit to ASDA off gate 2; check under the bonnet and let things cool down.  No mayonnaise in the filler, so it's not OMGHGF, thank feck.  Much evidence of coolant escape at the back of the block, though.  Big pool of WET underneath, too.

TL;DR... looks like the pipe between the thermostat and the water pump has fractured.  Recovered home, car awaits attention - again! 😁

As so it turned out to be, if you know what you're doing.  

A clip had failed and a hose had popped off.  This was rectified, 50/50 antifreeze reinstalled, the whole shebang properly pressure-tested and run up to operating temps.

The mobile mech recommended by @Pieman was excellent.  VERDICT: WOULD USE AGAIN.

Also from the files of THAT WENT BETTER THAN EXPECTED!...

Since being exiled from the garage by tonnes of building/DIY crap, the Dyane has been outside under a (decent) cover.  Not normally a problem, but we've had a lot of weather recently and I was worried about damp/leaks/etc.  Checked it today and all seems well.

Long story, which involves a slightly unhinged Irishman of fond acquaintance who's restoring one, if all goes well in time for us to circumnavigate France in it come September.  Mmmmmm.... aserati, etc.

Nice run for the Blingo, hopefully with greater success than last time.

The Blingo's showing the airbag light and bleeping at me.  Nothing's exploded in my face yet (fnarr, etc.) so hopefully it's just my fat arse that's dislodged the connector under the seat.

Instead of that, I woke this up...

Gave it some exercise, then went and did some more racer prep for Pembrey in a couple of weeks...

Naturally, it rained - so the Dyane's rear brakes will have to wait until tomorrow.

Since it's been sitting since September (!) I had to take the fuel line off the carb and prime the pump.  I can still taste Esso 98 now.

Yesterday afternoon, we took a break from racer prep to address the Dyane's ongoing rear brake issues.  

 Fortunately, this was undertaken by someone who knows what he's doing, with the 'idiot apprentice' watching, learning and passing tools where needed...
